James Blunt - Monsters - REACTION!! (Emotional) 

In October of 2019, it was discovered that James Blunt's father had stage 4 kidney failure, and no appropriate donor could be found for a transplant. James wrote this song in November, and then got together in December with his father and folks from his recording studio to record it while singing it to his father for the first time (yes, that's him in the video). You can see the emotion in his eyes and hear it in his voice. His studio guys wanted to apply some modifications to the recording, but James insisted that the emotions mattered. The video was released on January 7, 2020. I first saw it one week later, and immediately had to learn the chords so I could sing it, which I did for the first time during the first week of February. It was a huge news story in Great Britain, and a distant cousin heard about the situation. The cousin got tested, and was an appropriate donor. The transplant took place on January 29, 2020, and James' father is still alive and apparently doing fairly well. That shows you the power of social media. Probably the best known James Blunt song before this was "Your Beautiful," which came out in 2008 or 2009. It is quite good, but not as emotional as this.

My dads still alive and only 70 but he’s recently been put in a nursing home due to being immobile from falls and it’s up to him to work on being able to move again. Knowing he could lose his house and be stuck there is breaking me and this song had me on the floor crying yesterday.

It is a beautiful song - a wonderful tribute to his dad who was diagnosed with advanced cancer. He has since received a transplant and, I believe, is doing well. Check out his song "You're Beautiful" - probably his best-known song - and absolutely gorgeous. His unique voice adds so much to the emotion of his tracks.

This is James’ father and it was the first time he heard his son’s song about him at a time when they thought there was no hope. A son returning the love and protection that his father gave him through his life and now chasing his father’s monsters away. A beautiful, emotional and heart wrenching song. As a result of this video a kidney donor was found and his father received a successful transplant which was wonderful.
