I have a course with step-by-step instructions on doing free motion quilting and I think I used the 9450 when filming it. You can find out more details at www.chatterboxquilts.com/firststeps
Writing from the future, here. I have the 9450 qcp and really love it. I rented a 9850 with the ASR stitch regulator attachment while at a retreat, and I have to say, I like the 9450 better. Maybe I just needed you to train me on the newer machine? But I’m not going to trade up any time soon.
Many more features on the 9450 than the 8200 so it would be a good step up for sure. You can get more info on the advantages of the 9450 in the Janome 9450 Facebook group - you can search for that group on Facebook.
No, it does not, but it does have several alphabets that you can use to make quilt labels. Search for the Janome MC9450 manual online and you'll be able to get a PDF version of the manual and in the last few pages, it shows all the different stitches and alphabets on the machine.
Thanks Kim! This is very helpful. I am having tons of trouble with the ruler foot. I tried doing some meandering and stippling with it and all went well. Then, I tried using a ruler with it and had huge skipped stitches and could hardly get my quilt to move horizontally or right to left and stitch. I eased up on the ruler and still couldn't get it to move smoothly from side to side with the ruler foot and a straight ruler. I'm frustrated and perplexed. I have rethreaded the machine several times. I have tried 4 different 50 wt threads and 4 different needles. Any suggestions? TIA
First thing is to be sure you are in the proper setting in the Quilting area. You must be in the Rulerwork setting or you will have problems. Check your settings and be sure you are using the correct one and you shouldn't have any problems.
Is this after you are using the thread cutter? I've heard of some people having issues with this and sometimes an adjustment needs to be made to your machine. I would ask your local Janome retailer about it (I"m not a retailer so I don't have as much info as they do). Hope you can get it fixed.
Nice instructions. It would be less annoying if you would turn off your sound so that we don’t have to hear everytime you get a comment in the live chat.
@@Chatterboxquilts Thanks for such a fast reply. It took me a few minutes to figure out what the beep was, but it continued through the entire video, so I guessed it was your chat.
This isn't a comprehensive video on the free motion quilting feet. You can search my channel for videos on the 9400 which has information on this foot.
There can be a lot of reasons for this. The best place to get advice for this type of issue is from your local Janome dealer as it could be an issue with the machine.
