The soulful sounds of Janis Joplin is unmatched. She embodied the blues and gives us powerful imagery through her poetic song performances. In this video I listen, react, and do a lyrical breakdown of Janis Joplin's song "Me and Bobby McGhee"
This is part of my University of Music selection where I take the best songs and do a deep dive. I'm not a music guru whatsoever, this is just my way of showing appreciation of this art form; some music deserves more than just a "wham bam, thank you ma'm" reaction, ya know? These songs are a work of art and should be treated as such.

This is a song written by Kris Kristofferson. She died immediately after Recording Bobby McGee. When Kristoffersons agent played him Janices' recording, Kris wept. Country Artist, Roger Miller was the first to have a hit with this song. But, Janice took this song to a new level. Wow

I can't imagine this song being done any better than Janis did it. She completely killed it. Nobody else will ever be able to cover this song.

Hi Tasha! Wonderful reaction! A harpoon is slang for harmonica, or mouth harp. Rock was born out of the blues historically. Yes, big band, country, swing and even classical all played a part as well, but it’s all a mix of ingredients! Thank you for your insights!

Great reaction Tasha. I have been waiting forever for you and T to react to another Joplin and just stumbled on your page. You will love any of her live performances on the Dick Cavett show. A good start would be her rendition of the Bee Gees classic "To Love Somebody" live in 1969 on Cavett 's show.

I love the way you see music! My kids think I’m crazy but I judge the people they date by the way they appreciate (or don’t appreciate) music! My youngest son is 21 and brought a date over for Sunday dinner last night and we sat and watched Stevie Nicks videos on RU-vid for a couple hours! She’s a keeper! She gave me some insight on some songs as well and so now, I love her!

You mention, the University of Music, the lyrics of Kris Kristofferson is an entire course. Janis' signing is much closer to the blues than 60's rock.

Hi Tasha, GREAT song and great reaction. As mentioned this song was written by songwriting great Kris Kristopher son and originally performed by country artist Roger Miller. So, I think this was originally a male perspective and ' Bobby' was probably a nick for Barbara. However, Janis' version became the definitive one. Have seen it covered many times over the years by ladies but not by to many men. I would call it a country/blues/boogie.

Before he was a success, Kris Kristofferson was such a failure that his mother wrote him a letter disowning him ("don't contact us again") for his pursuing music. During that time, except for Bob Dylan he was the greatest songwriter lyricist of his time. This song plus Help Me Make It Throught The Night, Sunday Morning Coming Down, Come Sundown, To Beat the Devil, etc etc.

After Joplin died, Kristofferson had the chance to hear her version of his song. It was painful for him. “Unfortunately, the first time I heard Janis’s recording of ‘Bobby McGee’ was when I had just gone down because she had died,” Kristofferson recalled. “But, I remember the producer, he asked me to come by his office the next day. He had something he wanted to play me. I didn’t even know she cut it. And, uh, he played it for me and I had to leave the room. It was impossibly hard to hear. So much love and emotion going into the song and knowing that she wasn’t there to enjoy that. … “I love it because of the passion and heart and soul that she put into everything she did. But, in that one, I can hear her saying, ‘Wait until this son of a b**** hears this. He’s gonna die.” Written by Keeli Parkey May5, 2021.

Another really good cover of one of Kris Kristofferson's songs is "Sunday Morning Coming Down" by Willie Nelson which i prefer over other versions. Thanks a lot for covering and giving your insight on these classic country songs.

Hey now that you have been introduced to a song that Kris Kristofferson wrote it would be nice if you actually did one of him singing one of his own songs. I would love to see one of him singing with his wife Rita Coolidge at the time, called help me make it through the night.. Plz and not a audio version only, you need to see the chemistry they had with each other and not just the song. They even though they are in front of a crowd sing like no one else is there.. It's so intimate and beautiful and no one else ever has done a reaction to it. Please be the first.

Her "harpoon" was a needle, and she was referring to shooting heroin

I am pretty sure harpoon was referring to a harmonica originally, however, with Janis singing it I certainly can understand your interpretation.
