Not a fan to be honest. The instrumental here doesn't follow the chord progression, which is vital for the vocal melody to sound good. The production is great but I'm just not feeling this.
davidtomamusic Sometimes simplicity is key. What... Do you expect him to sit for a month and make a track so technical that it doesn't need to be? You want over compression or over processed effects that it muddies up a track? Nah man. It's good, he knew whats up.
Dan Snow When we are talking 'Loud Places' having sampled Idris Muhammad's "Could Heaven Ever Be Like This" and kinda resembled EBTG's "Tracey In My Room", well, yeah... I kind of expected a month's work in a remix by John Talabot that would be sold on a 12" single for over £7. Sounds like a quality gin & tonic is far more exciting than this.
Helena Koursou If it takes a whole month to make a quality remix, either you must not know your equipment enough or writers block. Once the workflow comes, it doesn't matter how long it takes, it all depends on the workflow. Doesn't matter who it is being remixed. Some people it is easier to write something and others takes longer. This track needed simplicity because it were over complicated, it would ruin the vibe of the vocals.
I wasn't saying that I hate it or something, but If an artist has the potential to make other artist's songs better, It's better to choose a song/artist that really needs it. By saying that I mean that In this particular case, Jamie XX was not the one!
TheMad Lion I dont think John Talabot's intention was to make it "better" per se. Not every remix is to make a song better. This remix changes the vibe of the song entirely, it is a different emotion. I would not really think of this as adding cheap perfume to roses, but making a bouquet out of the roses.
TheMad Lion The point of a remix isn't to make a song better. You make remixes so different djs can play it in different clubs. This is a track for a big room house dj to play at 3am. The original isn't really good for that.
This is mediocre for Young Turks. If this was just another generic "reconstruction" on youtube is wouldn't get a look in. The hype from the names will carry this.
19karl16 Could not agree more. It is like John Talabot was messing around with an acid instrumental and he just inserted the acapella of 'Loud Places' in it for a low budget popular remix to do everyone a favour. There is actually a better remix than this by TOD but it must be unreleased. I heard it at Nteibint's latest mix for Purple sneakers if you look it up you can hear it in there.
What's the point of releasing a shitty remix? Fair enough if a remix is better than the original (which is rare but happens) but this shit just made me want to hear the original
definite party material I do. Because it really is shitty either we are talking different music style/more acidic or not. It does not do justice to the original or a remix process either. If you consider that all the fields have a certain logic and function, even when we are talking abstract works, a remix should represent an alternative of the original having taken the original work somewhere else somehow. I am sorry but this is very unsynchronised, I cannot feel it and I bet nobody can even when they are high. The vocals are randomly thrown on the loopy-acidic instrumental of John Talabot, as if he cut the acapella a bit and played around with it for a few minutes. I mean, seriously? Even if they needed a name to remix it for free on a low budget, they will make money from this and they have the nerve to even release a 12". I would never buy it but I did buy the original although Jamie used tons of samples to make that original, he did have a talent and a vision in his sampling process and ended up with a great outcome. He gave a different turn and atmosphere to tunes from people like Idris Muhammad and EBTG.
rackslap no matter what taste in music the guys above me have, this is indeed shitty as a remix. Maybe a decent acid track but the vocals are just awfully placed in there, that quiet mid part made me cringe, was so off tempo and not in a good way, badly cut. I do hope this is a recorded jam.
I see what you were thinking, but it just doesn't work for me. The original is so lush and perfect. These synths come off sounding cheap and contrived. Sorry pal!
I first heard this song in a secluded beach in Thailand and ever since it brings me instantly to a special hypnotic amazing Thai world with my thai friends
listen to this on a good system before passing judgment. those instrumental breakdowns sound crisp af on my big speakers. great reductive remix, in typical Talabot fashion.
