(2/2) A brand new lighting video to see in the New Year (or at least watch while you're getting ready to go out to the pub)...
I'm back with a special New Year's Eve edition, where I'm having a look at another state-of-the-art moving head (give or take 15 years) - the Martin MAC 500, and making more terrible jokes.

Cracking video man. I almost died after laughing so much. I currently own a Martin Rush Scanner 1 LED and a Rush MH6 Wash CT. I have 8 LED pars, 2 chasers, 1 moving spot, 2 wash movers, 1 moonflower.

Haha thanks mate - glad you enjoyed it. Ooh i've always been a fan of wash moving heads, those martin rush one's are very nice. The MACs that were in this video and the other one (the 600) are sadly long gone as they weighed a ton and were a bugger to move around! But I did love using them, great lights, iconic of their time.

I have a bit of a story on how I got both Martin lights. I went to a showcase that Martin were doing back in February 2019. We managed to get in contact with a few of the guys there and they said that they would hook me up with some merch and potentially a few lights. The merch arrived in May but the lights didn't arrive. My father got in touch with Martin saying that my birthday was coming up soon and asked if there was anything they could give me. On the 10th of October (my birthday) a package arrived at our house. I got back from school and found this massive package from Martin with both a Rush MH6 wash CT and a Rush Scanner 1 LED.

You're too kind! I've been trying to do a new one all year but we've run out of lights haha! Earlier this year I was going to be buying some more ancient Martin mac moving heads...but I was too sensible, saved my money and that put an end to a new video! I'm afraid there won't be a new lighting video this year, but I may well be back in 2015 with more! Thanks for watching them though and I'm glad you like them! James

***** Now there's an idea! Hmm... I have been wanting to do a video with old lights...actually I suppose that's what I have been doing haha! I might have to go off and buy some old 80s tat by way of research...

Have you had a look at the menu on the mac's display Josh? Scroll to 'PTSP' on the display (pan/tilt speed) and press Enter. This allows you to change the setting between FAST ('optimise for speed') and SLOW ('optimise for smoothness') - perhaps one of your lights is on SLOW and needs changing? We had a similar problem with one of these 500s and it was this simple fix that sorted it. If not, check that, under SPEC, then MODE, that the setting is 'NORM' - you can change this setting between NORM and STUD (STUDIO) - studio setting means it will try and operate more quietly, and this could also be slowing the movement down. I hope this helps! James

Im having some issues with my Mac 500 fixtures, when inputting DMX into one of them it moves really really slowley VIA dmx signals, but on demo modes its moving perfectly fast. Ive tried hard reset,cables everything its just not doing it

Haha! - these macs came off ebay! They're quite old! I haven't really used solaris network but it seems like a good place to get some good value gear! James
