I loved this song the second I heard it in 1967, and nothing's changed since. What a go Julia for doing this for showing others this piece and how to play it!
Also I have a book "Jerry Jemmott Blues and R&B Techniques", also with a cd. Very underrated player on so many classic songs....I absolutely love how you keep paying tribute to these Bass players, who are and were the Foundation Bedrock of Funkadelic Funkatude!
I played bass in a "Motown" band when that music was in its heyday. (Yes, I'm that old.) Though I was primarily a guitar player, I loved what the bass could do and how expressive it could be. Love this video!
I've played a few instruments since a young age. Cold Sweat made me appreciate the bass that much that I started learning it and made it the main instrument I play and will play into my older years. Thanks Julia for this video.
MERCY!!! aaaahhhh!!!!... (James Brown scream... LOL) That is a great workout. Oh! I get to play bass through two amplifiers. My entire rig is Peavy Vintage! I get there 90 minutes early and I can't wait to see if the early crew recognizes this at all... Oh gosh... a day and a half to do this. How fun! Thanks!! Now a gift in the offering plate!
"Pee Wee!"...I have a book "The Funkmasters, the Great James Brown Rhythm Sections 1960-1973" that has 2 cds also. It might be out of print now, but if you can get it, it's a great workout. Discipline within the Groove.... Thank you, Hofer! Yow yow!
Hi Julia: Thank you for your new video, always very interesting and very good for learning to play new grooves. I have played this bass line with you and there comes a moment when you can't stop playing, it's very fun and the feeling of this groove also doesn't stop dancing while you play it. I'm happy
These are always so useful and entertaining. Staying in the groove may be harder than any flashy slap bass gymnastics. Lee Sklar on Billy Cobham's Stratus is a marathon.
I love your facial expressions as you get into the groove on the music. I like to following along with the music along the bottom of the video. Great insight into the structure of the bass line.
Good choice! I´ve listened to this song many many times, and i can imagine it being difficult to maintain the groove under a long period of time, with all the subtle nuances to keep it interesting and lively. James Brown was a perfectionist, and did not allow a single mistake in his performances.
There it is!!! I really don't think so, but I'd like to wish that it was my comment three days ago about Cold Sweat, that it should be in your top 5 JB basslines, that made you do this special about... Yes! Cold Sweat!!
I just watched your top 5 Geddy Lee bass lines. From 2 years ago. If you haven't already heard it you must check out his solo album "My Favorite Headache" being his solo album it is very heavily bass oriented, literally right from the get go.
