The hardest working man in show business was the freaking best. I would have loved to seen him in concert. Bro, go on RU-vid and look up James Brown on the TAMI Show. It’s from around 1965. You’ll dig it. He stole the show!!! Thanks for sharing…
I was fortunate enough to see James Brown live, in Nashville Tennessee, in 1966. What a showman!!! We were dancing in the aisles and in our seats, like nothing I've seen since.
Thanks for your reaction--love James Brown. Please check out his performance of "It's A Man's Man's World" as a duet with Luciano Pavarotti--it is epic!
I'm writing this before you finish. You said, "I felt something". Actually twice you did before you restarted the vid. And I'm sitting here thinking before you even restart it, "Oh, you ain't felt it yet..."
I remember moving to L.A. from So.IL as a little kid in the late sixties and had only heard folk, country, and a few pop songs. I don't remember if it was KHJ or KGFJ, but there were these black people screaming like they were in pain. I was dumbfounded but learned to like a lot of Soul and R&B. James Brown is one of those iconic artists that first made a big impression on me.
James Brown is a Legend. I strongly suggest you give Cakra Khan a listen. He covers this song (and, in my opinion, does credit to the cover). Is he James Brown? No. The stage presence and performance oozes from James Brown. Cakra is in front of a Mic singing his ass off. The audience matters as does the performance. In so far as Cakra goes listen to Anyone (warning around the 2:39 second mark of the original, language is explicit (for about a second)) a cover of Demi Levato's tune. His cover of this (Man's Man's Man's Man's World). His Cover of Etta James "I'd Rather Go Blind". His cover of Iris (with orchestration) by the Goo Goo Dolls. There are others too. Now in so far as this piece of perfection goes how can you possible critique this. You can't. The original is the original and when that's done by a Legendary Icon take a wild guess what you get. Great reaction as always. Take care all.
mike, would this have been cancelled today? “This is a man’s world” i could only see the feminists and politically correct try and cancel this brilliant man today for a song like this. lol
