What a fantastic tradition. I used to work in a small town in Germany named Wedel on the banks of the River Elbe, about 10 miles downstream from the Port of Hamburg. There was a signal station that played the national anthem (on very loud speakers) of every foreign flagged vessel over 300 tonnes entering or leaving the port.
Well look at it this way- picture how much water a vessel of this size displaces. Imagine how much that water weighs, now compare that to the weight of the ship
