As a society, we are trauma adverse.
We ignore it, we hide from it, we pretend it didn’t happen or we downplay it. It happens all the time.
In fact, it happens so much that we don’t even really know what it is and how it is affecting us.
The truth is though: I’ve never met anyone who didn’t have some sort of trauma.
I used to believe that my trauma was limited to my experience of being raped. And oh yeah, that was traumatic. But what I’ve come to find out over the years is that there is so.much.more.
It is pervasive. And not only is it that, but we don’t address it or worse, we may be shamed for it. Admonitions like, “Don’t cry,” “Toughen up,” and “Don’t be so sensitive” keep us from admitting that there is anything wrong or from allowing ourselves to have the experience of fully processing a traumatic experience through our bodies.
I see this all the time in my practice and so many of my clients are experiencing the side effects of a dysregulated nervous system. In fact, it is so prevalent that several years ago I started working with one of my mentors, Irene Lyon.
Over the years, Irene and I have become friends and she is a truly remarkable person. She comes from a place of deep integrity and alignment with her mission to support as many people as possible in achieving nervous system health.
And recently, she sat down with me to do a little interview for you! I am so thrilled with this too because we cover an incredibly wide range of topics in this chat that will illuminate you on the topic of trauma. You’ll also get to see how awesome she is.
Here are just a few of the topics we covered (and it was so hard to choose which ones to share here!):
• Why so many people are stuck in a functional freeze response (and what that even is)
• How the domestication of humans has shifted our ability to process trauma
• How you may have been inadvertently traumatized as a child
• The impact of unprocessed emotions on the nervous system and your health
• The way in which a regulated nervous system opens up your intuition
• And how being sensitive may have contributed to “unseen” trauma
Irene also has a learning series out right now, which is how I originally found her. It is such a valuable resource for gaining an initial understanding of how the nervous system works. I highly recommend it and you can sign up for that here: janetraftis.co...

I know of two past lives, I know there are many, put the one thing that is clear is that I am afraid of expressing myself. In one of my past lives, I was a medium, I was tortured for practicing my craft, hung and thrown in the river to die. I believe that was a very hard trauma and why I cannot remember it. I know there were more traumatic past lives but I cannot explain why my contract that I sign before I was born was to agree to experience a facial birthmark. I keep thinking it was probably from a traumatic experience. I would like to heal it because it has stopped me from my souls goal. This is fascinating to me and I would like to let go of all my fears.
