Actor James Remar who played roles such as Richard Wright (Samantha's boss) in SATC & Harry Morgan in Dexter surprises a Japanese reporter with his multilingual skill. Interviewer: @interviewerkaoru
Because everyone on the internet is a musclebound genius who bench presses 600lbs, has a 180 point IQ, and knows every language there is to know. They TOTALLY didn't get bullied at school, and they TOTALLY aren't doormats who look downward when they pass people in the streets.
@@MNGN101 So you're another of these geniuses who can go from English to perfect Japanese without missing a beat, eh???? Did you save a damsel in distress from an attack by a grizzly bear on your way home before you wrote this message, too????
@@STEJTHEGREATEST No, I don't speak Japanese at all, what's your problem? The interviewer said he spoke perfect Japanese and people decide to correct her. Why tf are you so mad?
Love this guy. Remar is a criminally underrated actor, some awesome performances over the years. Fired as the lead in ‘Aliens’ because of a drug habit, but hot clean and has had a distinguished career since.
That's crazy because I always thought Michael Biehn was always meant to be Cpl. Hicks since he was Cameron's lead before as Kyle Reese in Terminator. But it makes sense since Walter Hill (who directed The Warriors) was also the producer for the original Alien and co-wrote Aliens had chosen him to play Hicks.
Not just the drugs but the fact that he was so high that he accidentally fired a shot into the set of the film Little Shop of Horrors that was filming next door.
0:25 “You’re fluent right?” “Excuse me” “Awesome, your Japanese is good” “Oh thank you, I don’t understand anything at all, I only speak a little bit. Really really” “Awesome, he’s understanding me”
Why are people getting so upset about this? The guy has some basic conversation skill in a language he is not supposed to know, how is that a bad thing? I'm not a native but is pronounciation wasn't all that bad. Get over it.
You couldn't be more wrong. She asked him first why he could speak the language, and that's when he replied "I don't know (why I speak it). I don't know. I don't know why at all."
Fuofu I know. I am fully aware he said his wife is Japanese. My comment was about the wrong translation found in the original comment above. I gave, in my opinion, a better translation given the context of what is said in the video.
Wow! Japanese is one of my most favorite languages ever. I'm planning to learn how to speak it very soon, and hopefully, I can speak as much as James here! 😁🇯🇵
I've been studying Japanese for 8 months and I can somewhat understand the conversation: - こんばんは (konbanwa): good evening. - お元気ですか (o genki desu ka): how are you? - 知らないわかりません。全然わかりません (shiranai wakarimasen, zenzen wakarimasen): I don't know, I don't understand. I have no idea. - ありがとうございました (arigatou gozaimashita): thank you. - だから、奥様日本人です (dakara, okusama wa Nihon jin desu): well, my wife is Japanese. The reporter compliments him with 日本語上手ですね (nihongo jouzu desu ne): your Japanese is great.
@@reynaldoflores4522 no shit mate. English is a globally recognised language and Japanese is not, plus she’s a reporter so obviously her English would be better than his Japanese.
@@davidthorpe3122 I beg your pardon. Japanese ( 日本語 ) " ニホンゴ " is " not a globally recognized " language unlike English? FYI, Japanese is universally considered as one of the top 10 prestige languages of the world!!!
As an interviewer having a guest surprise you with a skill, you show surprise once and throw a compliment then allow the guest to proceed (whether they continue or slow down showing their skill) and take it from there. Here, you've shown surprise and disbelief about ten times in 50 seconds. In fact, so much that your guest is repeating your surprise at the end (it's not good when a guest repeats a host. It shows discontinuation of the conversation). Anyway, I mean this comment with good intentions (and also being a linguist I specifically care about meeting of languages). It's cool that you were there meeting stars and I wish you the best. That looks like a fun day and thank you for sharing.
