I was born in the same hospital as Janis, in Port Arthur, Texas, 6 years before she died. I know people who went to high school with her. We are awful proud of her down here in Southeast Texas.
What an artist. Very troubled life plagued with booze and herion. Died at 27 with a unfinished album Pearls. Her live performance of Ball and Chain blows me away. Pearls has fantastic tracks that are in need of being aried again by two young guys that have a love of music as everyone should.
Love this reaction guys to this incredible artist. Janis is a force of nature. I think you would also like "Little Girl Blue" by her if you haven't reacted to it already. Thanks so much for posting this. Praying for peace everywhere🧡🙏☮🍂🍃
Bro's, you'll love her "Piece Of My Heart", "Me And Bobbie McGee" and "Ball And Chain". Gotta do at least one live performance. One of the great voices of all time. There will never be another Janis. On the male side, only Joe Cocker comes close.
Any of her songs starts and im home...there is an imaginary warm blanket that engulfs me saying "youre ok the way you are" when she sings. I will allways love that woman.
You asked "where have i been?" Buddy, you weren't born when this woman sang. Janis put out her whole soul in every performance. She said: " Every night, I make love to 40,000 people, then go home alone." Her life story is tragic, but she sang wonderfully.
Try this song 'Maybe' live in Germany I think. You guys are great! Thank you! Janis was 'one of us'...that's how it was back then. Us 'hippies' had a shared heart. We were one!!! There's a song that Steppenwolf does called Snowblind Friend that refers to that feeling of togetherness. It's about someone who is hooked on drugs and it says..."and he'll always be a problem to his poor and puzzled mother, and he'll always be another one of us!" No matter what the media says about us and those times we were one people with that shared heart! We cared about each other!
Back in the late 50's or early sixties there was a female vocalist by the name of Timi Yuro who had a smash hit called hurt that was a monster hit. She also had a unique and rare voice. Check her out one day.
The one and only Janis Joplin. My God what a voice. The pain you hear from Janis' voice flows from her childhood and comes out in the finest voice of the '60s. I saw her in '69 at Winterland in San Francisco. Fabulous concert. Janis always gives all. Totally spent by the last song. This final band of Janis' was modeled on the Ike and Tina Turner Review with full horns in support.
The tragic tale of a young woman with incredible talent that just wanted to be loved. Unfortunately, one of her claims to fame is being in the infamous "27 club" along side with Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison, just to name two. She is the Queen of Rock. Thanks for your gracious reaction.❤
I am fortunate enough to have seen her live in concert. Yes, I'm that old. She was the most vibrant, soulful, expressive singer I've ever heard. She put every bit of pain, heartache, longing, love on stage! She was a force of nature.
Janis Joplin Summertime (Live- 1969). All those other requests are well deserved. Some of my favorites. However, Summertime is THE BEST. She had no soul left after this performance.
I discovered Janis Joplin in 1994. Man, I fell in love with her man. In my mind I could really feel her at times. Especially when being 'in the pocket' when singing one of her songs. Kozmic Blues was like stepping into another world. The album art really pulled me into it. Like stepping back in time and being present for the pictures. Thank You guys for the video. Peace. ✌🏾
My favorite female artists are Janis, Grace Slick from Jefferson Airplane ("Rejoyce", "Two Heads", and "Hyperdrive"), Lene Lovich, and Nina Hagen. Some Lady Gaga.
Yes Janis Joplin and I know others have already mentioned this but I'm going to mention it to you definitely need to check out" ball and chain" live at Monterey Pop you will not be disappointed Janis Joplin was influenced by some of the greats such as big mama Thornton and Bessie Smith . Great reaction
It would be hard to beat the pure, sexy, blues of Janis Joplin. Another kick ass blues rock singer. I would certainly recommend "Ball and Chain" like many others have suggested. Enjoy your musical travels.
So happy to see you guys loving and appreciating Janis so many years after her tragic passing as much as I do. I love this lady and her music and THIS is one of my favorites. My most favorite is "Work Me Lord." Would love you gentlemen to react to that. It's really a cry from the soul only Janis can sing!
Janis had a gift like no other female singer!! You need to watch anything live...she is a trip to watch, and could move as good as she can sing. RIP Janis❤🎶🎶
I can't help but get sad everytime I hear her. Just the unfortunate truth. But her voice and soul is incredible. Story telling and vocals are insane. Not a great day for me but I'm watching a ton of your reactions and my day is better. Thanks guys.
Janis is the singer of all females! I just bought her greatest hits CD. A must see, is BALL AND CHAIN, live at the Monterey Pop Festival 1967!!! Also, Me and Bobby McGee Piece of my Heart
There's never been anyone quite like Janis, before or since. To really appreciate her you have to watch her singing live. When Big Brother played at Monterey in the summer 1967 most people didn't know who they or Janis were, and they blew the audience away (the same went for Jimi Hendrix). The Monterey video is great, they flash to Cass Elliott (from the Mamas and the Papas) a couple of times and you can see she's mesmerized. Nobody had ever heard anything quite like her before. Some great videos to check out.... You’ve heard it in several comments but I’ll reiterate - Ball and Chain Live at Monterey, it’ll blow your doors off! Think you’re melting now? You’ll be a pile of mush unable to regenerate after that one! Keep on rocking my bros🤘🏿🎵🤘🏿🔥😎
She's very powerful. This song doesn't showcase her voice really as well as some of her other hits I think. As people have mentioned, Ball and Chain, Piece of My Heart are kinda her classics.Check them out.
I normally recommend reactors listen to studio versions before they move on to the live versions. Janis is one of the only exceptions to that "rule". Seeing her live is an incredibly unique and amazing experience.
I saw Janis live. She was a wild woman. Part human and part explosion with a bottle of Southern Comfort in one hand and a grip on the mic stand in the other.
when it comes to janis joplin, the 3 must hear songs that you have to hear to really appreciate how good her voice was are - summertime - ball and chain, and - piece of my heart. 3 all time classics, especially summertime.
The loss of this incredible soul was one of the biggest tragedies in music. What I would have given to be old enough to see her. She will forever be my favorite female artist❤🤬🤘🎶👍
Saw Janis a few times, first time at the Monterey Pop Festival. Rock and roll was born from the blues... I hope you delve more into the genre. Another awesome female blues singer is Beth Hart. Might I suggest her live performance of "I'll Take Care of You" live at the Beacon Theater... not only an awesome vocal but also an awesome guitar solo. But more blues please; Robert Cray, Coco Montoya, Joe Bonamassa, Bobby "Blue" Bland... the list is very long.
Janis Joplin is ALWAYS worth listening and reacting to, no matter which song it is from her... great reaction video, as always. And now, please on to Mylene Farmer. ;-) And I have another request, a singer that I just discovered a few days ago, from the Faroe Islands, her name is Eivor ! Please, you HAVE to react to "Free falling" (Live in Torshavn) ! You will be blown away... just like me and everybody else... I promise you ! Best wishes : Gerry
Janis was a tragic figure. She always had a bottle of Southern Comfort on the stage at her live performances. She did amazing live performances. She was so funny and had fun with the guys in her band.
