As his teammate, I don't think anyone can write about what happened better than me. Jann is a great driver, the only thing he often had was his huge ambition and his desire to be faster and better than the others, which is why he has already had a few accidents. We all called him crash kid because no one had as many accidents as him. Because he was Nissan's favorite and they had huge plans for him (they wanted to get him into Formula 1 because it would be great advertising for Nissan) they always forgave him. When the accident happened, he wanted more like the times before and he tried the spot full throttle for the first time. That was a bit too much for the car and the car took off. But the real reason why the car took off in the first place, which shouldn't happen, was that the GT3 cars used to have closed underbody. After this accident they were banned and they were changed on all cars. Now an accident like that is no longer possible
Hi Peter! It's a pleasure to have you here. That was a great comment. I noticed his big ambitions in the movie, and yes, the closed underbody is the main issue, allowing the wind to really give you wings...
So the closed underbody acted as a sail when he came over the crest causing the front end to come off the ground? Just trying to understand the dynamics.
@@NuttyCrack3rhe came over the crest too quickly and his front end lifted enough for the sail-like properties of that underbody to catch air, and then the rest is pretty obvious.
Important to know is that the spectator who died here was along with other few spectators in an area where they were not allowed to be. It was a closed area for spectators but people like in rally races in the past want to be in the hottest spots to get the best view
@@feiwong70they said this in the movie, I'm just repeating it. They didn't die because of you (talking to Jann), they died because racing is dangerous.
@@roguescorner9042that’s what dropped rally’s popularity. Group B was killing off drivers and spectators alike. Fans would watch the helicopter to know when to get out of the street but the Group B cars started out running the helis so people would be in the street while a car was coming in at 150mph+.
They don't call it the green hell or the graveyard for nothing. That track is vicious. The one other time I can remember where this tracked showed up in a movie was in Rush, where yet again we are shown the dangers of the track when they showed Niki Lauda's infamous crash. The Nürburgring-Nordschleife is one hell of a beast, man.
@@roguescorner9042 yeah but in the movie i think it was mechanical failure, not sure about irl, however i wouldn't put it passed the Nurburgring for having a curse against legends and first timers
For everyone here This isn't the first time something like this has happened at this track Another very famous time it happened, was with a much more experienced driver in a Mercedes CLR The reason it happened with the Mercedes was the same reason as worth Jann, a design flaw So it was not a mistake on the driver's part in the slightest, it was the design flaw, along with wind conditions that caused it to turn up enough to flip Even though it was proven as such, people still try to put blame on him because he was a newer driver, which is not fair to him, since there was literally no way for him to have known this would happen, since as you should know, it was not in the first lap ever this happened, so he had completed quite a few laps just fine before the accident Edit: Correction, the time with the Mercedes CLR was actually at Le Mans not Nurburgring
The same accident (same place) happened in the 80s with a formula 2, car went airborne, hurled into the spectators, luckily the driver didn't die and no spectator was killed. I think it was Jochen Mass or some german driver
OMG! This was the Real Deal ... Luckily for Jann , he walked away with some injuries but unfortunately this accident killed a spectator .... 🙏 Thank You So Much for the printed info & date & for sharing! This section of the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit is call Flugplatz , meaning " Airport " ... 🙏 Deepest condolences to the Families & Friends of the Killed Spectator! May the killed Spectator be blessed to a Better World & Realm ... 🕯🌼🌿🌍🕊
@@eiketre4 the spectator in a restricted zone, when the car flipped it killed him, it was him who entered the dangerous zone and oops, he was fucking crushed
Should be noted for those that don’t know: Jann was the first winner of the gaming tournament that could actually make sim racers into real racers. And the r35 was the car he was in from the beginning. The movie Gran Turismo is entirely about him and that game.
This is a pretty common type of incident When downforce is lost at the front you basically have a plane waiting to take off Some famou crash Was the two mercedes back in le man With a porsche gt1 flipping as well
not really that common seeing how it happened only 4 times in some 30-40 years, your explanation is correct though, in Le Mans to prevtnt these crashes there was a mandatory cutout above the wheel to let some pressure out if Im not mistaken
To much speed on a incline with little to no low aurodinamics that aim upwards like vents or channels in the hood of the vehicle causing the hood and under tray to act Like a wing forcing it up
Eso pasó porque tuvo mucho trabajo de potencia pero no le añadieron más aerodinámica al carro es algo que se tiene que tener en equilibrio tanto la potencia como la aerodinámica que le vayas añadiendo
Well yes but except for the crash part secne. In real life, the GTR crashed and killed a spectator. But in the movie, it focues on the driver it's self getting seriously injured after the crash Instead rather of the driver not getting hurt but killed a spectator.
Should change that under tray design maybe make a channel for the air to go up and out while maintaining the vacuum effect It only works if air doesn’t catch the bottom otherwise this will always happen
I watched the movie and ngl good movie and all but it kinda annoyed me as a car guy and a racing fan that all of the on track action at Le Mans was shot at Hungaroring
@@roguescorner9042 Yeah, for example the battle in the final corners shows them fighting through a 90 degree right followed by very long left and then very long right into the finish line. That sequence of corners doesnt exist at Le Mans however it does exist in the third sector of Hungaroring, they just changed the curbs so they match Le Mans with the blue and yellow. Also the entire sequence of the gamers competing to become racing drivers is all Hungaroring as well, most if not all shots are done in the reverse direction to the original layout of the track though.
What’s absolutely crazy about this spot is the same exact thing happens in assetto corsa, especially with the gt3 gtr. You can feel that same force of the car flying up and if your going fast enough you literally do the same thing. This is seriously crazy the level of detail that goes into that game.
It was the underbelly of the car that caused the factor to happen as it made the car basically fly so now them type of underbellys are banned from use if i remember correctly
That area is scary to drive into like you have to let off the gas for a while so you don’t go flying and my god watching this and see the wreck on the movie especially the POV shots it’s shocking and RIP to one spectator who died 😢
They had this in the Gran Turismo movie, actual amateur footage of it, but did not mention the spectator that died during the incident with a single word...
That part of Nürburgring is called 'Flugplatz,' and it is known for being very dangerous. Jann was an amateur at that time, going at about 300 km/h, and it resulted in a bad accident. I am just confused about why his team didn't alert him to the danger.
Maybe because he was young and didn't know your can't go flat out through flugplatz, but also it lifted up like that because there was a but of headwind facing the car so when he didn't lift, the car basically jumped which is normal but also the wind pushed it up
How is it a rookie mistake that his car randomly caught air? Seems like a random shift of wind at the right time and a design flaw in the car. It wasn't as if he was going faster than the other drivers. Why only his car caught wind?
Jann is one of my idols...i hope to one day meet him...i learned how to drive from Gran Turismo back on PS i would spend hourz as a kid just doing things in the game with the cars to see how they would respond and then id spend more hours replicating it to see why it did what it did and how i could control it...ive raced dirt track ive raced illegal street racing both in real life. ive race many a game in the sim world as well...2 Drivers have had my eye one left us a lil over a year ago...RIP K.P.B. 02Jan23....i dream everynight that i can get this opportunity to prove my worth on the track...to become a profesional racecar driver is a dream come true...idc how many wrecks this man has...hes living the best life anyone could get...❤❤❤
70+ people have died at this track who knows how many crashes. Janns story is super inspirational. No one would of blamed him walking away from the sport hellva crash.
If you look at the first clip of him going airborne, I think he was going so fast that he condensated the air around the car like a fighter jet. Looks like two separate clouds formed on either side of the car. Couldn’t have been dust as a car and probably multiple cars just drove on that road.
Sadly Jann killed a spectator in this crash and it wasnt fair for him to be blamed like that. If i remember from the movie that was an air zone where cars lift off and from i read from other comments, it could also be a design flaw. I feel bad for Jann and that this still doesnt weigh down on him.
@@jovanabsorbagency Gets blamed for the accident but they didn't know it was a forbidden spot to sit on because of potential crashes but people be crazy for the best view and that's what cost them and that's honestly their choice not knowing the consequence would be a car flying straight at them. Honestly can't blame him for that since he didn't even know it was possible with the underbody design. All he knows is driving fast and taking the dub but still inexperienced if you think about it.
grand turismo academy is still such a dystopian concept to me. they really just picked kids out of their rooms and threw them in cars?? and they’re all really great at driving?!?! simulators are insane.
Who watched this after seeing the movie?? Gran Turismo 8 needs to have realistic damage physics like the fiberglass and carbon body of the car coming off when you crash or engine blowing up such as in need for speed pro-street which was ahead of its time, btw. 😮😮😮😅😅
This crash resulted in the applying speed limits to the track. Koenigsegg was supposed to post a lap time but the speed limit didn't allow them to make a flying lap. They definitely would have set a lap record
It’s crazy to see the results of wind sneaking into areas where it can cause catastrophic situations. This has happened to the most experienced of race drivers throughout racing history.
Yeah, thats an aero issue, the floor is too flat? Or path from front splitter underneath to diffuser is too closed. In F1, the ground effect and floor design is mega.
It still breaks my heart that after all everything, Jann and Nissan aren’t on the same team anymore. Jann has so much potential and he deserves better. And I hope he gets the chance to show everyone what he can do. Be cause I continue to watch his IG story’s to this day and he’s always ready to get a seat in a Le Mans car again. Nissan needs to make a come back to Le Mans and get Jann to be with them but I know things will not happen anytime soon. Considering how Nissan took a nose dive and hardly races outside of Super GT.
And remember that an experienced CLK/CLR Mercedes driver had the same mistake? You can’t blame him for crashing on the MOST dangerous track in the world
