For me it's the mix, mostly. But of course it's also the sound selection and the playful sequencing. But a lot of people put their hand to the latter, while it's the former that truly elevates the entire approach and reveals a chaotic yet extremely palatable presentation. And it's that resulting dissonance that reveals an almost euphoric contradiction that makes my brain giggle with delight.

This was my immediate thought too! It's a little different than your typical afrobeat, but very much in line with that specific south african twist on it with the snare rhythm. Do you know if that south african beat has a specific name? my cursory google searches haven't turned up anything

The thing is he does it so well that it never sounds like a pastiche or poor imitation, more like he's pulling from a variety of styles that he is a fan of. House, ragga, UK breakbeat, amapiano and more. It's like a distillation of the music styles that have been heard in UK clubs of the past 3 decades. His tracks are varied in style and influence yet they always have a clubby vibe and his beats are always on point. I think he's a great producer.
