James Harden Traded To The LA Clippers

LAC moved a 2027 unprotected swap to OKC, OKC sent 2026 least favorable of OKC/HOU/LAC. It’ll likely end up being OKC’s 2026 1st. PHI ended up with two 2nds, a ‘26 1st (like I said prolly OKC’s but could be LAC’s), LAC ‘28 1st, LAC ‘29 swap (T3 protected) in terms of picks. They also got off of PJs 11M for next year. They’ll now have around 5 1sts to move this summer and $60M+ in cap with Maxey Joel and Springer. This is a future focused move. Philly wasn’t contending with or without Harden this year. They’ll still be good, a playoff team, but at best a second round out most likely. Joel isn’t leaving this year, he’s not leaving next summer. Next year if they fail to retool properly around Joel and Maxey, I can see him leaving after 24-25. Only time will tell, but this was good value for Harden for PHI. LAC is all in, completely. They do still have the ability to trade their 2030 1st but that’s it rn. For OKC this is an upside move. They already have LAC ‘24 1st, ‘25 swap involving them, ‘26 1st, ‘27 swap, and facilitated them trading their ‘28 1st and ‘29 swap lightly protected. So they’re all in and don’t have control over almost any of their own picks. OKC is probably gonna end up giving out a pick in the 20 area in 2026, for the chance of possibly being able to swap their own 1st or DEN’s 1st in ‘27 for an unprotected LAC pick that could be a really good lotto pick. It’s more risk, but higher upside.

I think ppl saying that the 76ers got fleeced are over reacting. Harden was a dead asset on an expiring contract and they got other assets and 2 first round picks. Obviously they are setting up to get a disgruntled star in the future.

As a clippers fan this trade severely upsets me. I think our roster finally hit a point for the first time since 2021 where we worked well together, and unfortunately injuries couldn’t show that during the playoffs but we should have kept it together. Our issue last year was needing a true facilitator to pair with two ball dominant scorers and we got that in Westbrook. Now our bench depth is gone and we are betraying all that Nicolas Batum has done for us as a mentor and a player bought into his role. I hate how the NBA chases big names these days over well built teams. No wonder the best teams left in the playoffs last year focused on that over big name star power.

Realistically this isn’t gonna be as bad as people think. Russ and Harden, although they both need the ball, have shown they can play off each other. Russ has proven he can bring defensive intensity, and PG and Kawhi are both elite on both sides. IMO this is especially good for Paul George, who’s been in mvp contention every season he’s been with an elite playmaker and now he has two of them. This gives the clippers lots of potential to experiment with playoff lineups as well as load management. If they can keep away from the Harden isos, this could work out better than expected

as a sixer fan i’m pretty happy about the trade. i knew we were never gonna get the true value of harden back but 3 first round picks and 4 tradable expiring contracts is great. we can move them and get a guy or we can sign a all star caliber player in the playoffs, for example trading for brogdon and then signing siakam and reuniting the cameroon brothers would be nice!!!!!

This reminds me of the offseason where the Lakers and the Nets each had the Allstar game of 2013 and then neither of them did anything afterwards. I think I might just be a James Harden hater at this point but watching him give up on 3 different teams in like 3 years just makes me think the PG13/Kahwi Clippers are in their death throes.

I think it’s a pretty good haul both ways and clips Mann Norm and Mason and have pj for depth. That’s a solid 8/9 man rotation and you can always have a playmaker, shot maker, big and wing defender or two at all times so the depth of the bench is supported by starters and lineups can be staggered for rest. Philly could go for either OG or a Chicago guy like Zach or Derozan. What about: KJ Morris Melton pick and swap - OG and Otto Porter Jr. Or: hear me out Raptors get: KJ/Morris/Melton/Philly 1st/2 Philly 2nds Bulls get: Batum/Roco/Koloko/Philly1st/Philly 1st swap/Philly 2nd Philly gets: OG/Derozan/OttoPorter Jr That sounds like a lot but Philly would be showing Embiid they’re all in plus the salaries would match and They would be out of the tax, plus Bulls and Raptors can start to rebuild. Then Raptors could send Pascal to a contender like Heat/Hawks or Timberwolves (my choice, get KAT and pick/swap for Siakam) and they would have a better fit also. Just a thought ! This happened with the Smart-Porzingis deal. All they announced was that Washington has sent Porzingis to the Boston Celtics, and Cs fans for a while thought the original deal with Brogdon was back on. It was like 20 minutes before the bomb was dropped that Smart was gone instead 😂

The fact that PG and Kawhi are some of the few superstar guards/wings that actually play defence makes me less iffy about having 4 stars on the floor at once and not be a defensive mess.

2 amazing playmakers and 3 amazing scorers. One of the amazing scorers is one of the amazing playmakers. 2 of the amazing scorers are arguably two of the best defenders in the league. On paper this team should be unstoppable, the only downside could be a missing presence down low when zubac comes out but besides that they’re flawless

The sixers got a great deal here. They got contributing veteran 3&D players, and a young prospect in KJ martin with a ton of draft capital. However, I think Tyrese Maxey is what made the trade possible. If he wasn’t playing as great as he’s been playing, I think the sixers would’ve waited for a star to be available. But it looks like Tyrese Maxey is their all-star compliment to Embiid, so the pieces they got in return makes a lot of sense.

Imo, the Sixers just saved their season. I was kinda mixed about how Harden re-entering the lineup would affect what they have going on with Maxey, but they avoided that possible conundrum. Losing pj tucker is big for that locker room, but as long as you get buy in from Maxey, Harris, and Embiid, you feel alright. As a Celtics fan, I feel less comfortable about a Maxey-Embiid sixers team, as a opposed to a Harden-Embiid sixers team. I feel realllly good about Maxey this season, and he may be one of my favorite players this season. Gonna be interested to see how Philly ends up come playoff time.
