Well, that's a win-win. In my 70s, I spent much of this last winter in outdoor clothes under a duvet. Most of my neighbours are in a similar position. The difference between us is that most of them would vote Conservative (again!) at the drop of a hat. They would happily freeze and starve just as long as 'millions of immigrants' aren't allowed to arrive every single day, and we aren't being 'ruled' by the EU. It used to be simply pathetic. Now it's dangerous.

Yup my gas and leccy is double what it was mortgage up council tax up food up everything up apart from my wages. In fact because of a downturn in the electronics industry in this country I got made redundant last week start a new job on Monday but it's a huge drop in wages. Brexit and general Tory incompetence has destroyed this country the terrifying thing for me as a Scot is the English will do this to us again I thought after Thatcher they would have learned but no it's a sickness in them or something.

The real kick in the teeth was that during the Scottish independence referendum the threat of losing EU membership if we left the UK was a major factor. We were told the only way to remain in the EU was was to remain in the UK which then promptly dragged us out of the EU. We were also told we could hold a 2nd referendum if there was a change in circumstances. Being dragged out of the EU was a major change in circumstances but we were then denied the right to hold a 2nd referendum to leave and rejoin the EU despite independence support being over 50% during the Boris Brexit debacle.

I've volunteered (that is work for anyone reading this who believes work is only considered work if you are getting paid the man) at a foodbank and Avacados were never on the manifest. They rot a lot quicker than other foodstuffs. About half the stuff that is donated by waste departments in the big stores is beyond human consumption. Obviously, that stuff is binned. And just to emphasize my disgust at our societal allocation of sustenance; I've spent years working in services and when seeing how much is wasted on those restaurant plates the reality of apathy among the middle class and up is sickening. The trope that there are Ethiopians dying of hunger in Africa was apparently only ever said to us poor folk.

The problem is that people are already buying the lowest “value beans” and other cheapest of possible foods, and yet they still can’t afford to get enough food to eat. Dale’s facetious response was almost an endorsement of the lie that starving people are just “bad with money”.
