I must be a Luddite. Making evening and wedding gowns, ice skating and ballroom dancing costumes, as well as bespoke all-hand-sewn menswear, I have been relying on my 11 year old Janome 1600 STRAIGHT STITCH, as well as my decade-old Janome 1200D Serger. For buttonholes, that's taken care of by a 34 year old Singer 6268, which makes the best buttonholes of any non-commercial machine. As for any simple embroidery, the Janome Memory Craft 400E is incredible. Forty years working as a bespoke tailor, I can assure everyone that this new offering from Janome is spectacular, but completely unnecessary, as the MSRP of $22,999.00 USD is off putting, as well as the incredibly large footprint and weight (68 pounds/31 kilograms), which will make this enormous machine impractical for the majority of people. In addition, the Janome products which I own, have not once given me any trouble, being incredibly well-designed and built machines of an extraordinary level. Sometimes, simple definitely is best.

Thank you for sharing the new Janome Continental M17. For the most part, my questions related to the sewing side. Also, some of the questions I do raise isn’t talked about or shared on RU-vid for the M17. I think these questions are viable for anyone that may consider spending $20K on a new sewing and embroidery machine. And for any future videos demonstrating the new Janome Continental M17 should include and demonstrate the related questions I am about to address. I’m a Baby Lock Ellisimo Gold 2 proud owner, but it is over 15 years old and ready for me to upgrade to a new sewing and embroidery machine. I was looking at the Epic 2 for my next upgrade until I came across the new Janome Continental M17. I’m under decided purchasing the Epic 2 or the new Janome Continental M17. Any of the top line for the Viking sewing or combo embroidery machines has MySewnet, an online service built in into their machines. Besides the Baby Lock, as a owner of the Epic 980Q (Sewing machine only) MySewnet is a clean visual layout display, easy to use guides with so many option for variations of sewing. With the Epic 2, MySewnet also has the option to modify, create, and many other useful features that can be used with a tablet. And MySewnet has been available for several years now. Therefore, Husqvarna has been updating on a constant basis MySewNet software. With Janome, their sewing and embroidery software is too new (M17 model). How likely is Janome going to provide updates and add new features to their software on the new M17? And will they still continue to update and add new features if the M17 does not do well in sales for those who already invested owning one? Also, Husqvarna Viking sewing and embroidery machines has a piercing pressure point of 150, what is it on the M17? My Epic 980Q can sew through many types of fabrics and thickness, it is almost consider an industrial machine because of the piercing point. No issues sewing with several layers of heavy thick leather or canvas, would you say it is the same for the M17? I’m a designer of homemade purses, handbags, aprons, and etc… and need that type of piercing power to create my homemade items. So, on the M17, one of the auto tension icons is for heavy fabrics and wondering what is the limited weight, if any? What types of heavy fabrics will the M17 handle? How how many layers can the M17 sew through? Last, Janome is known for skipping stitches and very finicky to the types of threads used. How does the M17 handle with all types of threads? Or, is there a specific type of threads this sewing and embroidery must used to avoid breakage and other problems? At Joann’s Sewing Galleria I brought my own threads and tested it on the Epic 2, NO ISSUES. I assumed if I can used a less expensive thread on my Epic 980Q there shouldn’t be a reason the Epic 2 sewing and embroidery machine will act different, and it didn’t. Sorry for the many questions, but this is a huge investment to be considered before making a purchase. I had Janome’s in the passed and dealt with too many skipping stitches issues and the requirements for expensive threads to be used. The only reason I’m looking at this particular Janome model vs the Epic 2, because it is new lineup from all of the other Janome’s with many years that went into development before coming to the consumer market. Accessories comparisons with the Epic 2 & M17, M17 is offering a lot more for the price value when comparing the two brands. This alone is a tremendous savings. No need to buy after market M17 accessories. And as to the embroidery, that large well made hoop is a big plus. Yeah, this may be a hard choice between the two brands, but it’s going to come down to the performance relating to my questions. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you😎

Lou, thank you for your well-thought out questions. Our RU-vid videos (and other social media channels) are meant to introduce our customers to our products - but truly the best place to get the answers to your questions is at your local authorized Janome dealer, especially because your questions are mostly related to machine performance. We highly recommend making an appointment to use the machine, and to bring fabric and thread that you would use in a project and try it out for yourself! The Continental M17 can only be purchased at a dealer, not online, and that dealer is also your contact for any questions or service your machine may need. We're proud of our new machine and its performance and are positive you will be too after trying it out! To find your local dealer, please go to www.janome.com/find-a-dealer/.

@@JanomeJAI Thank you for the quick respond. Although, for many folks finding a dealer is not as easy as you may think. I did click on the link and the nearest dealer is about 40 miles. So, that is 40 miles up and 40 miles back, 80 miles total. Like myself, others may agree based on their locations that many shops are closed and the few Jenome dealers maybe too far. This brings me to my point. Yes, the video is an intro to new products and some form of demonstration, but in todays age the internet is where the young and not so young come to learn, socializes, and play. Would seemed introducing a new product in todays standards should be with a full product demo and review, far more appropriate instead of me traveling 80 miles to find my answers. If their were more details about the M17 that is being presented on this channel may save me and others a lot of time instead making the 80 miles round trip. Seriously, how many RU-vid videos were demenstrated showing a pair of scissors hanging off the magnet? Everyone of them. Please don't misunderstand me, but these small new add-ons are important features but nothing is far more important then what most folks are looking for in a sewing and embroidery machine. Google what folks look for in a sewing and embroidery machine and I will guarantee it's not a pair of scissors hanging off a magnet cover. Again, where not talking about a $500 item, it's a price tag that is equivalent to buying a new car, down payment on a home, or investing into land. This is an expensive equipment for questions to be ignore, detail features not provided, or demonstrating in details. For the same reasons this is an official Jonome Channel to which they need to have a budget to better explained their new products in details. Lastly, I would had expected when contacting Jomone directly on this channel and to received a much detail answers rather then going to a 3rd party, not the case Again, a $20K machine should not have to jump through hoops or beg for answers. Yes, before posting my comments I did research my questions on the Jemone website, but there was no answers. Fact, it doesn't even state the needle pressure point for the M17. And it does not explained the types and layers of fabric the M17 can do. But it does show the new feature for the scissor hanging from the magnet cover. So, as a Jenome representative, I surprised by your reply. But, I take it kindly.I did post the same questions on other RU-vid Content Creators channels and maybe they will have the answers I am looking for. I guess this is a lesson to be learned, never expect answers to the many questions we're looking for -it is what it is. Thank you for your time.

I looked at epic machine but settled on a baby lock destiny. Once Viking brings out a new machine, they wait about 6-8 months and they introduce another one which makes the one you have obsolete. That really turned me off to viking.

@@gardenia77 I have issues with the Accufeed system. I like to use a “walking foot” to attach bindings, which I do for customers. The Accufeed system does not handle the layers of fabrics particularly well and will pop out while stitching. It’s really annoying. It does general stitching well and has many stitch options. The giant throat space and big table are great.

Industy leading... and there's no fully automatic needle threading, no lazar, some interesting updates, but is the magnet really that important and usefull? I wonder how many will lose those stitch cards, and god forbid what they'd cost to replace... A pop-up-lid, pop-up spool holders... this is what justifies $22,999, I don't think so.... but it's a pretty machine....

I’ve got their M7 and it really is a game changer. It can do things for sewing quilts, home decor and garments that no other machine can do. It gets all the foundational stuff right. I’ve got good sewing machines from just about every brand name, and I’ve found while all claim to do the automatic threading, they all fail too frequently so that I’m no longer super impressed by boasts of that feature.
@beachboyde

@@Happybidr Well I have a Husqvarna Viking EPIC 95Q top-of-the-line sewing machine which is the sister to the EPIC 2 sewing and embroidery combination machine. That machine has a fully automatic needle threader you simply put the thread into the guide hit a button and your needle is threaded it has never skipped a beat. I also love the laser as well. I’m not really dog digging on Janome as I have always been impressed by their machines, however at $23,000 I would have expected more in a major update.
