January 2022 Loop Road Big Cypress National Preserve 

Loop road has some very special memories for me. It all started back when I was 9 years old. My Dad, Mom and I used to head out to the loop most weekends. We lived in Hialeah at the time. This was in the late 60's early 70's. I learned to fish, shoot and catch snakes out on the loop. Many of those snakes became my pets. There were times when we would get out there and find the road totally submerged. This didn't matter much to us, we always found a way to get through the water and find a high spot to spend the day. Well fast forward and now I'm 65 years old and live in north Georgia. I just can't stop thinking about making a trip back out to loop road and stopping in to finally meet Lucky Cole, who still lives out there. Lucky knew my father back when he worked for Florida Flood Control. So many memories out there on the loop. Thanks to my Mom and Dad for so many amazing times out there and camping all over south and central Florida. What an amazing childhood I had. It's always the simple things that matter the most. Every time I get to South Florida, I make it a habit of driving the Loop, visiting Everglades City, and Chokoloskee Island...

Head down to the flamingo campgrounds in the everglades, the entrance near homestead, stay the night and you'll see every star in the sky and the milky way Its almost unbelievable.
