This a video of "Boobie" Miles a running back for the Odessa Panthers who was a Flashy strong, and fast . He never got the chance to play in the Nfl due to a knee injury his senior year..
Had a running back on my high school team that could score whenever he wanted to.. Incredible athlete...He's now homeless and addicted to drugs...Study hard know matter how good an athlete you are...have a plan b.
He didnt look like a nfl player. Plus anyone can in high school with the talent they young kids have lmao not everyone in highschool or college nfl material or hall of fame worthy. It’s different in the big leauge
@@godisgreat5141 I've got experience in recruiting and Miles was a great power back but lacked speed. Looked like 4.8-5.0 40 and he wouldn't have played in the NFL. Maybe a position change because he had football sense and talent. Defense possibly? Definitely no guarantee of the NFL looking at HS tape so you're full of shit
The fact that some of us felt boobie’s crying scene because it’s relatable, is the saddest part about this story. Myself included, but we’re far more than just athletes #salute
I felt really sad at that part, for many sports is the ticket out. They did portray him as too prideful. Read the book and the section on dallas carter
They always fabricate a little in movies even true stories. I mean they didn't even go to the State Championship that year they lost in the semifinals but that wouldn't have made as good of a story as losing the Championship.
@@davidhoward1254 yeah i read the book. It was raining and not much offensive game. The book was an awesome read, reminded me of high school football so much
@@hollywooddre5 are you quoting the film or were you physically in or around the Permian Panthers program in 1988?? Not being a smartass either....I'd really like to know who the featured back REALLY was!!
@@emmettredding1 I'm going by the film's director, players, interviews, not just the movies extra footage, and of the people in Odessa. Everything ran off of Boobie. You have to remember football back then was a ground game. The faster and stronger back that could hold on to football get yardage and score, he was the man. Ivly wanted that position but he didn't prove up to get it until Boobie got hurt and they needed him for his power to get that extra yard which Kober didn't have. He still had fumbling issues.
@@zoneworldentertainment8962 Texas high school football is more important than the nfl down there. You see in some of the highlights they in a Cowboy stadium.
Smh you never know how many superstars became falling stars my brother was top pitcher in region, top recruits country got his girl pregnant, got into a fight broke his shoulder Royals still gave him a ticket spring training never went, he's in federal prison now smh
I was at the Middleton unit in Abilene in 2013 and spoke to him. Needless to say being locked up was not how either of us wanted our lives to turn out. He was very friendly and upbeat. Nice guy. I hope he does well after serving his time.
There's lots kids with an amazing talent in lot sports that almost can see light but for some reason the tunnel just never ended salute my boys the ride was fun I hope u lived those moment where only in ur heart they still playing
He was a awesome running back he reminds me of Hershel Walker when he played for the Dallas Cowboys mixed with John Riggings and Tony Dorsett because of the speed and great spin moves. He would have been a candidate for the Hiesman just like he wanted and would have played in the NFL and been a pro bowler. It really is a shame he got such a bad injury.
Speed is only one aspect of a running back. Frank gore doesn't have speed, and he is about to surpass 10,000 yards. This man had moves, and hitting power. It might've stunted his career in some ways, but obviously he found ways to overcome those injuries and become statistically one of the greatest backs of all-time. Two huge underrated traits of Gore is his ability to get low and his ability to pass block. I've seen him pancake d-lineman and linebackers throughout the years
Back om his day, fast sisnt matter much, but quick feet always matter. Boobie wouldn't have been "great" at the next level. He didn't have start/stop feet. Frank Gore had some sweet feet that allowed him to maneuver through the line into the second level.
Boobie was the real deal. The first few clips are vs the 1987 plano wildcats who finished the year as espn national champions. He is shredding that line even with some questionable blocking.
I remember watching him while i was stationed at Dyess....The girl i was dating went to Abilene HS so i was very familiar with that district!...He reminded me of Eric Dickerson being tall for a rb with that upright running style!...I still remember reading about him blowing out his knee before his Sr. yr in the Abilene newspaper! I was at the Abilene-Permian game his SR yr when he tried to come back but you could tell he wasn't the same back anymore!!...
Thats the type of shit they throw into the movie just to make it better. To make it look like thats why Boobie got injured lol.. The same way they made Dallas Carter into a dirty playing villain team. When in reality people say they werent like that at all. They were just good
+Josh Potts I wouldn't say 100 times better. Boobie was just as big and fast.... maybe not as strong. another note: Marcus Dupree never played against high school teams as tough as Mojo does.
+Ryan Pittman Dupree went on to college and ran like that against the Big 8. He was much better than Miles. Miles was a good back. Just not on Dupree's level.
Ryan Pittman Boobie wasn't near as fast. Marcus Dupree was bigger, and so much faster. Marcus had more than quadruple the stats that Boobie ever put up even before his injury. Boobie was an amazing talent, but Marcus Dupree was the greatest talent in the history of the University of O.U. Marcus Dupree was so much faster than Boobie. Marcus was the greatest High school running back of all time
dustin West Correct! I love Boobie Miles, but he didn't even have breakaway speed. High School always managed to run him down, and catch him even when he had a huge lead on them, and was already way out in front of them. Marcus Dupree was 6-3 230lbs and was clocked running a 4.29 40 yard dash. and a 9.5 on the 100. Marcus left everyone in the dust
Damn, look how big he was compared to everyone else on the field. Coulda played LB. Crying shame what happened. We had a kid like that in Cameron - Traion Smith.
he actually wasnt even all that big lol. he was on the taller side but i dont even think he was 190lb. those big ass shoulder pads made him look a lot bigger
His injury wouldn't have been so bad, had he not tried to come back too soon. He wasn't patient and he lost everything because of it. Tragic story of sort, he also wasn't disciplined. The difference between most 3/4 Star Talent and 5 Star Talent is the "Discipline to get better". Look at Drew Brees, he was not considered 4 Star talent and UT passed on him. He goes to Purdue and breaks every Purdue passing record ever, and put a hurt on the Big 10 records also. A lot good QB's played at Purdue and the Big Ten. He is of course still tearing it up in the NFL. He is a disciplined and tough young man.
Isufu - Boobie had super potential… hence the dozens of major D1 offers. He simply would've never gotten past college or through college because of his attitude. Athletically, he was very good. Huge upside! Naturally, one of the better RB's in Texas history. As soon as he touched a weight room, it (his potential) would've exploded!
Boobie wasn't disciplined and he was impatient, which is why he lost out. He wouldn't do the weight work that would have made him stronger, less prone to injury and likely a better back than Marcus. Marcus wasn't that disciplined either, but he was bigger to start, which helps prevent injuries. Boobie never should have come back during his senior season. He could have excelled had he not "re-injured his knee the second time.
I'd just like to say to always have a very worthwhile back up plan. If you don't have sports, you have education and if that doesn't work you have plenty of jobs that offer technical training. It is a shame such a great player had his career ended so early. Don't rely all on one thing especially sports, anything could happen.
He was a real legend the movie did no justice for him,he was the real beast mode I saw for myself its just unfortunate his high-school career was cut short! Salute from the whole Permian Basin!
Maybe the greatest spin move of all time and "North-South" runner of all time..right up there with Tx high school greats like Robert Strait, Eric Dickerson, and Earl Campbell, and Kenneth Davis.
I'm a fan but no one is Walter Payton. How can you compare on of bbc tge greatest backs ever who also threw several touchdown passes and was the 3rd quarterback and backup punter to someone who haven't even finished a full HS career. Bo Jackson was Walter Payton and Earl Campbell combined.
Bo is definitely the most gifted athlete to ever walk this earth. Now, I don't know if I'd say he's the best running back ever. I'd give the edge to Marcus Dupree.
I swear I'm not hating but I was a fullback and D End back in high school and my highlights blow these out the water and I was only good enough to go to Jackson State for 4 years. The school Deion Sanders is coaching right now who never heard of the school
Odessa permian was perineal tx power house 19 state championships. In the 90s they broke the school population in half and ended there dominance. If you would have gone a tx powerhouse you would have gotten the hype. I know backups that got d1 offers from powerhouse hs here in TX.
the way he breaks tackles, his vision, and his speed are all exceptional... his blockers dont even do that good of a job and he was too good for high school ball at that time and there was some real talent at that time.... if he went to college he would have good blockers and his skills would just amplify... trust me boobie was a special player
Boobie Miles could have been the one the greats if he didn't get injured. Another man come to mind as well. Markus Dupree had the size strength and speed to have been one of great rbs of all time.
He had so-so speed, but he had great power, balance, and cutback ability. Speed is extremely overrated for a RB unless you're a 180lb scatback. He was already 200lbs going into his senior year, and that was big for a HS RB in those days. He could have easily held another 20lbs and not lost any speed. He was one of the most highly recruited backs in the nation going into his senior year.
That's crazy I saw the movie and figured it was a fictional character in a fictional movie and looked up his name on RU-vid and now I'm bummed out realizing that story was real
If Bobbie Miles would have been a player in today's era he would have been still good based on his cuts and and his ability to find open field. Reminds me of LeSean McCoy and Levon Bell.
“... only thing I gotta do is show up. Probably getting exceptional grades in case football don’t workout is is a far second but if I just keep showing up it should all work out”.... director’s cut
Texas High School Football is what it is.But a California High School had The longest winning streak in the U.S.A. That's De La Salle High School at 167 game's in a row.
Raymond Rebaya that’s a great program no doubt and keeps pushing nfl talent but Odessa did it with what that lil cow town had to offer no recruit no nothing in the middle of know where
Omarsito Carrillo Theere are about 2 or 3 California teams ranked above the #1 Texas team. I live in Florida but it's just crazy how people from Texas don't realize that Teams like MD played 8 top 25 teams and the closest a team came to beating them was by 2-3 TDS and that was the #2 school at the time. Show me a Texas team that played 8 nationally ranked teams and never trailed at Halftime. No team in Texas can beat IMG or Miami Central. Currently there are 6 California teams in the top 25. You brag about beating DLS they haven't been relevant since MJD era everybody who actually watches Highschool football knows that.
y'all must not have ever played. and apparently never seen real talent. ever hear of West Rome High? check out All The Running backs from '80-84. then go back to'78 and watch Kinnebrew.
Louis Fite out of Waco High is the best running back I've seen. Boobie was a big back with loads of talent as well who would have been a decent college running back
