True. It’s amazing how Jamie’s entire story arc sees him being stripped of his ego and his self imposed identity (as one of the best swordsman ever) and you can see him for who he really is. He’s actually a really solid dude but I feel all the Lannisters are raised and indoctrinated with this superiority complex and Cersei was the most driven by that complex because she ended getting SO deep into the “game” of politicking and power whereas Jamie did not and Tyrion didn’t because he was shunned by the world so he developed his mind to be able to play the game while preserving his humanity.

Nah. That look is the other "oh" look. The "oh" look is Jamie's realization the his move was exactly what his father planned for. He did exactly what Tywin expected and wanted.
@@battleboat12 Yes, because that is exactly the sort of deal Papa Lannister wants, and as we see when he negotiates with Lady Olenna, Lord Tywin does not play games. He goes straight to the point. He saw a good deal, and he accepted it, no convincing/begging/cajoling needed. His hatred of Tyrion pales before his desire for Jaime to succeed him as Lord of Casterly Rock, Shield of Lannisport, etc.
I didn't get that part in the series, but in the books it is clear that Tywin let Cersei manipulate the trial, but he didn't tell her to do so. The one who was pissing off Tyrion was Cersei, Tywin let Shae speak because it was what he had and let's give him credit, he thought Tyrion wouldn't be that stupid to actually fall in love with a whore.
@@kage3587 I’m pretty sure aside from Jaime, Tyrion’s uncle (gerion) and aunt (forgot her name) also tolerate him. Hell only Joffrey hates him, the other two kids also seem to like him

Respectfully intended, but that wasn't what happened, Tywin was manipulating the scenario. He always wanted Jamie to put down his kingsguard cloak and resume being his heir. He knew Jamie didn't want to see Tyrion die, he always was the only one who cared for Tyrion. The look of shock on his face is because he realized that's what Tywin was waiting for him to say.

I mean, that was the only way. He would need to confess because Cersei manipulated the trial amd you can't just indult a regicide, it was going to be the same as Ned Stark. Of course Tyrion was innocent but the public eye really thought he killed Joffrey.

@@owenleal whatever Tyrion's fate afterwards Jaimie bargained for a stay of execution. The old man twisted it to his advantage but Tyrion would have had to accept exile regardless I think to prevent bloodshed.

@@AAO-92 right, i just meant no matter how much he seemed to hate Tyrion, he still saw him as his family, unlike Cersei who saw him as nothing but a monster his whole life and would kill him without hesitation
The brotherly relationship between Tyrion and Jaime is one of my absolute favorites in the whole show. In that extremely fucked up family that relationship is so genuine & wholesome. It really reminds me of my relationship with my younger brother. We're very close. Always have been always will be.
@@ccirish4519 Tywin is a person of pure logic. And he values the name of "Lennister" the most. Remarrying himself wouldn't be as beneficial for the name "Lennister" since he is the leader of Casterly Rock, the strategist mastermind of his army, house and allies and always involved of the kings doings. Remarrying his children (Cersei to Robert, Tyrion to Sansa) , which he see's as dissappointments who can't do anything positive for the name of Lennister, will give him more power due to the new alliences and bringing the name Lennister into the King's family and into the north.
My guess is that Tywins plan was to just wrap everything up in a neat little bow under Cercei's nose. He likely knew it was the Tyrells, but also knew he needed them and that Cercei would fuck it up trying to kill them all.
I don't think he knew it was the Tyrells and what's more Joffrey was a terror so he probably didn't care to know who it was. A king that hated-anybody could've done it.
Oh Hey knew... He knew Mother Tyrell so we'll... He was just too blind to see his own daughter. She fucked it all up, and he sits at that trial in anger knowing Cercei, who's supposed to be his good little daughter, betrayed him.
I think I heard somewhere Kevan didn’t hate him either… also Tommen and Marcella weren’t bad to him… really Joffrey, Tywin and Cersei treated him the worst and even with the latter two there was some respect or trust given
I think what I like about Dance’s performance here is that he displays Tywin’s plan perfectly, but he does affect genuine surprise when Jaime offers it. Almost a “Well, I had contingencies in place, but this is the perfect outcome.” Very Tywin.
Tywin in the books is basically a super powerful bully who extorts and murders everyone in his way, much like the mountain in the riverlands. Dance's performance carries so much authority and charisma that it makes tywin seem like a calculating beast.
Tywin’s continuation of his family name trumped everything else. He would’ve probably given his own life if it 100% guaranteed his name would strongly live on.
If you read the books you will come to realize, Jamie is probably the most tragic character of them all. Everything he did he did for his family, all the evil was done out of love, and he's been manipulated his entire life. The saddest part is when he really comes to the realization that his whole family has just been manipulating him, compromising his honor, and making him do vile things. But he continues to do so, it's even though he knows they're evil he loves them.
@@icynishia1723 she seduced him. He was brash, egotistical and narcissistic. But she was cunning. If you want to truly understand him you have to read the books. There's a lot of stuff in the show that just makes absolutely no sense until you read the books and then your mind is blown. The books are available on RU-vid for free as an audiobook. It is roughly 120 hours long but immensely worth it.
Jamie is the only one who added 'baby' to his brother and agitated when someone say he hurts Tyrion or hurts Tyrion in front of him. Shows how he truly loves his siblings and family.
Its crazy how Tywin gets Shae involved in the trial because of his personal hatred of Tyrion when everything would've been fine if he didn't cross that line Tyrion would've been exiled to the Wall and be completed out of thr picture while Jamie would leave the Kingsguard and be the future of House Lannister which is what Tywin always wanted Not to mention that Oberyn Martell doesn't die in trial by combat and Princess Marcella is married to Prince Trystane which makes one of the most hostile kingdoms an ally of the Lannisters when they're also linked by marriage to the Tyrels with their allies in the Freys and Boltons in charge of the North and Riverlands with Littlefinger being the de facto lord of the Vale as well. All of that could've been secured if Tywin wasn't so petty towards Tyrion
Charles Dance was utterly convincing as Tywin. I never once watched him and consciously thought I was watching an actor play a part. He simply WAS Tywin.
Why is everybody acting like it’s a good thing? Jamie is trying to bargain for tyrions life. A fair trade would be Jamie as heir for a full pardon of Tyrion. But sending Tyrion to the wall. Where he would lose all claim to title and fame. Is a death sentence in itself. Tyrion said it himself. If I wasn’t the son of a great lord they would have killed me at birth. So what is going to happen to him when he loses the protection of his name? This is not Tywin providing mercy. This is Tywin providing a much slower more merciless death. And Jamie is too halfwitted to see through it
This whole plot was Awesome. It shows how much both brothers loved each other, in that Jaime was willing to do the one thing he hated to save his brother, and Tyrion would rather die with his honor than be a pawn for Tywin who made his brother give up his whole life and pride for him. And it also shows how fucking badass Tyrion was.
He did hate Tyrion. But he cared about legacy more than anything else. Tyrion was still Tywin's son too, so he didn't actively want to kill the imp, especially given he was probably innocent.
The last time a former Hand of the King was promised to be spared if he plead guilty for a crime he didn't commit.... he got killed anyway. Tyrion was wise not to repeat Ned Starks mistake and play the Lannisters game again.
Great scene, shows how Tywin does not even care for justice, he just wants Tyrion away from him. And when a better deal appeared he took it with no doubt
