James Brown on Letterman `82 (IMPROVED AUDIO)

The Godfather of Soul makes an appearance on the old "Late Night with David Letterman" on July 12, 1982. This is the best musical TV performance I've ever seen. This night Paul Shaffer and the fellas proved they really were The World's Most Dangerous Band!
This was the first piece of video I ever digitized. On the original upload I took the audio straight off the old VHS tape. On this one I've boosted the volume and added a light "stereo" effect to (hopefully) make it sound better across all devices.
This is the property of NBC, of course. I make no ownership claims to this fine video at all.
Master of Funk: James Brown
Talk Master: David Letterman
Band: World's Most Dangerous Band

St. Clair Pinckney (saxophone) and Hollie Farris (trumpet) are from James' band, the Shaffer band didn't have horns. Pinckney was with Brown from 1962 to his death (1999), which is probably the longest single stretch anyone had in the band. He played on the legendary "Live At The Apollo" album, and all the greatness that followed.

Undeniable Godfather of Soul, Funk and Prince's muse...hey *squeals* !!! See & hear echos of Jame's 60's - 70's funk style and showmanship from Prince's first record onward...

Letterman truly had a second to none set of musicians, look at Hiram Bullock immediately noting "damn, did we miss a stop?" and immediately watching the signs from the horn players who direct them to stop. What a wonderful segment!

This was James Brown at his best and he was almost 50 years old in '82. I never got to see him live even though he came through my city near Toronto Canada several times. However I did rent my Yamaha DX7 keyboard to the band one time... he didn't sign it or anything... but he may have sweated over it though.

I saw James Brown twice in the early 90s when he’d just come out of prison (he was still doing the splits). Absolutely amazing. Best live show I’ve ever seen- and I’ve seen Prince who came a distant second place
