lucille figueroa I agree :-) They are a treat for us fans. I have seen 3 of his TV movies and this one is my favourite one. I am shocked this did not become a major motion picture.
This has long been reported as a "lost" episode of early TV. Dean was killed 4-1/2 months after this aired. Nice crisp, clean and complete print with a clear soundtrack. What a nice surprise. Thank you
James Dean, the brightest star in cinema, with his talent, looks, sensitivity and charisma, will be remembered and revered, as he has been to date 65 years on, as the most expressive actor to grace our screens- ever !!! Thank you for this super TV film that you have brought to light after all those years. Just like in East Of Eden, this portrayal was him, as his friends have testified, and it’s so great to see him again !!!
@@beatlelennon9168 I understand your enthusiasm for this superb movie, as I’ve watched Eden and Rebel, and his appearances in Giant, hundreds of times since his sad passing, sometimes 3 viewings a day at cinemas !!! Never get tired of his magnificent performances.
My o my having these short film clips are worth millions and if colourized wow were talking about back to actual cinemas possibly... The actors in these films are the best in the business and probably these young ones just don't know yet, but they are the foundation of the oldies but goodies old timers love. With proper paid attention, yes there's money to be made...
Great short. Something eerie about Dean. He did not seem like he was from the '50s. He had the look, mannerisms, dialect, style, haircut, clothing, wrist chain, speech, and attitude of 2020. He was youthful, but in a very hip manner for that time. If you watch him closely in his films--it's as if you are seeing an actor from this period playing in a 1950s movie. Maybe that is why he was an outcast in Hollywood. They were not used to his futuristic vibe.
I've also figured the same, his style of acting is so modern, he looks like a modern actor stuck in a 50s movie. He could enter in a room during any decade, and be considered cool
@@marcokite Your So Right...James Dean had that zesty sperit being a pioneer of actors, Why ? Because he was being himself and he was outstanding no doubt about it... He was so intense and yet so exciting to all around him, but the horrors of sexually abusive producers, directors and their very sick minds taking advantage of the young up coming actors and actresses caused much harm in the acting business. I know I grew up meeting quite a few in the business my step farther owned a fine established restaurant and Tavern in Santa Monica Calif...My God the memories our so crisp I can still feel the warm wind from the sea and feel the atmosphere around me...It is an intense feeling of knowing it well never ever be as beautiful, clean and calm as yesterday...The feeling of just going out for a nice walk to someplace and being relaxed and enjoying the feeling of serenity and peace of mind...That's something nobody can take or change its yours for eternity...
Someone supposedly died of a broken neck on this film (dont want to spoil it for viewers) and l was shocked thinking thats how Dean was going to die soon after that.
I just started getting into James Dean’s work. What an excellent actor! I grew up in Hollywood so of course I heard his name many times. It’s been nice to learn about him. I understand why he’s greatly admired :’)
Nice, crisp film, thank god it's not a lousy Kinescope, of which there are many Dean appeared in. Dean is in top form here as a busboy/cafe worker, and although the script is deficient and not well developed, he is a stand out, very confident and lucid. Sadly, this was his very last television appearance in June of '55, out of numerous ones. Edgar Stehl is related to our family, he is the man who enters the Cafe while Dean the busboy and his boss are discussing his making deliveries.. My dad had met him though I think he was quite an elderly gentlemen who was acting in his later years by then. Stehli also acted in "The Brothers Karamazov"(1958) and also had a brief role as the clock maker alongside Rock Hudson in a sci fi movie called "Seconds" (1966). He was a good character actor and he continued to act well into his later years. Thanks for putting this up on You Tube.
He actually drank hot coffee to make it look real & smoked ,other actors used empty cups or didnt inhale cigarettes, dean didnt believe in useing them as a prop he really got into it
The hell with him were dying! I’m just kidding I love the guy. And he does a great job in this show. Looks like he got out before the shit hit the fan. But he was always one for timing. Whoever’s reading this I just wanna say one thing. Whatever magic this man possessed you’ve got that to but in your own way. The trouble is we get lost along this ridiculous journey and wind up more like Mata Hari. But as long as there’s still breath in our body and blood through our veins we still gotta pulse, wait a minute. Well you know what I mean.
That is a WW2 original Perry Sport A2 leather flight jacket James Dean is wearing. Considering the war only ended 10yrs earlier when the film was made but A2 jacket from the war became popular with the rebellious youth culture in the 50s and 60s.
In addition, my understanding was that James Dean started using the Chuck Taylor (converse) shoes for casual wear. As those shoes were only use for basketball at the time. Afterwords the youth started doing the same thing. He started trends for sure.
He's great in whatever he's in. I have now watched one tv drama with Jimmy. From what I hear, I have a lot to go. This is what RU-vid is great for. 😄😄😄
I had been a huge fan of James Dean before i found this amazing awesome and a talentend man Burt Reynolds , now i know that James Dean is a legende everybody know that but for me Burt Reynolds is also a legende
Even in this short he made for Schlitz Playhouse it's freaky how it foretold what would happen to Jimmy. The state trooper broke his neck in a car accident, on Sept 30, 1955 when Donald Turnpseed pulled in front of James Dean's Spyder it led to him crashing into Jimmy and killing him with a broken neck. So much forewarning was there, there's lots of strange incidents like this. RIP cousin Jimmy, RIP you are gone but never forgotten!
@ 2:55 - 3:13 Jimmy:....'here's my papers'... Waiter: 'forget it kid, I go by faces'... You got that right. Jimmy has the face, the 'it' factor x 1 million.
@@christopherallen9580 Their all now part of the Greats in acting no doubt about it...Marlon, Montgomery and James the best of times for us old ones and our memories...And barkeep set a round of icy cold Schlitz beer for all of us including Mr Dean...Thanks James...
Marlon was awesome, but unfortunetly he got lazy later in his carreer as he had no competition after Dean died and Clift was broken from a car accident, he was lit during his first movies, and by the late 1950's early 1960's he was just there, collecting paychecks and bringing his B game. Dean gave everything he had into every role he'd play, i think he would be eventually better than Brando.
@Kelly T have you ever read a legitimate James Dean biography? I say "legitimate " because over 200 books have been written about him and many are tabloid trash and proven fraudulent. Anyway, Dean had a far from horrible childhood. Yes, he suffered from trauma of losing his mother when he was 9 yrs old, but he was raised by his aunt and uncle on a farm in Indiana. He lived with them until he graduated high school. He remained very close to them until his death and visited every chance he had. In fact, he was supposed to visit them on the weekend he died but had to cancel his trip because he needed to do some voice overs for GIANT. Who knows how things would've turned out if he had been able to go to Indiana as planned?
Kelly T. Dean had a wonderful childhood. The Winslows took him in when he was 9 on their Fairmont Indiana farm. His cousin Marcus still lives there. If anyone is a Dean fan it's worth the trip to Fairmont.
Channing Tatum looks more like James Dean than James Franco. Brad Pitt also resembles James Dean slightly. James Franco looks like James Dean only in photographs.
