Twelve years of being a professional bike mechanic, and I still found this very entertaining and strangely therapeutic... He didn’t do everything quite right, but honestly I don’t care. His theory was all pretty sound, and it will still be put together better than the majority of stuff out there. Well done sir!

James fits the brake disc the wrong way round, after touching it with his Lurpack Spreadable covered fingers😬😪

Hi James! Really enjoyed this! :-) A few important notes though: Front disc is on backwards. (yes they can be on backwards) The front brake tube is dropping down the wrong way. (it will rub on the tyre when turning if it stays where it is) It needs to go in front of the head tube where the other tubes are. And a small technical detail, The steer tube, (which you called a stem) is not tapered on this fork set. It's the head tube on the frame that's tapered. Honestly not having ago or criticising. I'm a bike fanatic and just want the kids bike to be right, and maybe he can learn some stuff about it so he can maintain it himself, and ride safely. Keep doing your thing though, and looking forward the the next episode!! :-) (P.S. Are you planning another model railway program??)

:) as relaxing as watching a baking program making some common cookies. Mildly amusing, calm and witty jokes and sometimes details and remarks no one asked for (like garnish on top) but still is just that: the cherry on top :P

I really dont care how I interesting or mundane an object may be ... if James is working on it while he talks to us, I'll watch it. James May, Guy Martin & Sir David Attenborough... my three favorite "narrators".

Few things MR May, -Front disk is on the wrong way around -Put the bike on the floor, loosed the axles and push down on the front end and the rear to seat the wheels in before any brake adjustment. -Be sure to grease the internals of the pedals and attention to the left and right pedals with the left being a reverse thread. -Be sure to check the limiter screws on the derailleurs and inflate the tyres properly .

I've never thought about it but yes a bicycle is probably the most exciting gift.

James, The disc is on the wrong way, they have rotation arrows etched on them. Handles of this type are usually 5nm. Please re-route that front brake so that its out front. Happy to be of assistance!

Fantastic video! Love it! I just finished retro modding a 1977 peugeot PR 10(531 reynolds) with a modern shimano 10 speed cassette. I had to cold set the frame which I did myself. Built from frame and forks up! I love learning and building bikes.

Builds bycyle "mehh" With james may "click it"

If I'm not mistaken the front disk was put on the wrong way. The forces while braking will cause the disk to want to shrink towards the hub how it is currently orientated. Usually there is text/etching on the disk which shows which way should face away from the wheel. All of my disks have been this way. I have used, BBS, Shimano, tektro, and TRP disks in the past which all have the "spokes" of the disk pointing forwards in order to counter the forces created while braking. Cheers from South Africa!

I really enjoy watching May doing stuff - I honestly have no idea why but there it is, trains, aircraft, bikes of any kind and in fact anything mechanical or electrical i guess - perhaps its because he is just so pedantic and fussy, i really don't know but it is very satisfying to watch. with that being said - food, not so much. :) anyway take care out there everyone - over and out

I love how what was a joke about how boring james may is that he made a documentary about bicycle maintenance, but it's actually a thing now non the internet and also I find it really interesting to watch. I have no use for a bike or space but I could watch this for hours.

A bike is cool and all, but a bike assembled by THE Assembler himself......well thats just all the beans mate The irony is also that i built one bike for myself today, and am in the process if building one for my girlfriend...clearly bikes are popular

Love it! Mechanical disc brakes are spring loaded so no worries of the pads not returning if you pull the lever with the wheel off! 👍🏼
