Okay but, even divorced from the James Charles Factor the apology video thing is such a bizarre challenge??? It is never made clear to the contestants if it being judged as a performance mocking apology video cliches (as Benny interpreted it) or as an actual effective apology.
Kind of both, in the way I perceive it. James very much frames apologies as a bothersome chore, so in a sense, they're both intended to be "genuine" (as in, believable) while still being flippant to the actual scandal at hand.
Omg... if I were Ashley, and James kept saying that I should have explained the connection between taking off my makeup and being vulnerable, I would have said "It was IMPLIED, James!" Then again I'd say a lot of things that would get me kicked off the show 😂
yeah i dont really know much about her but she’s given me truscum vibes for sure. i think i also have some sort of internalized transphobia towards transgirls that give bitchy sorority vibes, but thats probably just because im lowkey jealous of other transgirls with more confidence than me 😭
I think the biggest flaw with this show is that being an “influencer” or a creator like this is often being done on their own time to an extent. Yes, there are deadlines when you’re self employed in a sense but you do get that freedom of working on your own schedule. Why would you be in these scenarios where you have to rush all of your content in the span of an hour or few. It just doesn’t feel genuine at all
It's also incredibly telling of James' character that he treats apologies for "minor scandals" as bothersome chores. Especially given the context of his past behaviour.
right!! like the criticism they give makes no sense cause like if they had more time im sure they wouldve done that? like i know its a challenge but you cant expect ashely to pour her whole life story with such little time in the challenge
As much of a hot mess as Kailin is, I will say there’s something endearing about her. And she’s the only one (at least that we saw) that actually referenced the other person’s channel like a normal collab would.
No bc writing a thousand pages of scrapped notes on a timed thing and running out of time to actually do it is so real istg I did that for my GED essay lol
i remember being uncomfortable with this when it came out but the way this aged is just *chefs kiss* full circle moment. James literally came out and said he’s, in a way, never genuinely apologized for anything or felt bad for anything he’s done wrong and everyone clapped 🤨
Ashley eats in every single challenge. She listens to what the judges say and applies it for the next round. Her going into her background and getting to know her was such a good idea literally off the bat her and nikkita had such good chemistry (idk if that’s how u spell her name tbh I don’t feel like looking it up lolz😭)
I am sorry but does anyone else notice that James always has the most critiques to give to Ashley who is undoubtedly the most talented and capable contestant. It just strikes me as weird.
I feel like he critiqued her the most bc it was super obvious that she was gonna win the show from the first day. Also in order for the show to have some suprise element when announcing the winner.
It may be because she’s the most talented out of all of them. More critique for someone who is already really good is always needed and it helps them to grow more. Idk why but I see a lot in life that people who are really good at things tend to get the most critiques. Even if everything else was great, then you start critiquing the smaller things so they can improve even more. At least that’s how I see it. Not 100% sure obviously 😂
The way James talks about apology videos like it’s just apart of the influencer job description and a menial chore and not just a human thing to do if you have a conscience and basic morals 😭

Some of the criticisms, especially Ashley and Nikitas, don't correlate purely because they had a time restriction. They can't explain and talk about everything when they've got to cut the majority of their footage.
What was James even thinking? How did it never come to his mind that his viewers watching James and the participants making fake apology videos will make people lose trust in them when they actually make one? Come on.
anyone who's obsessed with the idea of "being..... CANCELLED!!!!!!! 😱😱" and constantly talks about it ALWAYS has something to hide and james is a prime example
One of the things that surprised me about all of the contestants is the....I guess lack of cattiness? Like I would have expected more snide remarks between influencers, perhaps mild sabotage. But I haven't really seen much of it apart from Benny's obvious glee at Indigo being eliminated after he swiped that pink wig and still couldn't pull it off. While some of the challenges were a bit campy, I do think they were given ample opportunity to showcase their talents and personality. Then again I'm 34 and know nothing of makeup or influencers so perhaps my opinion doesn't count for much in this situation, lol.
Season 2, hosted by Adam: a concept. Rather than makeup, commentary. Adam will judge based on the points the contestants make and how they support them, rather than just if he agrees or not. Also judging on if they are biased in the situation, as well as if being biased is appropriate in the situation or not. Challenges will include being assigned a drama scenario, and commenting on it and backing up/explaining their opinions. It could even be worldwide, and have interpreters on set if necessary. 😍 Winner gets to pet Milo, best prize ever
the way this show is so bad but i'm so invested 😭??? i love reality/competition shows, face off is literally my fav tv show, so seeing james rip it off and SO POORLY IS SO FUNNY 💀
i can give benefit of the doubt that the first elimination james didnt know how to handle it properly, but it still bothers me that during the eliminations for the male presenting competitors he sat down with them and complimented them greatly, but Bubbles got stared down from above and hardly given a second thought
The videos were only allowed to be 5 minutes....what did Jamea expect? Did he want both Ashley and Nikitas' life story? He just had to find something negative to say.
I usually don’t wear makeup because at work, I sweat it off so what’s the point and at school, it’s too early lol. But I do enjoy the conversations with people when we do our make up together. It’s like getting dinner but talking on a more deeper level.
All I can focus on is the Puppy Nikita brought, it looks to young to be allowed outside just yet because there are vaccines puppys need. Also, Gabriel just had to ctrl+z whatever was deleted 😭
bubbles was so weird to me considering she basically self-brandished herself with a name and said she’s a super bubbly person and yet i could count on less than a hand the amount of times i saw her laugh or even smile 💀 where is this bubbly-ness u speak of??

I'm late to the party, I know. My one issue with this episode was the fact the challenge was to do a collab video and it had to be between 3-5 minutes!! Some of the judge's critiques were irrelevant when the contestants didn't have time to add all this info that they wanted to see! For example, Ashley and Nikita. The idea for the collaboration was too large of an idea to fit into a 5-minute video, so, of course, the conversation felt rushed and talk time wasn't evenly shared. If I was Ashley, I would have edited the video to look like a 5-minute teaser for an upcoming video, but I'm sure James would have complained about that.

I’m so upset like none of these people have channels anymore/never upload they all seem so much cooler than James & actually interesting. and yet he’s the only one still uploading. (I mean, some of them still upload on other websites, but none of them really make RU-vid videos anymore. Like indigo made a RU-vid shorts like a month ago.)
