wonderful description, and i like that you got the song, , you hit the nail on the head. there is no reaction to do to song, as it will affect everyone different, in there own personal way with as you said family parents, relationship. you said enough and stopped, that shows real character on your behalf good job

Background - Charles Blunt (yes, that is James's father in the video) was close to dying from Stage 4 kidney disease (not cancer). He had already given a kidney and now needed one, and no compatible donors could be found. James wrote this as a tribute, and possibly with an eye to drum up a donor. I have heard variously that this was the first time Charles had heard the song, or that it was privately sung before the recording. Afterwards, the attention developed a donor, also named Charles Blunt who was a distant cousin (I have also heard he is Australian), and they were compatible. The transplant was done and did very well. I tries searching recently for whether Charles still thrives and could find nothing negative, so I guess no news is good news. You hear several times in the recording where James's voice is breaking and there are strains; the record company wanted to autotune but Ja,es fought against it, preferring to keep the rawness in the imprfections.

You need to watch it again and not look away (I totally get why you have to) but you miss some very emotional frames such as between first and second verse, you see him close his eyes chocking back a sob, when the dad takes his hand off his arm and James turns and looks his father in the eyes as he says “we’re just two grown men saying goodbye “, when he says he’s going to make him proud and his father is looking into his face and then at the end the father pats James’ arm again.
