This is why as an American viewer, I believe that Graham Norton is one of the best... if not THE BEST TV interviewer today. Nothing in the US compares. He knows when to interject, but most importantly knows when to shut up.

I really like how Graham Norton and his audience listen to Jamie Fox share his story. Graham listens the whole time, shows his engagement, and brings the topic up in the most courteous and interested way. And the audience’s silence and well-timed applause impressed me bc if this was an American talk show (which is more like 99% comedy bits and party games), the American audience would probably laugh inappropriately. Or the host would interrupt or say something in a fake manner

Yeah. Me, too. I remember being told to walk down this long hallway. I did. I didn’t know what to do though, there was no one around. I opened the door the hallway lead to. I was stunned. I opened the only door and it was like being in a movie. The light were fimmed. I felt like I was in a movie. Everything looked high tech. There was a row of glassed FCU licked where you sit don and the inmate meets you on the other side. Maybe 6. Yet I was the only person there. No guards. No inmates and visitors sitting across from each other. I was bewildered. I walked to the last ‘booth’ and I could see the cells. Maybe 4 stories. And it was so quiet. Then , my pops hobbles in eventually. It was s shocking. He became so sick there. He wasn’t being given his medication . He’d aged 10 years in just a week. He was so mistreated by the guards. He was in his mid seventies. It was his death sentence. Myrdal fallen asleep behind the wheel. Prescription medication and alcohol. Not a high amount of alcohol by any means, year there was some in his system. When I saw him I barely recognized him. I wasn’t able to save his life. But that moment of seeing him, so worn down. Suck. Taken for granted and advantage of. I died a little bit that day. He sat in his chair. I opposite. And we did what you see in movies. Put our hands against each other through the glass, both with tears streaming downs our cheeks. I know he was so ashamed. I was …. Devastated. My pops. He looked at me with this look I am not going to try to describe. And he said, Hey Tiger. Hey Pops. I love you. My life and his, they changed that day. I understand.

Graham Norton is one of the best for the simple reason that he let his guest to talk and tell their story with minimal guidance. He give them space to talk freely, without interrupting.
