He later admitted he was fascinated with her the minute he touched her shoulder when she helped him during his accident, they fell in love after she saved him from the fire, it was glaringly obvious from the way he refused to let go of her hand and the tension from both of them on the stair case where he found her tying on her sandal, he said, 'goodnight my...'he stopped. This scene depicted what they've both longed to do for a very long time!
Thank you for this particular scene. I've almost worn it out on my DVD. When he calls her, his little mustardseed, then "Janet" afterward, I freak! The first time, he said it, took me off guard ~ Thanks again, Janet
1) Mr. Rochester often calls Jane 'fairy' or 'elf'. "Mustardseed" is one of the fairies in Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream". 2) Why do you think TD is American? He was born in Wales and has an Italian, Irish and English background (according to IMDB).
"I don't speak to you as if you were handsome"... What the hell is she saying? Timothy Dalton was one of most hansome men of the 80'ies. If he isn't handsome, who is handsome then?
I fully agree with you here. It's so obvious that one wonders why weren't they removed at all! In my opinion, it's the greatest flaw of this otherwise extremely enjoyable screen version of "Jane Eyre". What a pity!
But on the subject of beauty, I would like to use Jane's own words after telling Mr. Rochester that she did not find him handsome(Chapter XIV): "Sir, I was too plain; I beg your pardon. I ought to have replied that it was not easy to give an impromptu answer to a question about appearances; that tastes mostly differ; and that beauty is of little consequence, or something of that sort."
I agree with you to some extent about RO. She is charming and in a way pretty, but by reading the book I would expect her to be stunningly beautiful. One thing I do envy her is the dress. If I could get a whigmaker and the money to make me a early 1830's hairstyle whig, I would include such a dress in my period costume wardrobe even if I do not think I have the ideal body-shape to wear it ;-)
