It’s still so sad, even all these years later.😢 I just visited James Dean’s hometown in Fairmount Indiana, I collected some wildflowers and placed it on his grave. R.I.P. Jimmy 🌷🌸🌼

The abandoned ranch is where the immigrate worker's lived on the ranch, I'm from Salinas & lived on a ranch & the immigrate worker's lived next to us.

Sickly ironic - roughly two weeks before James Dean's death, he did a TV spot about driving safely. After a brief chat with the host of the spot, who I think was Gig Young, in closing, Dean says to the viewers - "Take it easy driving. The life you safe might be mine." Really eerie.

Jordan I don’t know if you know this but the other car that was with James Dean was driven by Bill Hickman and his passenger was Sanford Roth Sanford Roth is the one who took all the pictures at the crash site and Bill Hickman was actually the stunt driver in the movie bullet he drove the black charger

I’ve been to both sites many times while staying in Paso Robles. Nice video. Btw I’m from NC and never thought I’d see the actual sites. Funny how life works.

If you had went into the Jack Ranch Cafe, you’d have seen all the memorabilia on the walls. I have stopped there many times over the years and have purchased a lot of James Dean Memorabilia. I grew up in Blackwells Corner. Such a clear place. I actually saw a Comet vividley cruise across the sky before mass amount of smog. I worked at the original store, My Bosses name is Ron. Asked him if I could work there at 16 im 37 now. He said bring me a school permit. James Dean and Marylyn Monroe have a place in Blackwells Corner

Well, you tried. The intersection is totally different from when James Dean was there. The memorial spot is just that, not where he landed. That triangular island bounded by the 41 on ramp, the 41 turn off, and Hwy 46 is closer. Those were two lane Hwys back then and it was a Y intersection; tempting drivers to cross the on coming traffic at Hwy speeds without slowing. Check out "James Dean precise crash location from Google Earth" RU-vid video for the explanation! Loved the video of you approaching the intersection with the on coming traffic turning left in front of you! I watched it at 1.75x, (and 2x with volume off) and that really gives you an idea of what it was like!

What's funny is that in the reenactment, the car coming from the opposite side swerved fast asf into the path of James Dean's car and not the other way around like people claimed!!

Blue moon ranch buildings were for the people who worked the farm land in that area. Kern County California.

I've been to Fairmount twice and visited his grave, got to meet his cousin Marcus, and see the farmhouse he grew up in. Such a nice little town and very peaceful. I can't wait to go again.

The abandoned Motel was a sweet departure from your usual fare. Feel sorry for Mr. Turnupseed having to hitch home. One photo of the accident doesn't match up with the location of the memorial. In the original photo the dark, larger mountain behind the grassy hills is from a different angle. I think it took place further to the right of where you were, closer to the phone poles in your vlog following the original highway. Just my opinion, and who really knows. James Dean Rest In Peace we loved you.

Thank you. We drive past those spots at least twice a year for the past ten years and most of the time stop at Blackwell's corner and buy something. Every time we pass the memorial at the intersection I feel a little sad, even though I was born after he passed. I am surprised the memorial there is not bigger. It is a scary intersection, especially at night and I give thanks every time we make it through. It is otherwise a pretty peaceful drive, with views of cattle and ravens and sometimes hawks, foxes and wildflowers.

Showing that intersection from a distance was genius. You know what we like!

Your video clearly shows the brightness of the sunlight and the glare on the road. It's easy to see now how this accident took place. Those cars turning left in front of the oncoming traffic is pretty scary.

I live in Visalia and know the grand kids of Don Turnupseed! He (Don) turned out to be very successful, he spoke of it very rarely but the grand kids did.

They only widened the roads and added a transition RD. The actual intersection collision spot still remains and Deans car ended up in what is now the dirt triangle that divides the transition rd from the Highway.

I can't remember where I read it and I've never been able to find any picture or anything. Please, if anyone has any information, let me know. Jordan, your attention to detail is epic. As someone who wants to know every detail about whatever subjects I'm interested in, this is a gift. You're going to places I might never be able to see in person and showing the things I would look for if I was there. Truly a gift...thank you!

Guess I've always been baffled how even though that Spyder was really tiny and low to the ground...it was extremely shiny and how could Turnupseed not have seen it coming? Dean was clocked by a cop at around 80 but he wasn't that reckless and would have presumably slowed down a bit at that intersection. Even though his last words to Wutherich were " that guy's gotta see us coming"

Cool! I just found out that In the cemetery 10 mins from house here in Pen Argyl PA Jane Mansfield is buried.

For a few years, Jimmy's biology teacher, was a pen pal. It was fun hearing how Jimmy was just a regular, nice person and active high school student. Mr. Caughell passed away several years ago.

Loved it , a 2nd movie after the 1974 gone in 60 seconds was filmed called the Junkman, was filmed in that town were he died of CHOLAME area most scenes are vast country land and are car crashing action style muscle car scenes.

Every time I make the drive from Palm Desert to Monterey, I make sure I hook up with Highway 46. stop at Blackwell Corner and head west on 46 past the site .

You just have to look at the dashboard screen, the little gas tank symbol will have an arrow showing what side the gas tank is on.

I think those "abandoned rooms" are actually living quarter cabins for the farm workers.

love this dude my sister and I have done this trip 3 times and every time something trippy happens. the first time inside the restaurant where his car was sent a older gentleman who said that was the owner gave us a tour of the place told us stories. even that's the place where Jimmy friends called the ambulance. 2 years later when we visted the site a worker said that no such man existed and the owner has been a women for the longest and dismiss the story that the guy told us. also saw the Indiana ones that u did aswell loved I went there as well but was not able to see all the stuffed you should so I was ecstatic to see your video and will use yours as a reference next time I go. pluss cool fact I also was at the rudalph Valentino memorial and saw the 2 ladies in black awsome to see that we had cross path makes me a fan of u even more keep up the fabulous work dude

That intersection back in 1955 seem to be very dangerous. I'm sure that's why they changed it.

Hey Jordan, I discovered your vlogs just last night and I think they're absolutely great, they're captivating actually and your dog an added bonus. I grew up in a town not far from Blackwell's corner, I remember the original building/store that was there as a kid in the early 60s we would stop there on our way to the beach and the photo you showed in the vlog of the old building was on display back then also. As an interesting side note at one point in the video you zoomed in on Dean's crash site from a high point on a hill, from the bottom of that hill and halfway to the crash site you cross over the San Andreas Fault. I'd like to mention on Nov. 3 2018 at Minter Field airport just north of Bakersfield there will be an airshow to honor James Dean and the times he raced on the airfield, another interesting side note Minter Airfield is home to a P-51 Mustang called #7 Strega which holds the record for the most wins at the Reno Air Races, currently on display at Planes of Fame air museum in Chino. Speaking of Planes of Fame Jordan your vlogs seem to have a movie/history theme to them check out Planes of Fame air museum many Planes have been in movies and TV shows, 12 O'clock high, Tora Tora Tora, Pearl Harbor, Baa Baa Black Sheep to name a few.

This is an emotional vlog..my daughter loved James Dean, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis..she was killed in a car accident also..she was 26 years old..😥

I know I am old, but it is still strange to me that James Dean died 2 years before I was born. When I was a kid, I still saw so much stuff about him on tv that I thought he was still alive. Great vlog trip Jordan!
