This is so good. Great band & they interact during breaks instead of grandstanding solos. Virtuosic enough for the snobs, flashy enough for the proles.
An amazing recording of an INCREDIBLE BAND!!! There have been many "greatest bass players lists" but I have yet to see one with Fernando Saunders on it!!!!!!!!!
@@prajnachan333 Yes, I do know that he played with Lou Reed. This is the first Lou Reed song that I heard Fernando play on. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eO0wnWxj5rE.html
@@jerryvivanco4352 Auckland NZ '77 as you say. They (4) did this material 1st half and then backed Jeff Beck 2nd half. Stunning performance all round. Jan showed a few locals his pickup setup for the Rhodes. separate eq control offboard for every single tine. Amazing sound for the time (pre midi of course) . synths all hard wired to the strap on keyboard which he virtually invented.( came to be known as keytar )
I can't tell you how much I appreciate this upload... considering the rarity of this album.... I just keep coming back to listen to this gem of an album again & again...
I like some jan hammer melodies but oddly his album melodies is not so notable for them. his bands c.1976-c.1982 didn't work imho because it was all centred on a vocalist and lyrics. there's 1st 7 days, then there's MV and after, but in between....oh dear, for the most part. he could play in bands, sure. added good solos to lots of people's work. but solo and composing instrumental tunes...that's when he's at his best.
100.... What I want to know is what the f**** does he have in his vault..... 110 shows on the 2 are with Jeff back and only a couple live recordings out there and only 1 or 2 are good quality
Their live performances really show their spontaneity unlike the studio versions. They are very different in both sound & performance. I'm not saying one is better than the other - just different. The first thing you noticed at this performance is their live sound/playing and the ambience of the small crowd (I saw him at the Roxy and they performed Manic Depression that was unbelievable. Just phenomenal & that will be with me forever.) This does not sound like an arena but a small venue. Great recording. Thank you very much!!
