Wonderful James Last Band!!! I took my father (88) and mother(82) in April 2011 to Royal Albert Hall from my Lisbon hometown to saw James Last Band in a great show!! Thank you James!

@keef71 There is avideo from the same concert here, James Last - Live in London - 1978 - Part 5 (won't let me post a link) His name is Benny Bendorff and played bass in the James Last Orchestra from the early 70's to 2002.
With all due respect, exactly what does this James Last contribute to the performance? The man just stands around waving and clapping his hands, pointing at the audience, making faces and smiling a lot. Which is all very nice, but what does it contribute to the actual performance? The orchestra is not looking at him at all, they all know exactly what to do. Ok I'm sure the arranging is a lot of work, but it still always amazes me that the 'band leader' takes all the credits and receives the applause, while it's the orchestra that does all the work.

He arranges the music. He records the music. He has a unique style. He appears on his album covers. People that listen to james last only know him, they dont know the band members. He is their leader. Of course they are going to applaud him plus as conductor he would have been responsible for rehearsing with the band and giving the instructions on what he wants. That is the conductors job. He is the interpretor and the ensemble will follow their leader. James last also believes In having a good time and will pump the audience and give them a good time
