The way her music has allowed me to escape and indulge into another world through my favorite medium, music, is exquisite. I’m in love with her imagination. As a writer, as a music lover, as a hopeless nerd, she speaks to me on a spiritual level. Thank you, this is really helpful to me in understanding the kind of science fiction Janelle Monáe makes and also how storytelling works in songs and song suites or albums. Long time fan of written science fiction and of music, but had never really put together how the elliptical nature of the stories in many story-songs is actually a virtue. Although with "Dirty Computer", Monáe has left Metropolis behind for now, she is still writing science fiction, especially in the video edition.

This is really fantastic. I've only recently come into contact with Monae's music and I'm finding it fascinating. This is a really good primer on her work. Well done! :D
