The Secret Service knew quite well they’d be in big trouble for deleting texts. That means whatever those texts reveal is way, way worse than the transgression of deleting the texts. They’d rather face the music for deleting texts than face the truth. Think about how serious that is.

The Secret Service have to protect the President, no matter what. The Secret Service would sacrifice their lives for Donald Trump just because he got to be President. On top of destroying evidence being illegal, it also changes the presumption. The courts presume the destroyed evidence proves the case and the defense has to prove it didn't. Without the evidence to do it. It can make cases much harder to win.

I don't get why Biden didn't fire the head of the SS as soon as he took office. Even before all this came out about them deleting tests (which is obstruction at the very least), Biden knew the agents who served Dump were grossly compromised. The head of the SS, a Dump appointee, let Ornado work privately for Dump and then let him come back to his job - which is either gross negligence or he's part of the coup attempt.

Since Secret Service willfully deleted all those texts, then why shouldn't we get to make up our own versions? I think Seth's version is probably spot on. At the very least, the version of events presented by those who testify under oath is the undisputed version of events. Unless and until Secret Service agents and others testify under oath to the contrary, there is only one version out there - Cassidy Hutchinson's. Too bad you deleted all the text messages that could have proved her guilty of perjury. What's that? They would have corroborated her story? Yeah, that's what I thought.

Text messages require TWO PARTNERS: a sender and a receiver. Searching everybody's phone would be very useful, and I mean EVERYBODY'S phone. Also, Trump made no phone calls from any known phones in those 3 hours. He must have had a burner phone or something, but if the same "unknown" phone called Jim Jordan, and Kevin McCarthy, and Mitch McConnell, that might well have been Trump's phone.

Ok, I gotta throw this out there- digital communications are ALWAYS retrievable. Just because the Secret Service not so inauspicably deleted official texts from Jan. 5 or 6, doesn't mean they can't be retrieved. I used to have this 23--yo computer whiz I called to fix my desktop, and he could even pull up into from an old, crashed hard drive. And I 've read Edward Snowden's book. Yeah, you can always retrieve deleted info. Don't be gaslighted.

We're sitting here gasping about how the messages could have proved that trump grabbed an agent, but we really ought to have better intuition about these people by now than that. *The secret service wiped their phones.* It's worse than grabbing a guy or a steering wheel. I promise it is worse than that. Let's stop acting like this wasn't an actual coup attempt where they actually tried to overthrow the constitution and people were actually killed and maimed. It was exactly that, and there's an appreciable probability that there are text messages that say stupidly explicit things about exactly the shockingly traitorous plan these fascists intended to execute, had the former vice president not mustered up a set of nuts for once in his life and said "I'm not getting in that car." There was a gallows outside, and there was a secret service agent trying to take Mike Pence somewhere he didn't want to go. It sure would be nice if congress could see what those agents were saying to each other.

As a previous IT a tech that worked In various branches of the Government, if there are no records of the texts then someone went to a LOT of effort to delete them. It wasn’t just a phone wipe. It was a whole system purge because they are tracked in more than half a dozen ways. Some of those storage locations are more than half the country away so phone calls and e-mails had to be made. That some seriously difficult stuff to destroy all of it.

I actually think there may be texts of them discussing incapacitating Trump in order to avoid ongoing riots/deaths. But those texts may constitute some kind of treachery either in law, or by contract. Lots of high ranking officers may face charges for things like that. Also, if that were the case, I can DEFINITELY see why they wouldn't want to advertise it to the Trump base, who may act even more illegally and inappropriately, should they be shown evidence of Trump's claims of martyrdom. I gotta be honest. This last hearing made me feel a bit of genuine sympathy for Trump's supporters. They are like religious zealots. You can tell them they're wrong all you want, but as long as their god keeps reaffirming their zeal, they don't give a fart for the world. Liz Chaney was right: that horrible man preyed on their simplicity. It broke my heart to realize that these people were, in a sense, genuinely trying to be patriotic. There will always be ignorant people in the world, but it takes a cruel person to take advantage of them in the way Trump did his supporters, especially when he was not ignorant of his actions and their consequences, not to mention the potential consequences for those who genuinely believed in him. We call the people who stormed the Capitol un-American and unpatriotic, but the incredibly depressing, heartbreaking truth is that in their own way, they were patriotic. They loved their country. They believed Donald Trump loved them and their country. He made them believe their country was in danger and called them to fight to defend it, so they came, genuinely, I believe, in fear for democracy and genuinely believing what we know Trump knew was a lie about the election being rigged or stolen. They were genuinely afraid that their beliefs were being trampled on and that their vote would not be counted. Trump knew better, and yet continued to stoke these poor, simple, gullible people into action to defend their nation from what he knew to be a false threat, and for that, Donald John Trump is a monster in the highest sense of the word.
