@Jaegar Ultima we only live in the real world bc in the womb we are not considered human and can be aborted bc we are blobs, not fully formed and a woman has the right to get rid of the blob or parasite called pregnancy that is in her body.
You can really tell which interviewers have actually seen and appreciated the films and which ones are simply reading q-cards and just doing their jobs
Yeahh and what the hell, now it's midnight and for the third bloody night in a row I'm like "I DON'T NEED SLEEP, I NEED ANSWERS." He's just so fantastic. 😂 I'm really moved, if you like, by him as a person. I've watched numerous interviews, all kinds, even read the whole collection of quotes from him on a site *cringes* 😂
he's right about the fact that obviously the film is talking about specific individuals, not DID as a whole. BUT the problems arises when ALL the films regarding DID perpetuates the same thing. Therefore people start to only see DID as something dangerous. Its the same thing that happens when you portray any minority- that because there's fewer characters that represent that, there's more pressure to have them represent everyone within that community. Which is impossible, and also not what anyone wants because then they're not a character that represents a real person. Its a difficult one, you want people to have artistic licence and not get bogged down by political correctness, but at the same time its disheartening to see every movie perpetuate the same negatives about your community. Negatives that can and do happen, but dont happen as frequently as movies suggest
So glad james talked about that, how he hopes this doenst make people with DID upset or misrepresented into a negative light, but rather that you can be a “badass” regardless of ANY condition
We aren't offended by it we just want it made clear that it's more common for someone with DID to be a victim of a violent crime (after the childhood trauma that caused the disorder) than commit one and I'm fine with the movie being made we just asked the Mcavoy make a quick PSA about how generally people with DID are not dangerous because so many of us (myself included) have experienced discrimination based on the fear people have of DID and since the split trailers have come out it's gotten worse. We respect that it is art but the community would like to know how the Stars plan to respond to our petition asking for a PSA (that received over 16,000 signatures)
I think they made it pretty clear to the people who were actually paying attention to the movie, have basic empathy and knowledge though. the main character was visiting the psychiatrist as a troubled victim, the movie showed he had an abusive father and mother, etc. I get that people are quick to demonize (trust me, I know) anything and everything, especially when it's associated with mental ilnesses but... those people will still do that even if the PSA was printed on the cover of every DVD if you get what I mean... the movie itself really didn't demonize the DID and it clearly showed it was the anger and pain of about 4 characters that caused trouble - and even they weren't like "100% evil villians" type of characters
Well one of the main quotes in the movie says "the broken are the more evolved". That includes people with DID and Anya Taylor-Joy's character who doesn't have DID, she just suffered from abuse and hence she was broken too. The movie was trying bridge the gap between people of all kinds of suffering not just people with DID. In fact you should look at the movie once more and see how in the end Anya realizes in some ways she feels empathetic towards Jame's character because both he and her share the same feeling of brokenness.
I've seen Split recently..and my mind was blown..such a deep movie..lots and lots of meaning hidden in it..and Mr.Mcavoy did it perfectly,it's a shame he didn't win an Oscar for it P.S: great interview👍
Thanks James! I have DID and I loved the portrayal of this. We know it isn’t real so could at least have a good laugh and say YES!!! Finally people can start to know and understand our disorder.!!
WOW! I am genuinely so impressed with his philosophies, ideals, and morals about how this movie was an okay thing to make and how powerful it is in addition to it being a wonderful piece of work, very thrilling, and an absolute showcase of talent! Thank you James McAvoy
I love this interview james...good explanation about film charactor psycology... Your work is exceptional. Im a huge fan...so thanx james for providing amazing work...x
Am i the only one the ending of spilt made me cry bc i felt sorry for kevin and glass awh THAT WAS FUCKING heart breaking still havent gotten over that
I have DID and i just feel like thanks to the movie more people knows about it and it's not scared of people who suffers from DID and I just love the movies.
HEY ARI !! I LOVED THE MOVIE TOO AND I THINK ALMOST EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH THIS MOVIE AND BE AWARE OF DID !!AND I AM SURE YOUR OTHER PERSONALITIES ARE AMAZING TOO
If the people whom work at the hook happen to meet James McAvoy again, could you pass on the message that I have did, and this is my favourite film. Because more importantly than questions about villains. The film showed, his acting showed that each individual alter was a completely different person, and that will have a greater positive effect than any effect it could have on misinformed people becoming fearful.
Best performance I've ever seen. You deserved to win all the awards for Split. You changed personalities brilliantly. Love all the facial expressions, especially love the lisp for Hedgewick. I think that's his name if I remember correctly.
Omg James played an amazing role on 24 personalities! And he is so handsome!! And glass was amazing as well if you did not see it I say gotta go see it ! It was a great movie !
It looks so scary. The girl in it was in The VVITCH. (has to be V V on purpose) She was amazing in that. I may wait until DVD. I can hide behind cushions at home.
Brian Cox is a much respected and incredibly versatile actor here in Scotland so I'd assume they are half joking and half being serious with regard to the respect they have for him.
I agree, people with disabilities can either be a superhero or a villian. Just as anyone else can. I agree with James though, it's pure entertainment and honestly I will guarentee anyone who watches it will not think anything about his problem. Very few people actually know people with DID anyways. I know I don't. They will just focus on the fact that he's just a villian, a good looking villian, but just a villian like any other villian in any superhero movie. I'm sorry I never got a chance to see this at the movie theaters, but can't wait for the dvd in 7 more days ( April 18, 2017)
I want to see this in theaters by myself, because I am sure my boyfriend won't want to see it. Should I see it in theaters or should I wait for redbox?
We all think we are, basically, good people, oh but we all have our demons inside and we are all malevolent in some degree, so no, this movies does not demonize anyone, with or without DID, because, one way or another, we are all broken inside, in our own particular way.
He's really asking why our illness can't be used to be the subject matter of a supervillain movie? Really? Because that's entirely the stigma surrounding DID. It's not that we have a problem that this ONE movie is made about someone with DID being a villain. It's not. It's about every movie about DID ever made has ALWAYS villainized us and given people the wrong idea about DID. People with DID already have a hard enough time getting 1. people to believe them and 2. people to understand they're not psychos. And it's not just that. It's the subtle messages this movie is portraying about DID that make it distasteful. For example, that DID is obvious to those around you all the time, that it is always a drastic change, that it has both "evil" and "good" characters, etc. If you don't have DID, you wouldn't understand this. If DID was not already heavily stigmatized and misunderstood, I guarantee you none of us would care this movie existed. It's because it's perpetuating an already pretty well-rooted stigma. I understand his reasoning, but I wish he would have done a little more research into the very specific DID struggle before he justified it to himself.Hopefully I'm wrong on this though. Maybe the majority of people will take an interest in this illness and do their own research and find out the truth about it. Maybe it will turn out to be something good. I definitely hope so, but so far, it hasn't looked too good.
Ashton Wood watched an interview where he said he sought education from professionals but he wasn't well received so he self educated watching mostly RU-vid videos of people with DID
All movies about mental dissorders give people wrong ideas. For example in Grey's anatomy a guy attacks Grey after he had an epileptic seuzure. But that is extreme example. I never attacked anyone after a seizure. so don't worry too much.People will think whatever they like about persons with DID or other dissorders whether they watch this kind of movies or not
I agree with your point, but I just want to call you on using "psycho." I know people who are high on the PCL-R, and it is also a disorder that can present challenges in people's lives and they also face discrimination and fear
So wait.... DID is real? Seems James McAvoy thinks so. Last I knew APA and psych journals said no. I, myself, have no idea... wish I knew (not firsthand though lolololol)
DID, previously known as Multiple Personality Disorder, exists in people who have suffered severe trauma or abuse growing up. Trauma at such a young age really messes up your perception of self/identity, as well as your perception of safety, wellness, and others. So even though the illness is super rare, it exists. And don't always trust APA or other sources that claim to be based in science...we live in a world that teaches unproven evolutionary science and the unproven existence of "gay" genes. And let's not discuss the fact that homosexuality and transexuality are no longer seen as psychological disorders, despite the fact that there are plenty of people who used to be a part of those demographics and would 100% agree that they would have been better off with counseling or therapy before being lied to and manipulated.
