Had my machine for over a year. Learned so much from you! More than from the book. I had my book copied and spiral bound at Office Depot . Makes it easy to lay flat and make notes instead of writing on original.

I go even one step further… I copy my manuals and then have the copy spiral bound and save the original. That way I can scribble and write lots of note in the copy and keep the original manual in pristine condition!

Hi. I love my machine. I use the thread cutter on my desk top and push it with my the side of my hand. It’s a little faster and needs no searching for the button. I also like the clear plastic guide. Beginng students need help sewing straight for a long time, this just offers another option during their training. The machine is a magic monster. The internet is fantastic for seeing all the features on different brand machine, then for learning how to use the one you purchase. It’s also a good sourse for printing off misplaced/lost manuals. Some manufacturers have better demos because of their dealers output. I hope sewing gets a new life, a boost, ‘cause these machines are just great fun and do so much. But the payoff for price savings isn’t there like it use to be. ( i’m 75 and sewn since I was 10). So, sew for the joy of it and the pleasure of gifting a personalized item. Thanks for a well presented demo.

Oh my goodness! What a wonderful demo! I am reluctant to give rave reviews of instructional videos but this one is the best I have ever seen. I bought my Janome 9400 several years ago but have never understood some of the basics of it not to mention more complicated features. Your explanations are clear, concise, and make so much sense. Thank you! I too remember the days of knee pressure stop and go as well as moving the wheel to put the needle up and down. I highly recommend the Horizon Memory Craft 9450QCP. Top things that sold me on this machine. The lighting, the throat plate area to the right of the needle, the easy removal of the sewing plate, the amazing selection of stitches, plus all the accessories that come with it. I can’t begin to tell you the number of machines brands I have looked at and by far the quality of the machine is amazing. I quilt, I garment sew, craft sewing and clothing repairs. I currently have a Juki DX7. I love this sewing machine. But I've been kind of curious about the Janome. One day about six months ago I saw an old Janome for sale on Ebay. It's from the 90's and it was only $130. There was something about the way that Memory Craft 3000 looked. It was very feminine looking and pretty to me. I couldn't stop thinking about the sewing machine and finally broke down and bought it. Once I received it, I tried sewing using all the buttons and everything worked great. It was clear the previous owner took very good care of her. Then I put it on a shelf for months. Then one day I was going to start a quilt and decided I'd put this old Janome to work. Long story short, I LOVE this Janome! More than my Juki DX7! Who would have thought?! I love the way she looks, the way she sounds especially, and the way she sews. I will NEVER get rid of this sewing machine!!! I now have a Juki, a Bernina, and a Janome. The Janome is my favorite and cost me the least amount of money!

I have watched both videos on the MC9450 and the 6700P. Hi, I have had my machine for 2 years now, & I still learnt a bit from your video. But there were a couple of things you got wrong. Firstly in the screen, you kept using the arrows to get back to the Utility screen, when you can just touch the icon next to the B. The icon shows straight & zigzag & it goes straight back to Utility screen 1. Or you can just touch any of the icons in the row to get to the desired area. This is so much quicker than going through the arrows. Second the 3 icons at the top of the screen just above the letter B - the middle one is twin needle. The first one is the presser foot up whenever you stop sewing, like in appliqué going round shapes, or pivoting around corners. The third icon is not for raising & lowering the feed dogs, it is for when you use the walking foot, it engages the the upper & lower feed dogs to work in unison. This is especially important when quilting through 3-4 layers. I hope this helps.

I just bought this machine a couple weeks ago. I'm a quilter and have always used a straight stitch only machine. I have other machines that are "loaded" like this one but don't use them as often. We recently moved cross country from AZ back to our home state of PA so we had a moving company move our things. My machines were well packed and labeled but they piled heavy boxes of books on top of my machines. My favorite straight stitch machine that I had for 12 years was damaged. Long story short...I traded it for this machine and I'm learning how to use the "walking" feet and when to use them. I've been told by other quilters that have this machine that they just leave their walking foot on all the time. I tried that and it felt awkward to try to sew a 1/4". Do you have to change any other settings when you put the walking foot on? What is the narrow walking foot for? The only thing that I think your video should have gone into is more instructions on the screen settings. You forgot to show the light :)
@alwaysinstitches5388
@alwaysinstitches5388 2 года назад
Zippers, cording are a few things people use this foot. Some use it for quilting straight lines on there quilt also. Same machine settings for this foot as the others. Some people like shorter or longer stitch lengths depending on the application!

Hi from France :) Thanks for this video and your great tips ! I have this wonderful machine since one year and I'm very happy with it ! I just want you to pay attention when you show how to wind the bobin, you put the spool of thread in a wrong way. The thread is on the top of the spool on your video and it SHOULD BE under. I don't know if I'm clear as english is not my language but I think it's important to notice it ;) And for the threader (I had issues many times), it's impossible to find the Janome needles in France :(

Thank you for watching and expressing you concerns. All steps shown are according to the manufactures directions! If you were to reverse the spool of thread the thread would be back tracking over the spool of thread in the way you are recommending. Aurifil spools are specifally designed with how the thread is wound on the spool in a criss cross pattern. One end being the largest and the other being the smallest. These are designed to be set into the machine as shown. Every sewer should refer to the individual sewing machine manual for specifics.
@alwaysinstitches5388
@alwaysinstitches5388 3 года назад
Also note that some spools of thread are wound straight on and not in a criss cross thread pattern these are best set on the sewing machine using a vertical spool pin so that the thread spool is vertical and the tread is coming off the spool in a perpendicular manner!

@@alwaysinstitches5388 I'm sorry but, please take a look to the manual of the Janome 9450 QCP, the spool of thread should be put the thread below. When you pull it, it comes under the spool not in the overhead position (pictures show very well the position of the thread). I had a Brother before, and it was the same. Now, I understand that you are using a particular spool of thread and may be you had to put it on a stand, just not to confused people who are watching your video ;)

Is the 9450 as robust as the 6700? Is it as good for bag making as the 6700? I'm considering the 6700 for bag making, but would like a free arm (as I also sew garments), so if the 9450 is great for bag making also, I might be tempted to get the 9450 even if it's more expensive.

6700 is very robust and is professional machine. Capi our shop manager has this machine and has used it to make half a dozen bags and half a dozen quilts. Feel free to speak to someone hear about the specifics if you like. 317-776-4227

How difficult is it to use the alpha numeric function? I have a Memorycraft 8000 and I love the simple to use, and programme, sentences and numbers before sewing. Sadly my machine has developed a terminal fault and needs replacing but I haven't found a machine that does lettering so easily. Are you able to demonstrate this function please?

It looks to me that the machine is being threaded with the thread coming off the top of the spool of thread. The 9450 manual shows threading with the thread coming from under the spool. And for me to use aurifil and threading the 9450 like the manual shows, the smaller end of the spool goes on first pointing to the right and the thread cap goes on the bigger end to hold the spool on. I’m confused by this video! I assume the manual is right!

Blue tip needle or red for sewing, from Maine
@alwaysinstitches5388
@alwaysinstitches5388 3 года назад
Thank you for your question! Blue tip for general sewing. Blue tip is also specially designed for Janome embroidery machines. Use for all embroidery projects and general sewing on most fabrics! Janome Red Tip needles: Designed for denser embroidery. Created in the style as the classic Blue Tip needle, the Janome Red Tip needle provides the extra strength and durability needed for denser embroidery and thicker fabrics. This size 14 needle is equipped with a larger eye, which helps to prevent the thread breakage that can occur when working with tricky threads, such as metallic.

Place your straight stitch needle plate on the machine along with your Janome ball point needle and don't stitch too fast. You can also use the zig zag stitch with the ball point needle but you will change the needle plate to the appropriate plate for zig zag per the machine manual.

I hate my machine I finally got to bring it out to work and the foot control does not work. I am so upset. I worked for a minute and then I used the foot thread cutter foot and then the foot control did not work. I unplugged every thing rethreaded it and tried again. Same thing I sewed for two inches used the foot thread cutter and then the foot control would not work. Obviously this is not working for me, I am frustrated the machine is unreliable and packed it up to return it in the morning, and my husband just spent two days cutting out a new whole and rearranging the electric controls on it so accommodate this machine.
