I've owned a bicycle shop for 29 years, I was impressed with your overall knowledge, though I did notice a few details. The front reflector should be mounted on the Handlebar stem, just above the headset. You do have the some adjustment as to how high or low you would like the H-bars, you've chosen a very low position. I love the simple way you described the way to set the high/lows on the rear derailleur, you did forget to mention that you have those same adjustments for the front also. Derailleur angles are often placed wrong at the factory and almost always need to be changed to allow the chain to move correctly from gear to gear or to allow the proper clearance in the cage of the front Derailleur. I didn't see where you made any mention of "toeing" the brake pads from front to back to eliminate break squeal. Will you at some point attempt to tru a wheel? Most come from the factory with some kind of bend and as you know, this makes it impossible for the brakes to function properly. I truly enjoyed these first 3 episodes and all your years on the show that we dare not name. My son and I are rebuilding a 1991 Nissan 300tt as a project car after completing a 1988 Jaguar xjs convertible for my wife. Your car shows led to a lot of amazing afternoons and evenings under the hood of cars with my son.. Thank you Mr. May
@ClarinoI
@ClarinoI 3 года назад
It doesn't look like there's space on the stem for a bracket. I suspect that that's why there's a bracket that lets you put it on the handlebar itself.
@Mkproduction2
@Mkproduction2 3 года назад
@@ClarinoI You're correct in that there's not enough room now. There's a minimum line on the stem that gives you the least amount of stem that has to engage with the front fork to ensure safety. It also allows you some discretion as to how high you want your h-bars to be above the frame. It appears (I've not built this particular brand of bike before) that Mr. May has chosen to to fully insert the stem into the front fork and not used any of the adjustment allowed. Just a minor thing and preference vary with each bike, but I have built tens of thousands of bikes out of the box or from the frame up and have never mounted a reflector on the H-bars. I don't recall seeing a red rear reflector either. Those are usually mounted on the seat post, the underside of the seat or on the roadside seat stay(left one in America, Right one in the UK)

Couple of years back I found out there's a facility near me that's effectively a ski hill, but for bikes... you get on a chairlift, and they put your bike on a rack on the next chair, so you can grab it when you get to the top and ride down the hill. I watched a video of some people going down, and part of me thought it was awesome, but the rest of me thought about how long it takes bones to knit back together. But then I was hiking down a mountain a few months ago, and slipped on a rock and hit my elbow so hard I _thought_ it was broken, so what do I know.

There is actually very easy way to adjust the brakes to not rubbing. First, adjust cable tension, as done in this video. Next, slightly loosen brake caliber bolts so caliber can move sideways pretty easily, then push and keep brakelever pretty tightly and same time tighten caliber bolts. It centers caliber and brakepads to disk. Btw, awesome videos James, keep it going, i'm a big fan since about 2005 :)
