James having to apologize to people for cutting off their programs makes me absolutely sick. You could see in his eyes he was disgusted and exhausted by the toxic comments he received all morning that day. Get a grip people... You are losing contact with reality.
Agreed! This guy was a freaking Unit during the 2011 super outbreak that spawned a giant F5 Tornado. He continued to remain calm and report the weather the whole time.

@@southernsoulfamily9699 yea but what is there to study? You’re never going to be able to accurately pinpoint and predict what a storm is going to do or how long it’s going to stay on the ground. There are just some things that are out of our control and that’s just a few of them.
Getting better technology etc. i imagine people thought there was nothing more to learn or anything in the 2000s too but we have since learned and developed more@@jamelgallagher6602
Lord bless the city of Selma. I'm glad to hear that so far. There were no fatalities. I hope I'm not wrong if anyone has heard different. I feel for them. I know that scary feeling waiting and riding it out in your safe place.
No one died is Selma thank god, however there were 6 confirmed fatalities in neighboring Autauga County unfortunately. I feel like the tornado hit peak strength after it left Selma and went into Autauga County.
I watched this livestream and completely missed Selma being hit. Saw the news conference today and thought I’d look up videos of the tornado. Holy moly that thing looked huge
I was watching him and Ryan Hall y'all while this was going on. The tornado that hit Selma was the same storm that I followed between him and Ryan was the same Strom that dropped the ef3 in Griffin Georgia which is about 15 minutes south o me where I have friends and family. Between spann and Ryan I was able warn my friends and family in Griffin and unfortunately my friend she was caught right in the middle of it while she was at her mom's house. Luckily her mom's house was spared but it was Friday at lunch before her and her daughter were able to get back to her house. Just an unbelievable storm that no one expected to happen
This storm definitely over performed. Meteorologists were definitely surprised...be Interesting to see if they missed something, or did an ingredient come into play that enhanced the storms..
Apparently a small meso low formed causing a slight change in the wind direction to the Southeast which in turn caused backing winds and with the atmosphere as unstable as it was that slight change made the atmosphere much more conducive to stronger tornadoes
I don’t live In Alabama but James is the man I love his knowledge of Alabama geography and he remains calm unlike some meteorologists out there who get all hyped up
First time I’ve seen James span kinda wrong though he said these will be small circulations and not last very long and one super cell produced for a while
At first it was supposed to be a weaker severe threat they were saying brief rotation and models started getting a stronger signal for high severe probabilities and that’s why they upgraded the threat through the day sorry for the long explanation
It's actually not unusual at all. Most of Alabama's tornadoes occur between November and January. Just look back at these past weather coverages from James, and you'll notice many are in the winter time between November and January
Does it bother anyone else that she always draws on the screen? I wonder if it lowkey bothers him. He never had someone do that until Taylor. She just feels the need to circle everything lol
I generally don’t mind it because the circles are usually big enough that they don’t cover much on the radar. I heard somewhere that interacting with the map like that (circling, future path, etc) actually keep viewers a bit more invested in what’s happening. Also, some viewers may not know what to look for/what they’re looking at, and the circles can help that. Best example would be interpreting velocity data for the viewer. Sometimes I struggle to find the center of the circulation, and her circling it has actually helped me many times
The vast majority of commenters here are not residents of Alabama or any of the affected areas featured in this video or others on RU-vid. That should tell you something important but it’ll undoubtedly be waved away by the same people. Hmm; I wonder why….?
Non Dixie Alley residents; instead of gawking at James Spann you should focus your time and energy into forcing the federal government to take climate change seriously because we’re all going to die in a few years at this rate. Global warming is 100% making tornadoes more numerous and more dangerous in the Deep South; this outbreak was preceded by some of the warmest temperatures ever recorded in the Gulf of Mexico. The science might’ve been up in the air for awhile but it’s definitely settled right now.
@@pugachevskobra5636 pretty sure tornadoes aren’t more numerous. Just out of place. The pst few years there’s actually been records for low numbers of tornadoes and tornado related fatalities. It’s always up and down.
@@pugachevskobra5636 after 2011 tornado numbers went down and now it’s back up. Weather isn’t consistent and it never will be. Climate change is a problem but whining about it causing more tornadoes on the internet won’t fix anything. Especially when it doesn’t make that much of a difference. And you better not be one of those tree huggers that wants to turn everything into forests. Because that won’t fix anything either.
If you mean that he's repeating information, it's because people are tuning in at different times. Not everybody is watching TV or the streams at the exact same time, so they might miss information.
