But the dance off is supposed to be judged on the dance they are watching in the dance off. Angela made a mistake and twice a look of terror came over her face as her mind went totally blank. Krishnan upped his game and didnt make any mistakes.
Krishnan did make a mistake, can’t believe nobody pointed it out. Angela R was also better technically. This is coming from someone who adores Krishnan and is not a big fan of Angela, but even I can see it was the correct decision.
Taking your point that ‘dance off is supposed to be judged on the dance they are watching in the dance off’, then whether the celebrities ‘upped his/her game’ should not be relevant. Therefore the three judges using ‘technical difficulties and basic elements included’ as they saw in the dance off to judge and make decision is not wrong.
I LOVED BOBBY’S DANCE. It was so beautiful and emotional. When they ran to the stairs and back and Dianne jumped into Bobby’s arms, I felt it. I was moved. If Shirley can forgive Angela’s mistakes then she is fully capable of forgiving Bobby’s. And I don’t like how Craig throws tantrums at certain people.
Hi James, next week, would you mind discussing more about how much control the professional dancers have over the order of dances they perform, e.g can the professional completely avoid a Samba if they don't think it would suit their celeb, or can they try and get it over with early in the competition? Also, do the professionals get to select the music? Really enjoying the Strictly The Truth series 😊
Pretty sure these days (may have been different in James' day) that the production team choose the concept, the music and the dance order. They can manipulate the dance order (like samba for Krishnan or rumba for Adam) and the music/costume etc to ease celebs out the door when their time is up. I think there have been the odd example where the pro has put his foot down and got a dance changed to something else. I think Gio did with Rose in the semi final of their year when they were supposed to do two speciality dances in the semi and he got Charleston changed for a waltz. Obviously the production team also went the best entertainment show possible for the audience in terms of dance mix etc - it's not all a conspiracy theory.
Nigel and Katya were my MVP this week as well. I agree with James that the judges seem overly harsh whenever he's on stage. His tango last week was easily one of the best tangos I've seen on strictly, and his couple's choice was flawless, and yet there's no hype coming from the judges (compared to the hype that Annabel and Angela R receive). I really hope the public sees through it and continue to vote for him, because he really is an incredible dancer (and Katya's choreography is unmatched!).
I agree her choreography is amazing the year she won strictly with the Scottish actor cant remember his name they were amazing last week when Shirley said when diane and Bobby finished their dance she said that diane choreography was very good Bobby then said thank you to the other choreographerî who helped them Diane did not .look happy he said this... last year mitchell danced with gratziano and she said the same thing thanking the choreographer for their help l never thought gratziano was a good choreographer but got better last year because he was getting help, l thought that it was the pro dancer who did their own choreography to teach the celebs obvouysly not the case l thought dianes coreography was different really good this year not what she usually does but Bobby said another choreographer helped them too James do you think this is right did you ever get a choreographer go help you.
, @@margueritahancock5472 I think you’re a little confused. dianne did a whole insta post before their Argentine tango thanking the choreographers, the pros never choreograph the Argentine tango. Dianne brilliantly choreographs all her own dances except the speciality dances where ALL the pros have outside choreographers.
@@margueritahancock5472all pros get help with specialist dances that are outside of the traditional 10 dance format. They get guest choreographers for Charleston, couple’s choice, Salsa and Argentine Tango. For instance i believe Vincent Simone assists with argentine tango choreography. Hope this makes sense
@@margueritahancock5472Joe McFadden is the name you're looking for - I think it's a shame he's got forgotten he was a good dancer and he seems like a nice guy.
The best Ed balls number had to be the Halloween cha cha. The fact he was making up the choreography in the middle of the routine. That must’ve been fun for the producers and Katya 😂 Ed done this sorta Beyoncé Crazy in Love hand running down the front of his body 😂😂
Bobby and Dianne becoming one of my all time favourite partnerships. Their connection and story telling each week is beautiful! And I know it’s not important to some people, but for me it is….he’s the only one left in the competition with no previous dance training or experience, so he’s doing extra brilliant
I don’t think the judges should jump up and applaud, etc. They're there to give their informed opinion and a score. I feel this unduly influences the studio audience and in turn the tv viewers.
I used to love strictly but now I just watch the dances after on RU-vid and check the scores. Can’t stand seeing how the judges spout rubbish about some and then rave about their favourites, the scoring is ridiculous and totally unfair. It is making a total mockery of the show. My favourites are Ellie and Veto but have to agree with James that Nigel was fantastic this week.
I’ve noticed similar when catching up with the US version. I watch a couple and think they’re amazing and they’ll surely win, only to see the odd scoring by the judges. I only watch the dances on RU-vid rather than the episodes. Sometimes I feel baffled at who gets voted off on the US version. I have noticed however, that the US show is more of a popularity contest than it is about dancing technique
It’s Bobby and Dianne that have made strictly joyous again for me. There’s something so pure when they dance, each dance has its own story and I feel they were meant to dance together. Also for a complete beginner he is amazing, Diannes teaching and choreography is outstanding
I totally agree, I'm only watching it to see Bobby and Dianne.. Because the judging is driving me crazy and Craig was so rude about hands.. I don't think I'll be watching next year..
When Shirley was praising Diane's choreography bobby said l would would like to thank some other choreographer don't know his name obviously works behind the scenes who helped us Diane did not look pleased she just looked straight ahead and said nothing her choreography has got so much better this year her l thought was always okay 😅 nothing we had the same thing last year Grazziano and Micnelle she did exactly the same thing and thanked some other choreographer Grazziaño l don't feel was ever a good choreographer or teacher last year was his best year....it was his first time he made it to blackpool,l am only mentioning this because l thought that the pros had to do their own choreography with their celeb partners?
@@margueritahancock5472 yes all the pros do their own choreography apart from the specialist dances, like the Argentine tango, that’s why Bobby and Dianne thanked the outside choreographers.
@@margueritahancock5472 and you obviously don’t know dianne because she put up an actual insta post thanking the Argentine tango choreographers. If Dianne didn’t look pleased it was because they got undermarked again.
James I love you! Finally Nigel getting some recognition- he’s been soooo under marked for weeks. I just don’t understand why? I’ve loved all of his dances, he’s so hugely watchable and Katya’s choreo is the bomb.
The choreo for the Halloween spooky cha cha was incredible. It had Latin choreo, zombie walks and moves from thriller music video. I think it was under appreciated by the judges. Katya outdone herself on that one. Highly entertaining and crowd pleasing
Strictly would need a “panto villain” style judge if Craig left. Judging panels work best with a mixture of types of judging. It would be boring if it was all flowers and rainbows and everyone got 10s. The public have watched the show for years and know what they’re looking at now. The public can see stomping, sickled feet, dropped arms, little mishaps. These type of shows need a Craig Revel Horwood, Simon Cowell or Jason Gardner type judge who tells it like it is
Absolutely agree with James about the judges,so sorry to see Kristen go . Ellie and Vito are just amazing bringing the lovely magic back to Strictly , winners all the way ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I really enjoy hearing your critique. Can I suggest further video discussions following this series, like an analysis on your favourite ever dances from Strictly? Such as best pasos, tangos, best choreography, best pro dance, etc.
The guy is too biased to be objective, see how he always emphasises that Layton is a professional dancer, then heaps praises on Nigel who has even won an Olivier award for Stage and musical performance. I thought a magazine like Hello would pick it’s critiques wisely. The worst thing is that he is trying to sway voters from voting for Layton, claiming he has an advantage, which is not fair. I think he just hates Layton and can’t stand the fact that Layton looks better than him dancing even though he has just started learning ballroom and latin. Give credit where it’s due. It is an entertainment show not a novice show, hence why we have people from all backgrounds. Layton has made the show very entertaining and people are enjoying seeing perfection on TV
Remember some yrs back how Brendan Cole used to get his knuckles rapped for daring to argue with the judges? I wouldn't mind seeing him on the Judging panel 🤗
James does keep stressing that Layton is a professional dancer (and I agree that he is unlikely to win because of this) but never mentions that Angela R and Ian Waite released a "how to ballroom dance" DVD; that Angela S used to tour as a dancer; and Nigel was a professional dancer on a cruise ship. I'm Team Ellie all the way, but I love watching Layton and NIkita and seeing how Nikita has adapted to the choreographic challenges and watching their partnership develop.
Glad you mentioned this- it’s hardly like the producers pick one person skilled in some areas of dance with the rest being non dancers every year- that would never make good TV- a good few of them have at least dabbled in so.e shape or form. Yh Layton and Nikita’s partnership this year has really struck me too- its evolution is what makes me smile when watching them as the weeks go by- they’re winners in my eyes largely due to this, the glitter ball really doesn’t have the impact that it used to anymore.
Ooow James I look forward to Mondays to hear your views. I have to agree with you again especially with the judges...boy do they make me angry! Their voting is ludicrous. I’m so glad you mentioned how “over the top” Shirley and Motsi get, totally uncalled for ima. I think we need a shake up with the judges James...you need to be on the panel! You never know, Craig might call it a day! 😁👍 Nigel to win for me...👍
If Craig leaves they have to replace him like for like. We need a “panto villain” type judge for the audience to boo. It’s part of these types of shows that there is a “mean” judge that tells it like it is. Examples: Simon Cowell in X factor, Jason Gardner on Dancing on Ice, Janice Dickenson on America’s top model. If all the judges told everyone they’re great the public would be annoyed. Handing out 10s like candy saying it was sunshine and rainbows treats the viewers like fools. We’ve been watching strictly for many years and can see mistakes, bad posture, sickled feet etc. As much as everyone gets irritated with harsh judging it’s part of an entertainment show.
@@lisar655 I agree with you. I’ve been watching from the start ...many moons ago! 😀 I do think with James being so honest he’d make a fabulous judge in place of Craig tbh. Craig does get tiring though and it’s just my opinion! He’s a nice person really. He lives not far from where I live. He’s okay!👍 it’s just his tv persona 😉
If Ellie perfromed in your opinion Strictly's best ever Rhumba, surely she was the week's MVP? I do agree that it was a really tough week to single any couple out as having been the stand out performers, but we've seen so many brilliant Argentine Tango dances over the years and there's been brilliant couples choice dances too. I think the one time a celebrity pulls off an exceptional Rhumba, it deserves to at least be dance of the week. Here's looking forward to Blackpool.
Ellie and Vito always suffer in terms of order. The judges tend to undermark them crazily. The judges seem to have such high standards for them while they treat others differently. I’m sick of them undermarking her, that rumba was one of the best I’ve ever seen.
ca. 2:30 "He [Kai]'s staying away from the sambas, from the jive,..." I thought the couples, including the pros, have no say in what dance style they're assigned each week. Other controversies. I respect Shirley's integrity and commend her strength of character. She put some handwriting on the wall last week and was consistent with it again this week, even though none of the other judges agreed with her.
I agree but I'm surprised you think having professional dancers on the show is a new thing. What about Danny Mac, Debbie McGee, and Faye Tozer? I feel like it's kind of always been a thing.
Every year the Public have an issue with a Pro and its hypocritical and boring! But Jill halfpenny and Jay McGuinness wernt an issue !I think for that reason next year i may not even bother watching strictly
Hi James I'm new here as didn't know about this channel. I feel better watching you as I agree with you every week lol I loved Angela scallion but they always remark on her posture. Just my opinion but do you not think it's because she is an Irish dancer? She was with a competition group till her late terns and you have to have straight legs! And be stiff and upright. It's just a thought lol I loved her dance on sat My fave is Ellie and Vito and Nigel and katya I'm hoping he gets over the nerves now Also the above plus layton should have had tens!! . Love your channel and see you next week! ❤ Cathy
Hello James, from South Africa. We, in South Africa, are watching Strictly a week behind the actual show. I'm new to your channel and I would like to say I admire and applaud your honesty about the show, the judges and especially pointing out that Layton is a professional dancer! I agree with you about the public wanting to see a 'non-dancers' progression through the show. My favourite couple, from the beginning is Ellie and Vito. I have loved all the couples this year, but I hate to say it, except Layton, only because he is a professional dancer! James, I am so glad I have found your channel and I have subscribed. Many thanks.
The others are also professionals apart from Annabelle and Bobby but he keeps picking on Layton. Nigel has as much stage, musical and dancing experience as Layton
After listening to your comments, I’m now wondering if we can trust the judges. Ellie and Nigel are my favourites. The judges are clearly under marking them. Integrity is essential….
Hi James how can you say that Layton being top of the leader board that he want be in a dance off.. I remember Alexandra Burke being top of the leader board and being in the dance off.. Also you keep saying Layton is a professional dancer and it’s not right for him to be in the show .. forgive me if I’m wrong but I thought Layton danced ballet .. could you as a professional ballroom dancer dance to a high standard of ballet with intense training for 5 days in a show like strictly and get 10’s and 9’s every week. I figure there are many styles of dancing and if you good at one style of dance doesn’t mean you will be good at another. I am grateful to have witnessed many good dances in this year strictly and maybe that’s because many of the people that are left have had some sort of dance background like Elle ballet and street dance, Angela ballet , Nigel performing arts and Angela Irish dancing .. so as you see most of these people have danced and I feel you should point this out as you are being to sound a little biased towards Layton
Strictly is about watching celebrities dance. Some have dance experience and some don’t. This is the beauty of Strictly in my opinion. So many winners have had extensive dance experience; Jill Halfpenny, Caroline Flack, Jay from the Wanted etc. Mr Strictly please please don’t stop putting people with dance experience in!!!
Yes James, the judges and dare I say production have been dampening down Nigel for weeks. So obvious the way judges react and pick at him to create the narrative of ' mistakes' when we see others make errors and are lauded. I think its so obvious now that judges/producers are curating the leaderboard. They can get who they want in B2 e.g Adam, Krish. Sad thing, they will do it in SemiFinal, who will be in DO. Agree Layton protected so far, look how Fleur and Molly were in DO 3/4 times each. That said, Layton, Ellie & Nigel Final would be the best dance wise.
Love your commentary, yet again. Totally agree. Ellie and Nigel are my favourites. I was sad to see Krishnan go as loved his whole attitude and dance improvement.
Omg, me and my husband loved Rachel Stevens with Vincent Simone. Fantastic Rumba but also their Argentine Tango was great too. She always had perfect hip action. She also I'm certain had past dance experience most likely from stage school. A lot have such as Emma Bunton from the Spice Girls. Mel B won Dancing with the Stars in America and she too had dance experience. But not ballroom & Latin. Also, anyone who is better than a complete novice dancer will have a more difficult routine. Look at the top dancers routines. They're on a professional level
So agree with you James except in the dance off Angela made a mistake and she stumbled, the judges have always said that they only judge the dance in the dance off and any mistake means you lose so why did this not happen when Krishnan made no mistakes?
You don't get voted off just for making an error. It's based on the whole dance . Angela is a far better dancer than Krishnan was. I don't get why everyone thought he was a 'joy'. He was no happier than anyone else.
Hi my son (5 yo) loves Layton, I personally love Nigel (and Katya). She really choreographed a beautiful dance for Nigel. I watched it 3 times! I also love Bobby but agree that his hands annoyed me. I also actually enjoyed Angla R this week which surprised me, i liked the concept and choreography.
I can't help but applaud Angela Rippon. Are there many who can dance like she is age79? The training arduous and relentless. I don't know how she is coping with it all? I am left wondering what her secret is.She has so much energy and zest for life. She is only on year from 80😊!
The only reason Angela R didn’t end up flat on her back with that slip through is that Kai saved her. That’s a pretty big mistake to make imo! The wrong couple went home *based on that dance off* which is what they are *supposed to be* judged on. I don’t have the enthusiasm for Strictly that I’ve had in past years. I also agree that celebrities should NOT already be professional dancers!
I adored Krishnan! I am really really sad to see him leave because I did always enjoy watching him! But sadly he was the weaker dancer but I did still enjoy it! Love Layton! Really enjoyed Bobby this week. I actually really enjoyed everyone’s dances this week! I think everyone did step it up this week!
Angela’s posture was like Mrs Overall and she never seems to point her toes when she does the leg lift so it doesn’t look as elegant as it could. Ellie’s dance was great but I thought her hips could’ve had a bit more sway, the dress did her a favour. If that’s what the judges thought by not giving her a ten, they should say so. I think Bobbie is always under-marked, he gives the best emotion and is the most watchable for me. I love Annabelle but that samba was just ok. It drives me mad when the judges say something is fantastic with no criticism but then don’t give a ten. I’d want to know what I needed to do to get a ten so you need the specific feedback. I used to like Anton as a dancer but he drones on with his comments and becomes repetitive. I always watch Craig’s face then😄
You are opening my eyes the judges are not consistent. I feel they have their favourites. How about you doing a few more dances ? Really enjoyed your jive with Olla.
Best week so far but wrong dance off decision and inconsistent marking. I voted for him as he’s what entertainment and progress is. Angela ripping is lovely but I think some judges are quite bias to her. Totally agree with James. Dances are hand picked for her. and her paso was quite weak. I love Kai though ❤
Layton is NOT a professional dancer. He doesn't earn a living from simply dancing. He wrapped filming on the latest series of the BBC comedy Bad Education the week Strictly training started. He co-wrote two of the episodes. He is an actor who has had dance training from attending stage school, like many on the show this year and every year. Clare Sweeney from series 1 attended Italia Conti like Layton and had been in musicals so it's always happened. He's an actor who sings and dances and has been in a number of musicals. Yes, he has the most training (only because he was Billy Elliot as a child and the training for that was intense) and the most natural ability. Lots of other contestants over the years have had a similar level of training (from attending stage school) and/or experience. Nigel went to Arts Ed, a top stage school, his first job was as a professional dancer on cruise ships and he's been in more musicals than Layton. Angela S went to the top Irish dancing school and toured in the US as a professional Irish dancer for a while. Angela R wanted to be a professional dancer and trained in ballet. Ellie has trained in ballet, tap and street. Everyone left apart from Bobby has some level of dance training/experience. Does it really matter? No it doesn't if it makes an entertaining show. I imagine Layton has learnt more dance technique in the last two months than he's learnt since he left school. And he's having to work just as hard as everyone else - especially given he's fighting his feet and his pigeon toes every week. Imagine what SCD would be like with 15 non dancers. It would be awful. They have always had people with varying degrees of dance experience in every series. Denise VO (partnered by James) famously said that she mainly sat on a chair when she was in Chicago. Lots of contestants have minimised their dance pasts. Tom Chambers later said the producers asked him to play down his prior experience. I imagine that has happened a lot over the years. They are making an award winning shiny floor Saturday night entertainment show to make people happy in the dark nights of Autumn and Winter. And with the cost of living crisis and general misery it's more important than ever. I love it, whatever it's flaws. It makes me smile and it makes me happy. It's not an international standard dance competition and it never has been. Watching Layton and Nikita dance brings me joy (as do all the partnerships). Also it's important to have Layton in a same sex partnership for LGBTQIA+ representation. The audience will never know why they asked him to take part. Maybe because Ritchie and Gio went out week 3 last year and Jayde and Karen not long after. Maybe they wanted a same sex partnership likely to go further into the competition. Maybe they were struggling to find anyone willing to be in a same sex partnership, given the increased hatred for LGBT people in the current climate. Maybe they were struggling to get people of colour to take part and Layton ticked both boxes (boxes that should be ticked so SCD is representative). Layton has received a lot of hate on social media. Much of it is homophobic. He said in an interview last week that he lay in bed one morning thinking everyone in the country hated him. How horrible when he's just trying to enjoy himself learning new dances on the telly to put on a show and entertain everyone. I hope he can manage to focus on the bigger picture - that queer kids can see someone who is openly gay on their telly every week being successful. Every kid can see Layton and Nikita perform and they can grow up thinking it's absolutely normal to see two men dancing together and one of them sometimes wears a dress. The doctor from morning live who was on the ITT Friday panel last week said he was her children's favourite. If nothing else, this is a win for Layton, a win for Strictly and a win for the country when Esther McVey has just been appointed as a minister for anti-wokeness.
Layton and Nikita absolutley deserved that 40 I agree also he gets a lot of stick on here but Layton is clearly putting in a huge amount of work I personally think this year would be far worse without him, also you keep saying its his full time job but its not he''s been a musical theatre performer like danny mac but he has done multiple series of a comedy show just acting he's not studied ballroom or latin before (unlike angela rippon)
You need to have some really good (trained) celebrity dancers otherwise it would be boring - a good range of abilities makes it interesting- I love Layton and Nikita as they are breaking all the barriers and the routines are breathtaking - they are the only ones I watch again and again
Angela Rippon was always going to get to Blackpool - I have said this since the launch show back in September. The judges would keep her if she lands in the bottom two - my prediction has been 100% correct. This attitude that just because she used to host Come Dancing is a reason she needs to get to Blackpool is pathetic and a fix. I can't wait for the moment in Blackpool when the judges turn against her and really hammer her routine. It will happen.
It's a shame Krishnan has gone, he always reminded me of Chris Hollins in the way he was always so bright and upbeat and totally enjoying everything. I find it very interesting to hear you say Kai is cherry-picking Angela's dances - I thought the dances were allocated to them in some way - but it makes me wonder why the other pros don't do the same? Am I right in thinking that, back in the early days, there would only be two dances each week with half the contestants performing one dance and the other half performing the other? I don't recall jives and sambas coming up in week 2, in fact not until the celebs had got a bit of stamina. Perhaps, to make things fair, they should either revert to that and have increasingly difficult dances each week, or perhaps it should be random and the celebs should pull their dance for the next week out of a hat? As always you are spot on with your comments. I told my partner a couple of weeks ago that Leyton won't win. He is in the same position as the wonderful Danny Mac, only more so. Danny was brilliant (not to mention gorgeous!), but he had some dance experience and was up against Ore who had none. I guess there's a limit to how many people with little or no dance experience are available and willing to do the show, and maybe they also want to provide a bit of variety and give us someone good to watch from the start, but that's not fair on Leyton. I love Ellie and Vito, and their rumba was simply gorgeous - as good as Rachel and Vincent's, which is the only really memorable one for me... Until now. I'm looking forward to the weekend and your hearing your comments next week. I live in hope of you being able to explain the judging, but I guess you haven't been able to find a working crystal ball either. I've been looking for years, no joy!
Also interesting that you moan about Layton's dance experience every week, and imply all the others are non-dancers. You never mention that both Angelas (R and S) and Nigel and Ellie all have dance experience.
Nigel is probably benefiting from getting harsher treatment from the judges. Sometimes the public can turn against celebs who are being treated too generously.
The determination in Angela’s face, she gave it her all, she deserved to get through, and Annabel was absolutely Amazing this week again. I can’t stop watching them both this week. They’re not the best dancers but their songs and routines were entertaining, and they progress, people want to see that, that’s why they had such an amazing crowd response, feel good Xx
very true. I heard Shirley say somewhere sometime about I don't remember cos i'm older than James ;-) she scored the couple a point lower as she didn't like the music??? not my favorite or words to that extend..and I thought hmm weird it's about the dance not the music..and I feel this year they score according to a popular song...the first Strictly's like 20 years ago the couples all did the same dance and could choose between a latin or a ballroom, so 8 waltzes and 8 rumbas p.e. and it was nice as you could compare the individual couples but also a little boring. can't remember when that changed but it would be much more fair to the couples
The show needs a format shake up I think. Just something else added to change it. DWTS has jazz maybe use that instead of couples choice. I danced under Peggy spencer and she would of hated couples choice x
I agree, I said from the beginning that as good as he is, he will definitely make the final, but because he is a professional, the public won't let him win.
24:04 , okay, lets do this again. ALL of the remaining contestants have some sort of experience. So you’re not exactly the “fair” judge you claim to be if you only harp on about Layton, and not all of them. Let’s also not forget James (a professional dancer) won Dancing on Ice in 2018. Which is also arguably for novices. Strictly has had experienced contestants since the first series, with Claire Sweeney who was Italia conti trained, just like Layton. Its not new. Strictly is about celebrities learning latin and ballroom. But more importantly, its an entertainment show, its to make people happy. The only reason they didn’t cancel the 2020 series was for the mental health of the nation. Many people have been entertained by Layton and Nikita and they bring joy to the show. I can guarantee you if they had 15 contestants completely clean of dance experience it would collapse within two weeks. Its interesting to have a range of talent. A novice usually wins in the end anyway, so Layton is not a threat. Hes just there to entertain, and as he said he’s doing it for his mum, whos been going through a difficult time lately. You’re allowed to have your opinion and not like Layton, but let’s just be respectful and allow them to enjoy their time on Strictly.
I’m starting to think it’s no longer a ‘professional’ thing. It’s a race and sexuality thing. And they the people including James can deny all they bloody want. I agree with everything you said so why is Layton only getting the stick. What else is missing from the equation?
Totally agree, I've been saying the same... professional dancers won't win. I also agree that it's such a shame that so many celebs now have training of some sort, novices were a better watch in so many ways. A shame, but I will still be an avid fan!
James said Layton won't win Strictly - well why would the public waste their money and time voting for him every week, to ensure he is not in the bottom two? So much of the audience has now invested their time and indeed money into keeping Layton on the show. So saying he won't win, is misjudging just how strong a fanbase Layton has out there. It is big.
@@johnking5174 he also said barring a miracle he will never be in the bottom two because of his position on the leaderboard. Time will tell but I can't see him winning, the public usually allow professionals to get to the final and but not win, we've seen it before
@@johnking5174nonsense. As the voting is 50/50 split all he has to do is not be in the bottom 3 with the public. Up until now, the judges scores have pretty much made it near impossible for him to be lower than that. He’ll be safe until the final because even if he were in the bottom 2 the judges won’t send him home. We’ll see how popular he is in the final as it’s public vote only.
@@beccadeck Also taking into account that in the final the judges scores mean jack sh*t and all of the voting is left to the public, that would make a difference to Layton. My problem is, it is not his fault that the BBC approached him and asked him to be on the show. It is not as if he begged the BBC to put him on, as to be honest, Layton is not a hugely well known celebrity. My mum never heard of him. My boyfriend's parents have never heard of him. So I feel he has been left in a position which is unfair, as it is not his fault he has been professionally trained as a dancer.
I wouldn't have thought, people dont vote just because you are in the bottom two??? I have used all 3 of my online votes for Krishnan, have voted for him every week, sad he went, Angela should have gone. I also dont believe Shirley would have saved him, she just said that to make him feel better.
🎉🎉🎉🎉 exactly tge concept is to progress not to privilege or just put great scores with the one with dances background and or either to put then on dance off
I think Shirley voted for Krisnan to show they don’t always agree but she knew it wouldn’t make any difference to the result her saying to save him. Sad to see him go
@@naimaboukhouf7357 they haven’t got much latin for sure, but their Rumba (a harder dance for sure) was impressive without a doubt, that can’t be denied!!
James u keep mentioning the Layton thing which I totally get but you also went on Dancing on Ice so what’s ur perspective on that. Is that any different ??
I love your comments about the show and it’s a shame that the judges do not show the same common sense. I agree with you that some celebrities are overmarked and others are so obviously under marked!! My favourite of the week was Ellie and Vito. I thought that Leyton and Nikitas dance was brilliant however I would never vote for him purely because he’s a professional and that is unfair. Keep up the good work
NIGEL and Ellie also varied background in dance but the producers and public never mention that. Jay McGuinness, Jill halfpenny were similar to Layton in experience but British public had no problem! I loved Danny Mac but he had a dance background!
wild to think Layton has any kind of advantage considering he's a mixed race flamboyantly gay man in a country that has voted tory for 13 yrs he's never gonna win a lot of people over just cause they will automatically pre judge him, the ringer stuff is a convenient excuse, honestly I think he's very brave to keep going despite the level of abuse he's gotten but I know he's also gotten a lot of stuff from people saying that seeing someone like Layton helped them feel better about themselves/ made them feel like they were going to be okay, it would be great if you could have a little empathy for that while you remind everyone he's a professional dancer (who has clearly struggled with multiple of the dances) its not just about that
Sorry but I also disagree!!! I’ve got nothing against Angela but it’s VERY clear to see the judges are keeping her in to get to Blackpool!!! She was no better than Krishnan & I’m sorry Angela made mistakes again!!! He might not be a finalist but he’s what strict it is all about, he’s pushed & come so far!!! Angela will either out be out this week or definitely next week!!! This show is an absolute joke this year it’s definitely fixed & it shows!!!!! Half of the scoring is not consistent!!!
Angela r has become boring and samey. Every week it seems angela anc carlos get roasted. Glad she got a decent dress shes had some horrendous outfits. Nigel totally channeled his inner gene kelly. Loved their dance. Ellie and vito i love this partnership. Love that annabelle finally let go..... and as for that argentine tango...... goosepimples!
So sad to hear James being once again really negative towards Layton due to his dance experience when other former pros such as Robin Windsor and Kevin Clifton have been so supportive. Layton isn't the only celeb this year with a lot of dance experience and he has less than some people believe he has. There have also been celebs with vast dance experience since day one of this show. And didn't James dance with West End performer Denise Van Outen? 🤷 To me it sadly seems like James is one of the people using Layton's experience as an excuse to not support him when that's actually not the real issue they have.
yep and her dance experience was totally underplayed/ really feeling like bullying at this point he didn't even critique the dance he just ranted about him being in the comp
Exactly. They've had people from stage school and west end performers since series 1. Claire Sweeney went to Italia Conti (like Layton) and had been a west end performer. Layton is an actor who sings and dances rather than a professional dancer, to many people he's best known as a comic actor in BBC three's Bad Education. Layton and Nikita are my favourites (also loved Krishnan and Lauren, but they are out now).
Its hilarious because James won Dancing on Ice, I find it so ironic that he grumps about Layton every week when he was in the same position back in 2018. Nobody said it was unfair that a professional dancer was on DOI back then.
@@Liamxroberts That's a VERY good point. He had an advantage on Dancing On Ice but I supported him and voted for him because he was the best and he was working hard. Same reason I'm voting for Layton now on Strictly. So it really is disappointing to see James attacking Layton each week, very hypocritical of him.
I get what you’re saying but Layton is not a trained ballroom dancer. Also if you’re not anti Layton, just quit talking about it. So repetitive…. Enough!
Really interesting as always. Isn’t it impossible for the judges to mark accurately when they are comparing professional dancers or those with some training against real novices? If they genuinely judged the contestants against each other, Layton would always get 10 and any non dancer 1. So what criteria are they using?
Totally agree with you James with the ridiculous scores for some routines it’s so unfair and yes we shouldn’t have trained dancers it’s supposed to be all about the JOURNEY it was a much better show when you and Ola were on it If only you were on the judging panel then I know we would definitely get the correct scoring
No we wouldn’t, he makes Shirley look like an angel. How can nobody else see his bias? Grumps about the same people every week, holds some contestants accountable for things and doesn’t have the same energy for others, yet he says he’s all about fairness. I would much prefer four Shirleys than him as a judge.
Craig is critical of every performer, and in that way he is fair. Shirley marks down the female contestants: I think most of us would agree with that.@@Liamxroberts
