James Bond 007 | EVERY SKI CHASE 

I know what you mean there. Spy & FYEO were scored with contemporary music by Marvin Hamlisch & Tom Conti respectively & while ok, they don't underline the action as well as the others who were scored by John Barry. His orchestral style suits the scenes very well.

Disco Bond 🕺

According to the commentary on the Spy Who Loved Me disc, the moviegoers in the British theaters cheered when they saw the Union Jack flag. You knew it was gonna be a good movie if this was your opening.

I agree. What they thought with that music in this scene from For Your Eyes only though.. terrible, takes away ANY suspense or coolness.

Runaway is just superb isn’t it? Funky, fun and hard hitting, yet still maintaining the class of Bond at its core. Compliments the sequence wonderfully.

Wasn't there also a third ski chase where 007 chased Blofeld after the destruction of his base of operations in the alps? That ended with Blofeld getting caught on a tree limb hanging across the bobsled track.

@@jesseowenvillamor6348 absolutely, and not only when James Bond was skiing, but also when he was driving a car or in a car, or on board of the flying Flying saucer when the film framerate was increased. I was referring to the stunts, which were real, albeit not performed by the James Bond actors. The famous sky/ para jump, all skiing scenes done by Bogners team, the motor bike chase in the bob sled track, during which a stuntman was killed and countless others .... amazing stunts.

The ski jump itself was actually filmed in the very remote and newly created Auyittuq National Park (Eskimo language word) on the Canadian Arctic Island of Baffin, near Greenland. I have no idea why they filmed it there because there are just as many big cliffs in the Alps where the rest of the ski scene was filmed, however there was a famous Canadian whiskey advert running in international magazines of the time which featured this region and specifically Mt Asgard, which had recently been explored by expert mountain climbers and had been featured in climbing publications, so maybe this is how it all came to be. The Gov't agency of Parks Canada was given credit in the film's end credits with assisting with the jump, done by an expert skier.

Roger cornered the market with the best stunts by a very big margin.

It's definitely one of those cinematic moments I'd love to be able to go back and sit in a crowded cinema on opening night to watch.

What a let down there was no skiing on SPECTRE. I mean, they were in the frikkin' Austrian alps and no ski sequence (unless you count the silly scene of the plane sliding on the slope).

Which movie was that? Bond skis in front of the train and the villain skis right into the fan. I've looked at all the Bond ski scenes I could find, but I can't find that scene.

@@99Bubbles99 OHMSS. Not a train, but a road clearing snow blower. I recall seeing that scene in the theater when it first came out...

@@MMitchellMarmel -- That's not what I remember. The viewer sees the front of the train with the huge fan coming closer, "Bond" (or whoever) skiing right in front of it and the follower going into it. Both skiing left to right. No exit tubes on the blower, guts etc. just splattered about. DEFINITELY seeing the front of the train, and I'm pretty sure it was in a village rather than out in the sticks somewhere.

@@99Bubbles99 I recall that scene, but it was in the book itself. That Ian Fleming was one helluva storyteller! I visualized the scene precisely as you described as I read the book back then... :)

Because the academy awards is a bit of a popularity contest with no consideration for the amazing things that the actors cannot do! I mean that’s just my opinion but it’s rather clear looking at it how biased it tends to be.

I always look away at that scene but just seen it now omg blood and lumps coming out of the machine and his scream as he was being shredded.

Imagine having to ski under a fellow henchman's body parts right after seeing him killed. I'm surprised some of them weren't taken out by their own vomiting.

@@DokkaChapman omg yes it looked like they were getting covered in him it shocked my husband he said he would done the same scream going into that thing and yes I think I would of been vomiting and probably screaming as I went through the blood and meat.

FYEO would have benefitted from a John Barry score. Tom Conti's music doesn't create the same suspense.

They likely can't shoot straight because they're also trying to keep their balance while moving at downhill speed, so they're always off mark as a result, missing Bond by that much. Makes for an intense chase, though, at the same time, I have to wonder if it's intentional since the Bond books and movies are written tongue in cheek most of the time, some to parody.

There’s a lot of day for night shots that are rather obvious now, but there’s a strange beauty to them all the same. It’s not too out of place compared with the awful rear projection, which I also love regardless.

He was likely too busy playing golf in the Bahama’s to care. Rest In Peace Sir Sean Connery.

It's my favorite.

I love the idea that snowboarding was so much in its infancy at that point that they decided to go the "omg, Bond is surfing the snow!" route lol. In fact that scene may have helped legitimise the pastime as it was looked down on by skiers for quite a while.

He has a lot of experience skiing. As a teenager he went to a boarding school in Switzerland where he went skiing regularly.

In their defense, it's hard enough to hit a moving target. Adding the speed of a skier downhill AND concentrating on your own balance to the mix? You're gonna have a hard time hitting said target.
