It's probably for safety reasons. At the moment it's actuated hydraulically so there would be no safety precautions to make sure you won't get stuck. It's a prototype after all.

@@KPX-nl4nt Yep, I don’t think the batteries have a chance against 2000hp of electric motors. The rest of the 24 hours will be the recharging ;) PS: I know fast chargers are quicker than that now days but the point still stands that this may well spend more time on the charger than moving.

I am not into full electric but the design of this car is STUNNING! Its a sculpture on wheels. I keep looking at it and going "It should have a Ferrari badge". I hate the fact that hypercars today are produce in such ridiculously small numbers.

I gotta say, I love this bit. It has that magic feel of an honest petrol heads perspective on it and the charm of Mr. May. Tesla’s first was built on a lotus this is really nice work from lotus and not surprising we are the best engineers in Norfolk , my dad invented interrupt quenching for Cooper bearings when the the huge bearing races were made there . He also developed a piston vale idea took it to all the important place , a very interesting story .

weird for Lotus, every car I've heard of from them were low powered with incredible handling, this is the first production Lotus I've heard of with over 450hp from the factory and I bet it handles like a dream just like their other cars
