Jamo S805 "Tower" Speaker Review - The Mini Tower to Beat 

Swedish happy Jamo S 606 owner...cause you teached me how to look for cheap audio equipment. Hours and hours listening to your hifi talks. Today i bougth my Jamo S 606 and a center speaker, and two for the back. dirt cheap 130 dollars, and a pretty powerful yamaha home cinema, also 130 dollar. happy happy me.. Thank you. Darn i lurched facebook marketplace long time, and suddenly this deal came up, how cool.

I have the s803 bookshelves and I love them. Bass and highs a tiny bit exaggerated but they are fun to listen to. Very big and lively sound and they image and Soundstage spectacular for the price point.!

I've always been a bit curious about these and the S803's. I've heard nothing but good things about all of Jamo's line, especially for the price...Another great album to test speakers with is Donald Fagan's The Nightfly. Gary Katz produced that thing almost to perfection, it's my go to album. As always, great review! Love this channel! Cheers- Ron

I own the s803 and the reason they sound bad at ear level is because the tweeter is boosted in volume in order to allow you to sit with them off axis. Like they don't even measure within the +/- 3db they advertise until they are severely off axis. They are designed for non-audiophiles which is ok but if you're going in with the expectation that you'll set these up by the book. Don't, you'll get harsh highs and thin mids. For me they are the wrong speaker but I can see someone who just slaps them pointed straight into the room loving them. They also seem to have issues with bass most notablity compression as I can't run them without a sub nor do they like being played loud and low.

Randy! Thanks for the great and entertaining reviews. I bought the Jamo S805’s and then saw your review. Kinda nice to hear good stuff, especially after the fact. Perfect for my 12 x 16 office. Great sound stage, now a big fan of Jonny Cash … love Hurt. I also saw your review on CD’s. I’ve got tons of CD’s and haven’t listened to them in a long time. I hooked up an old Panasonic Blu-ray player and was blown away at how good they sound. My question for you is I want to buy a CD player - I’m looking at a Yamaha CD-C600 5-disc player, refurbished for $349 or a new Yamaha CD-S303 $379. Which one would you pick and why? Thanks!

I got these from Frys for $117 because they we're display models missing the pretty grills. You're description is right on. They sound more sensitive than 88dB cuz the bass is so strong. Not picky about placement. Fun to listen to like Klipsch RPs. They can't deliver in a big room or with big power (because 5") but in my bedroom I prefer them over pricier speakers. They didn't pair well with my Vista Spark because the bass was too boomy-bloomy. Were good with other amps though. That's my review, thanks for asking

Hey Randy - love the channel! In my room, small floorstanders / large bookshelves work well, so these Jamo's are right in that ballpark. A couple of affordable large MTM layout bookshelves that look interesting, would love to see a review: Ascend Acoustics - CMT-340 SE Mini-Tower Monitor - dual 6.5 woofers, soft dome tweeter - $500 a pair RSL CG23 Monitor - dual 4" woofers, soft dome tweeter - $400 a pair Keep on rockin' !

I really like small floorstanders. I don't know what it is about them, but give me a speaker somewhere between, say 28 and 34 inches tall and it just sounds right. I've owned AR-M4's, Snell Type E's, Polk Monitor 50s and right now I'm very satisfied with a pair of Pioneer SP-FS52 (thank you Mr. Andrew Jones) to the point where I don't have any interest in even looking at other speakers.

Randy, I'm really enjoying the 6 Sony SSCS5's in my home theater after a couple days of tuning. They really are fantastic for the price. Too bad the matching towers aren't! I've heard some really good reviews on this and other Jamo loudspeakers, nice to hear you confirm they are true. Great vid as always, keep up the great content man.

I have a Yamaha RX-V385. I am currently using it in 2.0 stereo but I am thinking of building a full 5.1 system with Jamo speakers: Towers and center front, bookshelves in the rear. Does anyone have this set up? Would the receiver provide enough power?

Been living with the Jamo S809's for a week now. Lot of bookshelf choices in the $300 range but If you have room for a small tower, this is a steal. In my small room, no sub necessary. With a sub in the big room? sheeeeeeeeeeit. Wholly involving imaging. Top end a little shiny? Insert Schiit Loki.. Leaving the grilles on also provided the perception of treble dampening. Feel like I made the right choice over the bookshelves. Soul filled with happiness for only 300 bucks.

i would like to see you review the Dayton Audio T652 they have an amt version for $155, the regular tweeter version is $140. i got an open box reg tweeter for $60 on the way😁 and a pair of b652-air for $32 open box😁. I've seen your vids on the b652-air and i 👍 them, i 😂 a cupla times on each vid

Just ordered the Jamo S805's to replace my Micca MB42X speakers. They will pair up to my SMSL AD18. The SMLS is hooked up via USB to the computer and a 3.5MM cable to the monitor for AUX because of the PS4 HDMI audio passthrough. You got a new subscriber. Keep up the awesome reviews. :)

Cheapo…your the best!! Thinking of upgrading or downgrading to the Jamo from my JBL NII book shelf’s. So true unless your human ears are bionic, what’s the difference between music and movie noise? They’re just creating (2) $$$$$ markets for the same sound in a box, that’s what that is.

Do you or anyone else have an opinion on these babies compared to the Emotiva B1+ bookshelves? I have some Pioneer BS22s and am looking for something with a little more ... I love clarity and would probably love those Emotivas but these are tempting! I have been binging on your speaker reviews and really enjoying them!

I'm concerned that cheapaudioman is so impressed with these S805's. I enjoy the S803's, but I sent back the S805's because they have bloated bass output. The tiny driver (actually 4.3" not 5.25") has too much air to move in the cabinet. Look at that tiny driver, do you think they would have perfect bass? They don't. The bass is ever present but not defined. Another reason I sent them back was that there was a channel imbalance because of a defective tweeter in one of the towers. Also note that they are not tall enough on their own, you will need to raise them about 10", which looks awkward. The highs and soundstaging is the fun part of this line from Jamo but the mids are absent which means they are more suited to music than dialog. My advice: S803 gets you the awesome soundstage, less bass but higher quality. A great apartment speaker. Cheap enough you could also get a sub and be way ahead. S805 skip it S807 extra driver will improve low end, proper height, price comes down as low as $200. Check Joshua Valour's video. S809 WAF will be high due to low price and nice looks but soundwise you'd be better off with other towers or even some quality bookshelves and a sub.

Did you listen with the grill on? In other words, does the grill affect the sound?

Subscribed! Now that you've somewhat curbed your prejudice against small towers it's safe for me to say you should listen to the Dali Oberon 5. I have a pair and you'd have to kill me to take them out of my house. They're not cheap though... €799.

I picked up the 803s and was pretty impressed. I am glad to hear the 805s are good. I may pick them up as well and move the 803s to the office. Once again, great content. Cheers.

Just picked up a pair of these based on your and Andrew's reviews of them. I paired them with a Fosi 2021C (also based on some of your reviews) to use as a bedroom system. Have my TV audio routed to it via optical. Very pleased so far for about $400 all in.

I got the s807 home theatre package for 299$ Canadian. They sound amazing but the its a little bright for me, so kept the grill on and used tone controls to dial down the highs. Looking for a sub now but I have no idea how to find the right spec sub. Can any one help? Love the channel! Subscribed immediately

Size is everything in *Tejas*, eh Randy ? Seriously, if those tweeters line up with your bellybutton you are either standing (!) or you listen in some form of Land of the Giants high chair. As one who has been know to slouch in a listening chair, these look damned near perfect to me. No argument that Metallica are incredible musos with insane longevity, but Some Kind Of Monster illustrates how easily it could all have come undone for the band long before their 40th anniversary. Fade To Black remains one of my top 10 tracks of all time (Kurt's solo is waaay better than anything Mustaine has ever done) but if I had to hand out an award for the band that kept it together over 4 decades, it would be Rush. Prior to Neil's passing, I didn't believe that the show was really over for a band that had been my soundtrack since I turned 16. RIP. Thanks for the video - now lets see a stream with Ron !
