I love this video, so great to hear how JAJuly is going for you. Reading all these comments it seems everyone is reading so fast, I'm a tad jealous! - I do have a demanding job to go to too so I can half excuse myself. But also I think the bigger issue is I didn't finish the novel I was reading in June before the end of that month so I'm still reading that whilst doing the JA challenges. So far I've done both watching challenges and I'm reading a book about JA (I think it was number 3 on the challenges). Enjoying it so far. I hope later in the month to join in the P&P read along and re-read that one with you all :)

Thanks! Everyone reads at different speed and has different time in their life, so it really doesn't matter, so long as you enjoy it :)

I'm doing well, I believe. As I'm doing a sweing project I went for audiobooks by now. I finished Longbourn (loved it) and now I'm listening Emma, not for the readathon but for an online book club I joined today. After that I have Lady Susan and Eavesdropping in Jane Austen's England waiting for me and I still have to choose a book by an Austen's contemporary author 🤔

I have only begun thinking about what I am going to read - I need to start the actual reading soon! I am doing the virtual Jane Austen Festival this weekend as much as I can attend. I do know I am going to read Mansfield Park as one of mine.

I was hoping you'd vlog this readathon again 😆. Wonderful video Katie! My current JAJ read is Pride by Ibi Zoboi which I am buddy reading with one Goodreads friend and another might belatedly join😀. I'm really loving it so far! I think I'll have to get that Jane and Henry Austen biography/literary criticism book for next year. I wonder if the whole "Jane might have been a little too fond of her brother" thing is like the Austen version of an internet deep dive where you accidentally go so far down internet rabbit holes that you end up finding out things you didn't want to know. I make that comparison because the other time I've seen something similar was the fact that the screenwriter for the 90s Mansfield Park not only sort of superimposed the novel with Jane Austen's letters and such but also superimposed the character of Fanny with Austen herself and Edmund with Henry Austen which I found a bit creepy (also that may be hogwash but I read it when researching while rewatching the movie 😂). Ok this turned into rambling but great video and can't wait to see more! PS- so glad that you liked Elinor and Marianne Take Barton! My favorites were the modern updates/acting portrayals of Elinor and Colonel Brandon 😀❤️🎥.

@booksandthings PS- did you see that Chawton House is posting several videos for the 80th anniversary of the Jane Austen Society this month? Perfect timing to coincide with Jane Austen July 😆❤️📘🎧🙌🎉

I just finished Emma and it's now one of my all time favourite books! Love it so much, it's such a delight. Also watched the new 2020 movie adaption, as well as Clueless from 1995. Both are fantastic. I really want to read the juvenilia and the Banking Sister.

I love your vlogs and please do try to vlog the whole of July if you can. I have already finished 10 books, mostly Jane Austen related books. I am just loving July because of all the Jane Austen I am reading. Today, I might start Frankenstein.

Oof, there was a whole kerfuffle in criticism in the 90s when a bunch of people took a review of an edition Austen’s letters to mean the author was suggesting Jane and Cassandra had an incestuous relationship (that was NOT the actual argument). Crazy stuff. People are really eager to search for hidden romance in Austen’s real life to “explain” her novels...which is never my favorite type of argument.
@katiejlumsden

Madness - I mean really, let's all just agree that Jane Austen had an imagination!

Ooo loved the vlog! I think Emma is the only book I've read by Jane Austen so far, definitely want to reread it! Jane Austen: The Banker’s Sister sounds really interesting, besides the weird part!!!

Jane Austen: The Banker’s Sister sounds really good except for that aspect of Jane perhaps loving her brother a bit too much. It seems like there's an incest theory for every famous person!

I'm so glad you are enjoying your reread of Emma. I've just finished a selection of Jane Austen's letters which I found interesting, sometimes quite funny but also demanding, and my reread of the audio book of P&P by Rosamund Pike (it's so, so good, I absolutely love it). And I've read The Beautifull Cassandra (as you say, silly but very funny). Next I'm going to reread Northanger Abbey which I've only read once and don't remember much.

Hi Katie, first of all I LOVE your channel, and thank you for such consistently great content. This is my first time participating in Jane Austen July. I love Jane Austen and have read all her novels but it’s been a few years so I am happy to be re-reading Emma. I have a question: will you be doing a video devoted to a discussion/analysis of Emma after you are done reading it? Or do you discuss it on Goodreads? I wasn’t sure, but love when you devote entire video to discussing one book. thanks!

I finished The Banker's Sister yesterday as well! I felt her thoughts on Henry and Jane's relationship were off. She and Cassandra were also extremely close and there's nothing weird about that!

I had to play catch up for a couple days while reading Emma. It is fun and frustrating. Emma is a character I don't completely love yet but I am hoping that this is all character development and I will love her by the end. I do enjoy the conversations with Emma and Mr. Knightley!

Henry is so far my favourite Austen brother and since you said you'd read this book I'm interested on it. I've been reading Northanger Abbey and Jane Austen A Life by Claire Tomalin which has been a great fun. I don't agree with everything that Tomalin says but it has been a good reading anyway. I love your vlogs, great video 😊

I recently got a box set of Austen novels (the just-adequate 6 paperback set from Arcturus) and re-read Northanger Abbey, as well as read Persuasion, Mansfield Park, and Sense and Sensibility for the first time over the past 2 weeks. Persuasion was my favorite, Mansfield and Northanger tied for 2nd, and Sense and Sensibility came in 3rd. Maybe I'll get to a reread of P&P and Emma later this month. Those are the only ones I have. Might have to check out some of her other stuff too, although I have Agnes Grey on the way, so that might be next if it arrives by the time I'm done with what I'm reading now. I wish I had a better set. The ones I have are ok but there are no notes or illustrations... it would be fun to have copies with some nice artwork in them.

Hi I’m Curious what u think about Writing I’m 14 and have so many Ideas in my head for books but find it Quite Difficult to right do you think it Would be a good idea to do something silly to start off with or something Serious Love ur videos
@BeatrixOnyx
@BeatrixOnyx 4 года назад
Write what most interests you! If you want to write a silly story then write one. If serious storytelling is more your thing then go with that. Have fun with your writing and you'll become a better writer the more you do it. Have a go at writing the stories in your head. You can always go back and edit it if you don't like it. Best of luck! 😊

I agree with Miss Autumn - start writing and see how you go; often something silly or light (and short) can be an easy place to start, but it depends on what you enjoy :)
