James O'Brien shuts down “dangerous” caller who refuses to quarantine after her holidays | LBC

This caller has four holidays planned and she will not be quarantining after any of them and James O'Brien told her that position was "stupid" and "profoundly dangerous".
Croatia and Greece are the latest countries reported to be on the verge of being removed from the "travel corridor" list, meaning anyone returning from holidays there would have to quarantine for two weeks.
That would hit hundreds of thousands of Brits currently there, leaving them unable to go back to work and school.
James was asking people for their stories of quarantining - how many are taking it very seriously.
But he wasn't expecting a call from Jennifer. She's got four holidays booked, including a cruise around Spain. And she insisted she would not quarantine because the risk of Covid has been exaggerated.
James told her: "This isn't funny any more. This is really irresponsible, please take more care of yourself and your husband.
"Even if you don't care about anybody else, other people care about you."

I know right, she's pretty much blaming the millions around the world who have either contracted or died of COVID19 for ruining her holiday plans, cause of course how could they be so selfish..... Also if she's retired (so elderly) she's in one of the highest risk groups, so if she does go on holiday, gets infected and comes back and spreads it around by not quarantining; the NHS is already stretched trying to deal with COVID but she's happy to increase the number of people infected so long a she gets to go on a cruise.

Sounds actually pretty smart since it's not real. Proof? Where are flu lockdowns in history? Never, and it's been proven the death toll, even the fake one being pushed isn't as high as flu death. You'd have to be pretty dumb at this point to think any of this is real.

At the start of the pandemic I remember a BBC story about a young woman who was interviewed about taking regular holidays and was quoted as saying "I'm entitled to travel". She remained anonymous knowing that her opinion would upset others. I felt like there was a lot of people who shared her views at the time which was so sad and frustrating to see. A lot of people struggled to look around and consider the wider issues and just focused on how inconvenient covid and lockdowns were on their social lives. I'm looking forward to moving into a world post-covid but I think I'll always remember the stupidity and selfishness of others during this time.

We had our four year old daughter quarantined for two weeks because of a COVID case in her kindergarden. It’s no fun to incarcerate your child for such a period. The pandemic causes hardship for all of us, most for those who lose a loved one to the disease. Hearing that some people just don’t care makes me angry.

Wish I could afford to go on holiday 4 times in as many months. Must be great. As for the quarantine I still don't understand why they have deadlines. Covid doesn't wait. Should have no notice whatsoever and if you happen to be in Spain or France or wherever it's announced that's on you. You go away you run the risk of quarantine. It's that simple.

I had a cashier at our supermarket (October 2021) who is unvaccinated and not wearing a mask. I'm fully vaxed and had my mask on (ability to catch and spread without know I'm sick = mask!) During the conversation she brought up politics. lol of course. Then said her other job is working with the elderly so she gets tested weekly but will NOT ever get a vaccine. She also insisted she had Covid way before they found it here (in 2020) and is immune now. Then said her grandmother has cancer, but if she gets covid and dies, they'll put down Covid to boost the deaths and to get more money. I told her that if her grandmother did not catch Covid she would live longer...no response, just began repeating what she said before.

I have coworkers who feel the same way . They took trips to Las Vegas and Mexico and right after Thanksgiving almost a hundred and sixty people at my job tested positive including myself. I stopped quarantine and I am very careful outside of work

The caller is obviously one of those over-pensioned suburban 70-somethings whose whole life revolves around day-trips to local garden centres in-between cruises. Garden centres forced to close, cruises cancelled - because of a PANDEMIC - and their world falls apart.

@Eve Oakley I agree in principle. However this woman is retired and, listening to her tell the world how many holidays she was planning, clearly she isn't reliant on pension credit. She gets paid whether she quarantines or not.

I've not had a holiday in 2020 and ill be lucky if I get a holiday in 2021 but you know what im ok with that because the beach will still be there in a years time. I'm also not really comfortable having a holiday knowing my colleagues are still fighting Covid-19 up and down the country all over the world. Do us a favour eh, stop ya whinny ways do as your told so we can all have holidays

Never forget people like this, who for them the pandemic was nothing more than an inconvenience. A lot of people actively worked to undermine the rules that were designed to keep people safe and were incapable of reflecting on their actions. I'm looking forward to moving into a world post-covid but I think I'll always remember the stupidity and selfishness of others during this time.
