I remember once reading that he'd expressed disbelief that he sounded like Rusty Venture in real life. My guess is that he honestly believes himself to be sounding like himself in regular life and doing his best Tony Randall impersonation when talking about being waylaid by jackassery.

I like that I know him as Dr. Thaddeus "Rusty" Venture. He can go to extremes of deadpan and whiny diva. And it is always evil Wil Wheaton, Sheldon optional.
