It’s 1:26am and my neighbor (traveling nurse/dj) grills hella late and plays his music loud in the driveway on the weekdays and he was playing some old school sounding music, I figured some 50s early 60s, and a couple of songs just had a grip on me and I listened carefully and quickly searched all the words I could make out and I hovered over James hunter because it said 2006. I did a good thing by checking just in case. This is amazing. My ears are sprouting flowers
I'm a big Van Morrison fan. have been for 40 years. I love it when James Hunter tours with VM. He seems so happy and delightful on stage with VM. He makes Van smile. Very talented and lovey Artist. Keep touring guys. Would love to see you in San Francisco, Ca.
He lives in Brighton. I see him a lot around & about. I'm originally a London Girl & first heard & saw him at the 100 Club in Oxford Street many years ago. His style of music has changed quite a bit since....
Was in a Starbucks around October 07 and I'll Walk Away came on - hooked. Then in 09 went to Ronnie Scotts in Soho and saw him live - best concert of life.
heard him on Robert elms show last week , stunning ! my kinda band. he has yet another huge fan. having fun going through the back catalogue. making me wana buy another turntable, theres a lot of lovely vinyl out there again !
I just heard this guy for the -first- time today at his site(s), and MAN HE'S GOOD ! I'll be buying his stuff for sure, just don't know what to buy first :\
yeah you're right. i got him mixed up with another artist. Lol. I Have seen James Hunter many times. First time i saw him was at the 100 Club in Oxford Street London & thought he was great. Still think he's a great artist. :)
What a great sound. But, who is doing the bloody editing of this show, when James hunter is playing his guitar, the camera cuts to the horn section, huh? what's up wit dat?
geeeeez....it's only been around for so many years....soul...very very a la sam cooke....he uses the recipe that theyve been using for years, but he does it very wellll! very well....
Many moons ago I did a photography project at college in London and took a picture of Mr Hunter performing as ‘Howling Wilf and the Vee Jays’ at Covent Garden. Some years later I met him in a professional capacity. He’s a truly genuine guy. Nice to know James has made a splash across the pond for some years now. A unique talent with a equally unique voice. 🙏🌞🇬🇧🙏
I saw James and the guys in 2008 when they supported Willie Nelson, and they weren't my type, but bloody f-- they were good, and I can even remember how the emcee guy welcomed him onto the stage. If he does up here again, I might consider it, cause I'd like to hear what he can do in a full-length concert.
No worries, it's easy to mix up all those names (is it Howlin' Wilf or Howlin' Wolf, Screamin' Wilf or Screamin' Jay Hawkins) :-) It's good that he's using his own name now... and the music has alayws been good, that's the main point.
Hi,I'm from Dublin but this show is called Later with Jools Holland usually filmed at the BBC in London and shown on BBC2 on a Friday night, you may have heard of him from England. He has his own Rhythm & Blues band as well. You can check here for The James Hunter Six,I think they are back in England the past few days playing O2 Arena Islington,London.I would like to see them play. They have an album called Hold On! at the moment,I bought the lp myself. You can also buy some records of his from Daptone Records,New York.Hope you found stuff already!
Caught his act @ the burnaby roots & blues fest in britis columbia...refreshingly a cross between Ray Charles & Sam Cook. Had to come home & buy his disc that night.
Im quite shocked that his live stuff isn't (in my opinion) as good as his records, and his brilliant and unique voice doesnt really come across in this. Still great though.
