We break down one of Jansher Khan's tactics against Jahangir Khan in this 1990 Mennen Cup match between the two legends.
We discuss a LOT of valuable information in this video.
By the end of it, you will:
1. Know the importance of patterns.
2. Know how to create deception easily.
3. Know why the ability to hit more than one shot from a part of the court is essential.
4. Understand the effect the above have on your opponent5. Possibly have a new way of looking at the game we love!
Critical Video Times:
1. 0:20 - A bit about how I taught myself how to play.
2. 0:50 - In depth discussion about key squash tactics WITH EXAMPLES.
3. 3:00 - The match.
4. Video clips begin.
5. 5:50 - A VERY common mistake most players make - do you make this mistake?
6. 6:20 - A key analogy.
7. 7:00 - Another very important analogy.
8. 7:55 - Messing with your opponent's mindset, movement, and energy levels.
9. 9:45 - Summary
10. 13:40 - A critical element of deception, and a question for you.

His game relied on his incredibly quick retrieving ability and flexible fast movement around the court. These two boys were the two most complete players the game has seen without a doubt. Thanks Ahad good to see this.

Thanks Steve. Agreed. A massive legacy, and tons to learn from Jansher (and all of the former legends). Hope that you're keeping well, - Ahad

powerful concept of the competency continuum from being unconsciously incompetent to consciously incompetent to consciously competent to unconsciously competent... this takes the virtue or benefits of mindfulness to the next level i totally agree that such a continuum can be applied to all aspects of life be it in sports, work and even relationships very powerful stuff... lots to learn from todays video clip and its not just applicable for squash

Thank you Nicholas. I coach athletes and non athletes through a mindset training program called the Life-Strong program. In it we discuss a lot of elements including the continuum I shared in this video. Thank you for your comment, and congratulations to you for being open and receptive to reflecting upon other areas of life as well leveraging concepts we discuss 🙏🏼 Have a wonderful day! Ahad

Prime Jansher vs Prime Ashour. Prediction pleaase.😃
@ARProformance

Haha, with Jansher's older game style vs Ramy's modern game style, Ramy would win, but if they both came up in the same era, with the same game style...oh my...that's a mouth watering prospect. 10-10 in the 5th. The winner would be the luckier one on the day! 🙃

@@ARProformance LOL. agree. A tennis comparison about the style of play, let me know if you agree. Jahangir is Nadal(toughest to play against never gives up) Jansher is Federer(most elegant squash player ever) and Ashour is Djokovic (arguably the GOAT)

One of your best videos Ahad. The unconscious mind is indeed fascinating. I play many players from the 4.8 to 5.3 rating, (including a couple of guys from your club) and knowing their games, they consistently play the same shot from the same position on court, and use the same patterns as well. So I can predict almost every time where their shot is going. Problem is I might be doing the same thing!!! Great thing to think about. OK time to do some ghosting on this XMAS day. Have a great holiday.

Loved the analysis and the clarity which you have explained these subtle aspects of the game. Iam a squash enthusiast myself and have played at a decent level. found your clip very informative and totally concur with the competency continuum. Heard of it for the first time but its pretty profound and applying it to my game will surely give me a different perspective to work towards. Quite excited about that. Great Work. Thanks!

Ahad, at 8:15, I feel the reason that Jahangir moves to cover the front is due to the deceptive prep from Jansher. The prep feels like a drop shot and you can see the acceleration of the wrist as Jansher completes the deception. What do you think?
@ARProformance
@ARProformance 3 года назад
That definitely plays a part. He does hold a bit and then accelerate through the ball. His prep is quite similar regardless of drop or drive from that part of the court, which adds to the deception element. Jahangir's shot was also slightly loose which forced him to be even more alert to cover all areas of the court. Definitely several elements at play in that clip! Thanks for your comment and for watching.

Harsh but honest input: I just can't stand any of the Khan-idolization. I just can't get into them and I am annoyed by the gushing over them, especially by the SquashTV crew (Simon Parke, he can't comment on a match without rambling on about the Khan's). It just makes the sport look so old and dusty. This takes nothing away from your quality of content. But I just thought I'd share for the sake of honest feedback.

Haha, I hear what you're saying. Speaking from first hand experience practicing with some of the top players in the world (Gaultier for example), it is almost unfathomable how good these players are, especially when you yourself are considered to be quite good. From Simon Parke's perspective he was a top 5 player at his best (if I recall correctly), and he would be in awe when playing Jansher. The speaks volumes about how good Jansher really was. The game was different at the time and not as entertaining to watch as it is now, so I definitely understand your perspective. Personally, I feel that the admiration of some of the older players is a great sign of respect. Just my two cents. I certainly hear your perspective as well :) All the best, - Ahad
