The interviewer tried to correct Janet Jackson by telling her that her mother is from India and her father is black from Jamaica. Janet continued to ignore the facts the interviewer had provided for her with. Afterwards Janet said that’s not what I heard. It is obvious to me that Janet Jackson is listening to Donald Trump and the right wing media propaganda social media outlets. This issue has been debunked over and over again. Janet has a huge platform and her words carry a lot of weight. There was a way she could’ve handled this by not continuing to question Kamala’s racial identity. She could have also sent a public apology for spreading misinformation as to be respectful to Kamala Harris and her heritage. Janet Jackson had not done that. Therefore, it’s obvious to me that she is taking position that she believes Harris is not black based on Donald Trump rhetoric.
Everything you said is correct. She was on the Celebrity Apprentice with Trump… she is a Trump supporter, which is why she is standing by what she said. It was done in bad faith. I didn’t know she has such bad character, spreading malicious lies about a person’s race.
See where you coming from but it could be that she got scared and just went "in hiding" to avoid the heat that is coming her way from every angle about it. People can be vicious and she knows it pretty well. People should learn to stay away from sensitive matter they aren't sure about.
Facts. Google is available. Get my news from multiple sources, both online and cable. Then, I use my common sense to decide what is true and draw my conclusions which are usually correct. Polls leading up to elections, I don't trust them. I just vote based on my conclusions. The presidential race and all lower elections have become easier for.me. Blue is how I'm totally voting. I don't care what Janet Jackson says. Check her dating and marriage history. Janet changes thoughts and men like she does outfits during her shows. That shows indecision while VP Kamala's family life appears solid as does her running mate's. Look at Kamala's opponents and their families that they profess to be great. To quote Janet Jackson "Let's wait awhile before you go too far!" Vote Blue Thru and Thru!🗳💙
Exactly! This day and age you can go on the internet and look up any and everything. Kamala has been out there for a while and the fact that people still don’t know what her background is tells me that they want to be what they want to believe, I am so over it at this point
She's both Black and Indian immigrant and it should NEVER be an issue.... The ACTUAL fact here is, Kamala is the only candidate on the ballot that actually is sane, fit and overwhelmingly qualified to be the President of the United States. That's a FACT.
she kept saying "I heard..." "I was told.." why does nobody actually bother to fact check now? the fact even now she's firing her team trying to educate her.
@@maddiejung974 It's all bs. Being a major celebrity, Miss Jackson knew what to comment on and when to stay silent. She's being doing that her whole career. Imagine not being sure of someone's race, but stating it anyways. Omg lol
Janet probably was trapped in the studios for years. She is clueless as to what is happening in the society. She did say in the interview that she has not been following the news.
I always believe that your opinion is your opinion but your opinion should be based on facts. So Janet lives in her own bubble. Get educated, darling Janet. Very disappointing!
It's sad that a 58 years old woman who has the privilege of traveling the world for a large part of her life comes off as so ignorant at this stage of her life. Not surprised Whoopie is making up excuse for Janet here. She made excuses for Bill Cosby for a long time until it was impossible for her to do it anymore. "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt."
Janet showed her ingnorants of human cultures, remember this woman is 58 years old. However, when you go into the DNA of it , V.P. Kamala Harris father is the patriarchy of the DNA. He is from Jamaica!!!
Here’s the thing; why would she fire the man from her team for apologizing on her behalf ? He was very smart to issue that apology. She basically double-downed that she’s not sorry.
What difference does it make? She's not from the same lineage as FBA"s. That's why she said it straight from her chest that she's not going to do anything for Blk people. She kept her promise so far.
Whoopi's explanation is so ridiculous. she never holds her friends accountable, but if this was someone she didnt know she'd be fine with chastising them. Janet Jackson is a grown woman and she can be held accountable for the things that she says publicly
This isn't a little oopsie. Janet literally repeated false claims, that stem from a hateful man spewing hateful rhetoric. Whoopi is so incredibly wrong here and you can tell, she's being biased towards her
I agree that often, celebrities, politicians, regular civilians, we get it wrong & do deserve some grace. I don't agree that in this situation, Janet feels she was wrong. "I've heard", "some people say", those are MAGA words. And even if she thought that, she knows who Kamala is running against, she knows the backlash her brother got & the judgements about his skin color. So what purpose does she think questioning Kamala's race has?? Ugh.
@@webster2086I live in New Zealand a very small country at the bottom of the world. I and many kiwis (New Zealanders) closely follow American politics. Janet Jackson is American shame on her
ITS INFURIATING TO HEAR THESE PEOPLE ON HUGE PLATFORMS CRY ABOUT MISINFORMATION WHILE SPREADING MISINFORMATION!! Just because you were BORN and raised in Jamaica don't make you Black! Just like being born in African doesn't make you Black! Kamala's mother is INDIAN. Her father is of IRISH AND INDIAN DESCENT, but BORN in Jamaica. That does NOT make him Black. No one would even care had Kamala's team not LEAD with her being the first BLACK anything, but they did and now here we are. THIS IS CRAZY!!
@@LPAFilm a person is considered to be black if they have African ancestry. VP Harris has both South Asian and Jamaican/African ancestry, therefore she’s is both Indian AND black.
Just because Janet is an icon and black doesn’t mean she should get a pass on this, it was disrespectful. If a white musician like Ariana grande or Katy Perry said this Whoopi would lose her mind. Not liking Kamala or not wanting to endorse her is totally fine, but lying about her race is low!
I felt whoopie gave her a pass! Not with me. If you are such an Icon, get informed! I don't care how good or bad your music is, artist should be informed about what's going on in society as we all should!!
Background of Kamala Harris’ Ancestry Kamala Harris, the current Vice President of the United States, has a complex ancestry that includes connections to Ireland. Her father, Donald J. Harris, has claimed descent from Hamilton Brown, who was born in County Antrim, Ireland, in 1776. Brown emigrated to Jamaica and became a prominent plantation owner and slave owner. This connection is significant as it highlights the intertwined histories of colonization and slavery. Hamilton Brown’s Role in History Hamilton Brown was not only a plantation owner but also an outspoken opponent of the abolition movement in Britain. He owned numerous sugar plantations in Jamaica and was known for his harsh treatment of enslaved people. When slavery was abolished in the British Empire in 1834, he received substantial compensation for the loss of his enslaved workers-over £12,000 at that time (equivalent to more than $12 million today). His legacy is complicated by his role as both a product of colonialism and an active participant in its oppressive systems. The Genealogical Claims Research conducted by Northern Irish historian Stephen McCracken suggests that Hamilton Brown could be Kamala Harris’s four-times-great-grandfather. However, this genealogical link remains contested; some genealogists have pointed out that there is insufficient evidence to conclusively prove this lineage. The lack of marriage or children records yet Hamilton Brown raped slaves.
@johnwebb2442 I love American culture and grocery shop in California all the time but it's an obsession! And why can't she be both? I have to repeat that question again, I swear.
Why did Janet even mention her race. It is about the qualifications of the candidates. Since she heard that the vice president was white had she also heard that Trump is a felon and other negatives that I choose, not to mention. I'm disappointed that white or black would matter. 😢
I am so surprised that Janet said something so ignorant. I wonder how her son will identify himself when he grows up. And her nephews and niece, Michael Jackson's children, claim to be his "real" children, and they all are definitely not Black🤔
Surprise surprise that Whoopi defends Janet's ignorance and doubling down on her ignorance. Guaranteed Whoopi wouldn't have done the same for any other celebrity who said the same thing if they weren't her friend.
It's interesting that Whoopi is giving this a pass. To say that people mess up and make mistakes, this pass is never given to those who don't think or agree with their politics. IJS Also, Janet should actually be more sensitive to this issue, with everything her brother and her entire family have faced for years regarding their appearance and the race of her brother's children. I would think there would have been no comment at all about Vice President Harris' race.
Not really that "interesting" when you start to notice the pattern. Is the topic about a celebrity or hollywood friend Whoopi knows? Yes? Then she will defend them and try to shut down the conversation. Is it about anyone else? Open season. 😒
How does Janet’s appearance detract from the fact that she’s a black woman, and has always championed black people and uplifted us? Have Kamala’s ancestors built this country? No…. Janet Jackson’s did
Janet should be the last one to question someone else’s blackness/ identity. I mean look at some of her siblings, her child and nieces/ nephews. One should not throw rocks from their own glass house. Educate yourself Janet!!!
Who really cares what Janet Jackson says. I didn't even know she was still alive. At the end of the day, she just has one vote just like everyone else.
Who told Ms. Jackson that? This is literally the first time I've heard anyone say that they tought Harris' father was white. Definitely something easy to find real information for.
If you don't know something to be true then past on the questions. She's not new to this game and I will never look at her again in a great light. Also her brother is a Trump supporter and I think her family is too. Also she spoke to a non American journalist, how reckless of her.
I believe that she knew exactly what she was doing in spreading this lie about Kamala Harris. She has always known that her words hold weight and that she must be careful with the things she says regarding her brother and family, what was different this time? She needs to be honest at this point, and admit that she is a trump supporter.
"i dont consider Kamala black"... Janet do YOU consider YOUR OWN KID black is the real question, cos baby...if Kamala isnt black then I'm afraid your son isn't
Whoopi also defended Mel Gibson and Roman Polansky and Bill Cosby. Her friends are off limits i guess. Everyone else is held accountable for their actions, but Hollywood gets a pass.
I'm sorry Whoopi but NO. You don't give grace when someone hasn't even apologized or acknowledged error. I knew she would be like this because she always loses her objectivity when it comes to her Hollywood friends. Some former manager was the one who came out and said it was a mistake and her current team went out of their way to say she DID NOT apologize. I'm sorry no. She deserves no "grace" until she asks for it. 🙄
If she didn’t know she should have just abstained from answering. Although she is wealthy she likely does not recall the black struggle of common folk. But she should be well aware of the nonsense that comes out of the mouths of ignorant people that are directed at black folks.
Unfortunately there are plenty of ignorant black folks agreeing with her and voting trump or staying home. Its all self hate. And having seen the Jackson family for the past 50 years with all the nose jobs and skin lightening, we know how they feel about black people. You cannot make this ish up.
100% disagree w/ Whoopi (and we know she's defending her because she's her friend). it's literally so ridiculous to spread misinformation or disinformation when you have a platform as big as janets....Janet mourning her brother should not make her confused as to if Kamala is black or not. And agreed that celebs do not have to make endorsements or non-endorsements but they have a responsibility to not feed into misinformation or disinformation.
@@alexcatiggay5373 I totally agree with you. She’s given Janet Jackson a pass because that’s her friend. If it were anyone else whoopi would be hollering and screaming.
Facts. And the guardian interview happened before everything with her brother. Janet Jackson is not above accountability and she needs to educate herself before speaking on people and things she knows nothing about!
I don't understand how she had a brother who faced criticism for "trying to look white" and get herself involved in something like this. She's wrong! No defense for her!!he should've kept her mouth shut!
!!!!!!!! ITS INFURIATING TO HEAR THESE PEOPLE ON HUGE PLATFORMS CRY ABOUT MISINFORMATION WHILE SPREADING MISINFORMATION!! Just because you were BORN and raised in Jamaica don't make you Black! I noticed that, when I was watching this earlier, Whoopi kept repeatedly saying "Mm-Hmm" every time one of the other hostesses would speak and I love my Whoopster but she was wrong in this case cause Janet is NOT innocent and she does NOT deserve any grace (especially if she's repeating far-right, hateful rhetorics)
"She made a mistake!" sez Whoopie. Yeah, but she's not admitting it was a mistake! By firing her spokesperson, *without any other clarifying statement*, she's publicly doubling down, instead. I give slack to people trying to do better.
Whopping Goldburg, struggles to read the teleprompter. She defended Bill Cosby, she said the Holocaust was white on white crime. They don't come much dumber than Whoppie Karen Johnson Goldberg.
I'm kind of done with Janet at this point. I've stood by her through the SuperBowl, her declining career, and her pretending that Michael was innocent. But this is the last straw.
You were never a true fan. Why would Janet disparage someone's race when she's been in several interracial relationships and has a son that is biracial. Give Janet time to address. I personally thing the person who interviewed her misrepresented her words.
Not half but way too many. We complain about people not looking past our race yet we judge ourselves even more harshly. I am not just disappointed that some blacks question her blackness. But that they even believe it is an issue at all. Candidates are usually all male and white and old. Now we have this young, multicultured, experienced, women vying to lead our country and people that look like her are piling on with Trump and his racist supporters who question her race. Sickening.
I Fully Agree : remember Whoopi ' s comment on Clooney about the Biden ' affair ' : his withdrawal from the race , Just Shows she is biassed no more no less 🤥
You clearly don't watch the View. She has defended many celebrities in the past, many of them who happen to be white. She allowing grace for Janet as she is mourning the loss of her brother.
Whoopi at the end saying how Janect Jackson isn't this political person. WELL... then, maybe, Janet shouldn't have mentioned anything about Harris, if Janet doesn't want to get into politics.
What Janet and the rest of the Jackson family would really be doing is honoring the life of their beloved bother TITO JACKSON, who transitioned a week ago! That's one!! TWO!! KATHERINE JACKSON!! Comfort her please!! My goodness!! People failed to even mention that she LOST TWO CHILDREN now!! We're so caught on race issues that it holds no barrings compared to this!! Please put it into perspective!! Thank you!! 💯
Can we please get some hosts who aren't afraid to challenge Whoopi??? Janet lives in La-La Land, and Whoopi is her friend. Shame on Whoopi ! This isn't an issue that arose in the past few days. There shouldn't be any adult Black person over the age of 25, raised in America not knowing Kamala Harris background! That is ridiculous. Janet is so privileged that these things don't concern her. If they don't concern you, don't comment.
Please forgive her ignorance because it's not her fault. If she had done her research she would have known who she was. Miss. Jackson Please go and do your research and then read or ask Ms. Oprah or Ms. Whoopi, thanks.
It doesn't really matter what color Kamala Harris is or her parents, she still has my vote! However, both of her parents are black. Her dad is Jamaican, who are from Africa AND her mom is Southern Indian, whose ancestors are also black and from Africa.
sis, stop it. Just stop. You sound crazy and stuck on stupid.
Whoopi going to bat hard for Janet but she refused to apologize for her words. By her firing that staffer, was her doubling down on what she said. Her older brother is a huge Trump supporter, so it makes sense that Janet would side with her brother. It’s sad because I thought more highly of Janet.
Why did Janet Jackson feel she had to make a comment at all? It's really none of her concern and she's giving out false information. She needs to own up to this and judge VP Harris on her experience and knowledge. She also needs to apologize for this egregious comment.
Kamala Harris grandparents was not born in America on either side she's did not come from the descendants of American slavery. And I got to ask you since you so up on Black Yusuf advocate for reparations cash payments for black people who was enslaved in this country.
Alyssa's point was great. I always found it baffling trying to understand how people could support Donald Trump when he's so clearly incompetent. But as Alyssa explained, those people don't get their news from reliable, factual sources, and may never see proof of some of the stupid, racist, non-sensical incoherent nonsense that Trump says.
With the level of misinformation that Janet and her family have experienced, there’s really no excuse for what she said. I get she hates interviews (probably for this exact situation) but she’s a very intelligent woman. If an interviewer ask you a question about a subject you’re not versed in, it’s only to say “Idk” or “I have no comment on that”.
For Janet to be angry at someone 'doing the right thing' on her behalf is insane. She must be doing all this for the sake of any publicity she can get because I just don't see the logic in intentionally making yourself looked uninformed and out of touch, particularly with your own fanbase.
@@ros375 Never heard of a "celebrity feud"? Also, Trump, if anything, is a celebrity, who covets the endorsement of other celebrities, to the point of sharing an AI image of Taylor Swift endorsing him.
As a European I will never understand why you make such a big deal out of Skin Colour,Black/White this and that.I understand your History of Racism and Slavery, but seriously,it must get exhausting,we're all beautiful.
It's amazing, in this information age, where virtually everyone has a digital library in their pocket, how lazy people are to do the most basic research.
During the 17th century, particularly after the English Civil War and under Oliver Cromwell’s rule, thousands of Irish men, women, and children were transported to the Caribbean as indentured servants.
