I had a 7700 and I sold it because 1) there were no Janome service people in our mountain area to do tuneups and I felt it was only a matter of time before I needed one, and 2) I only quilt, piece and free motion, never make any clothing or anything else nor use any of the fancy stitches. I always say I have no idea how to sew, I only quilt. I did miss it because of the nice auto tension, but it was such a beast, overkill for what I do as far as features. Went to a smaller Juki HZL G220, feed dog lever broke within a few hours of quilting, throat only 8" and it seems clunky after having Janomes. Found a repair guy put the feed dogs back on the cam did it as a favor because he is not a Juki guy and says he can't get parts for them, but they broke again as soon as I used the lever, cheap plastic. The repair guy had a used 6500 that looked brand new and bought it for a great price, throat is 9" but I still miss the 11" throat of the 7700. Was thinking of getting an 8900, found a good buy on one, but was also looking at an 8200, which does not have that jog dial. Why does the 8200 not have the dial, not that I want it, but it seems different than the series it's in for some reason? I hope that makes sense.. I hope they never get rid of a foot pedal because I would have to have a third hand to stop the machine when both mine are occupied moving the quilt sandwich! Nice demonstration, thank you~Cynthia
Janome’s website says the opening is 11 inches, not 12 inches. Without seeing the machine first-hand, I don’t know who’s right. But I am considering this model for my wife...still researching. Thanks for the demonstration!
I am looking at used machines, I am new to sewing and realize this is overkill for a beginner however the things that frustrate me about the process is that no matter how hard I try the basic machines don’t provide the precision. I would love to learn on a machine that provides less frustration. I have a choice of the 7700 or the 8900, what are the differences?
I just bought this machine and when I press (with the stylus) the adjustment changes or anything below that, nothing happens (the circle rotates and I am able to press the button though) HELP!
This doesn't seem to be on you site anymore. Do the other janomes on the site now also have the built in walking foot? And those don't seem to have as large a throat space either...
No, the companies wanted to make machines that would not last so you have to buy another one. People were fixing their own machines and not buying another one, so built in failure with plastic/nylon gears were born.
Thank you so much for this video. I have just purchased a new 8900 (even though it is discontinued I was able to find a new one). I LOVE the sewing table you are showing in this video. Can you share a link where I can buy that table? Thank you!
