This is a great video, I think the initial lack of views was more due to the title, less the thumbnail. I think something that includes "REVIEW" or "HELPING YOU DECIDE", or "WHAT SHOULD YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY ON" would be more appealing to people. I saw this in my sub-box and thought it was just a preview of games I already knew exsisted and had gotten opinions on, therefore wasn't something I needed to watch. But great video, I love the style and can't wait to see more of this concept. I know you're a JRPG channel, but you could do this same style with any random assortment of games you've played recently for extra content.

Personally I'm only interested in Neptunia because Persona doesn't have physical. So many games to pick up next month though. It's actually good that January isn't too busy.

Great video as always. I’ve been a huge fire emblem for years and I’m absolutely in love with Engage easily the best gameplay in the series. I also plan to pick up persona 3 soon I’m currently on the 3rd semester of 5 Royal so once I’m done with that I’ll be diving straight in

The only one I've played is One Piece Odyssey, and I'm a huge OP fan so I'm biased, but I love it. One Piece mixed with turn based JRPG is my dream game. I do wish it had more of a unique story because just going back and re-doing all the scenes we've seen over and over again in every other OP game is pretty tedious, but I still really like exploring and it's really fun using each Strawhat in combat. I've played some of the Shin Megami games but oddly enough never got into Persona, and I always heard that 3 was a good one so I might pick that up for $20 after I finish Odyssey. And I like Fire Emblem, but I much preferred older Fire Emblem. The GBA/SNES ones and Echoes on 3DS were more my speed. The hyper cutesy over the top style isn't really my jam, but I hope those who do like that stuff enjoy it!

A lot of the reviews I've heard so far mentioned how easy the game is, is it really that easy? Cause i always play games on the hardest difficulty no matter what (with some exception ofc), and if its too easy i don't think I'm going to be picking that game up

I haven't really played a fire emblem game in years since the DS era (nor finished it) but I did get engage and OMG I CANT STOP PLAYING IT. Loved it so much bought three houses the next day.

@@TheGamingShelf Alright just finished it so I'll give you my thoughts. 1. Without a doubt gameplay is top notch, the way it builds up at the near the end of a match where more enemies pop up just adds the to the tension and how rings can be used for many different combinations. However the only bad thing I will say is the last boss fight I thought was a little bit on the easy side (compared to chapter 25). 2. Characters are stellar! Story-wise it was a pretty simple "beat a bad guy" story, however that can be a good thing since it keeps the premise simple and easy to understand, but the interaction between characters, the clean renders, and how the character designs are amplified through their animation (which is a really hard thing to do) 3. Oh and speaking of animation, not just character designs, but tempo-wise the battle animations done for the game is crisp, fast-pace, and timing-wise not too long just starts and ends at the right time so that the experience doesn't bore you (oh and camera work for the engage scenes, VERY NICE). But overall I did like the formula of keep the story simple and focus everything on character and gameplay. Something I found similar playing Tales of Arise. Okay kinda too kong but those were my thoughts.

Really like the style of video! For me, Persona 3 is the one I want to play the most. I really only put around 10 hours into the ps2 version, but was completely turned off by not being able to manually control the party. Also, you should definitely try out Dark Deity on Switch! I'm currently playing it and it's like an old school Fire Emblem game

I had the toughest choice last month. Either play Fire Emblem or Persona 3. I have beaten 4 golden and 5 vanilla and Royal edition. I did get both but I did choose FE. No complaints, I’m really digging it

im late but i will be getting Engage when i finish with 3 houses and hopes. Really excited to catch up with it. As for the others im gonna skip neptunia (yeah just no) you already know my thoughts on odyssey and im actually enjoying portable more than i thought i would. (Fes is still the best way to play P3 fight me)

The previous neptunia games were turn based afaik, but they've jumped between so many different genres, that those games are really just a melting pot of different games, all smashed together, they are mostly mid-tier outside of the main line games though.

Wonderfull and great Idea! However the problem os fire emblema is exclusive for Switch and i dont have one, só for me i would Go trough the other , but If you can in Future vídeos make a list like this with games that anyone can acess would be even greater thanks

I completely agree with the review for One Piece Odyssey. I already platinumed it, but the story requires too much understanding/knowledge of One Piece lore for it to be interesting. While there is in game texts to help explain things from the manga, it's A LOT of text to read through and piece together

I agree, Engage is so much fun! Story is definitely forgettable, and music isn't as strong as the most recent entries (Three Houses and Echoes), but the artstyle is a huge improvement over Three Houses, and the gameplay is a blast. I hope you continue these monthly videos! I'm excited to hear your thoughts on Octopath Traveler. Did you not play Forspoken in January though?

My problem with some of the interactions of the characters are a bit tedious. Worst offender is Luffy's grapple point grab. If you have to move past more than one it becomes very annoying that you have to land and then go after the next one. Would have preferred either longer reach to reduce all to just one or more of a spiderman swing.

I've played persona 3 and fire emblem engage. I'd personally recommend persona 3 but i do agree with you on the problems it has especially if you're coming off of 4 or 5. Engage I would recommend if you're a big fan of tactical combat and don't care as much about story or characters. If you're coming from 3 Houses and hoping for more of the same you'll be disappointed. I myself don't like the story, writing or characters that much and have a few other problems but it's still a good game. Just a step back in my opinion. So overall I'd recommend both but persona 3 more and engage with some caveats.

@@gundam0121 In that case I can assure you Fire Emblem is one of kind, there is literally nothing like it. The same as how Final Fantasy Tactics, Ogre Tactics, Triangle Strategy are. Sure they are all TRPG, but they are a totally different beast altogether.

While Fire Emblem Engage soundtrack can't match Three Houses, it ABSOLUTELY has some bangers. Unshaken Royal Confidence isn't just the best track in the game, it's one of the best tracks in the series spanning the last 30 years

Totally gonna buy persona 3 portable even though I already played it on PSP and finished both Male and Female protagonist run. For 20$ it's like they are literally gifting it to people! Already bought FE Engage, but I want to finish Forspoken first. Also I'm a little afraid to play it since Three Houses was totally my favourite FE game and the fact that they went back on the life sim aspect kind of scares me. I hope it will be amazing!

Fire emblem engages story was just bad for a fire emblem game that being said still an amazing game gameplay wise. I agree with your assessment honestly its worth playing just wish the story was better but still FE was still fun.

I played One Piece Odyssey for 8 hours on chapter 2 currently, and yes the story is really slow. Then again I'm OP fans and still remember the original story of it, maybe it's better for those who don't already know the story. It's like okay I already know how this will play out but they added filler to it.

I think the same. Engage is easy the best. P3 is great, but the port is lazy and only whorty if never played it. I was expecting a merge of FES with PSP version since a beat both multiple times. Well, the price is good so a easy second place. I don't really care much about the other 2. I'd rather play older RPGs that I haven't time to play it.

Their combat system are pretty similar to each other, my opinion: One Piece has most score overall, the only thing I don't like is... characters. I've been reading OP manga and watching anime for more than 12 years, so personally I don't feel anything new and even boring, the gameplay itself is really good. Neptunia: the game is just... cute and funny, the one I don't like that is story, it's quite similar to the previous versions, even the characters haven't changed much. The gameplay still needs to be improved many aspects. The game ain't bad, I've played and finished all of their versions. FE:Engage: I like this the most among them, perfect character design, good story, if you can play it on emulator (for better render) you will see it shine even more. Unfortunately, I don't really like Tactics RPG... Persona: this series is really popular, but not my type... it talks too much ---- If you want to focus on Story -> Go for Persona Portable focus on gameplay -> FE:Engage just play for fun and relaxation -> Neptunia SvS new to JRPG? -> Go for One Piece Odyssey

Yeah it's the first version of the modern Persona style and as such it has a lot of weird quirks those other 2 games don't.

I will say that if you’re a big One Piece fan and traditional JRPG fan Odyssey is an easy 9/10 game. It’s amazing to get an actual OP rpg with a solid budget and production values behind it.

Agree with many of your points but 100% disagree with the value of Persona 3. No matter how good the game is the value should be 1 or 2 max because it's not available physically. Paying real money to download a game off the internet is the very definition of getting ripped off.

I tried to like FE Engage, I even got the ltd ed., Mika Pikazo's art direction is incredible.. but story is what it is and no story no party for me. Which applies to every FE but to this one in particular. P3 is my fav persona even tho this remaster is terrible (they are about to release a remake apparently). Neptunia I am loving instead, it's the best Neptunia after V2... writing is spot on and story also not bad - definitely better than FE's. It's no masterpiece of course but a good Nep entry in the series in my op.

One piece odyssey is not what I expected it to be but I'll still beat it. I know the story rather well. Fire emblem engage is good but I felt like 3 houses was better. I just started playing persona 3 a few days ago and like it. I never played 3 or 4 so I bought both on xbox.

When the characters are staring you in the face is just bad game design. Rotate them a little for good immersion. Those games were not impressive.

@@TheGamingShelf I don't know why ether, I just felt kinda slow with no interesting characters to back up it's story and it's gauge atmosphere, also the fact that P4 only focuses on the value of friendship while P3 focuses on awsome stuff like the value of life and death and it's true purpose as well as a much better cast of awesome characters which all equally impact the story emotionally etc

@@TheGamingShelf at least me for me personally, the order you play the persona games in was a big factor in my enjoyment. I bought 3 right when it released on PS2 and it’s one of my favorite RPGs to this day. Also bought 4 on launch day as well. Really enjoyed it and it felt like a more polished version of 3 but I still enjoyed 3 more since it was my first taste of the modern persona formula. Fast forward to 5 which I was excited for and got on launch day as well but it was essentially more of the same and I just couldn’t get into it. I can objectively say that 5 is the most refined and best persona game but I was just burned out on the formula by that time. Granted this was 10 or 11 years after I picked up 3 and I have a lot less free time at this stage of life (wife, kids, career, etc) but it just didn’t hook me. However, if I had started with 5, then went back to 3, I think that by the time I played 4 I may have been burned out on the formula as well. Just a thought

I'm surprised you didn't talk about the horrid localization from Nintendo of America with Fire Emblem Engage and how it basically ruined the entire character relations. And god knows what else because I don't know Japanese and I haven't even opened my Divine Edition copy because I'm upset by this. Very and horribly disappointing. It's all fictional. Why does woke localization have to be a thing now..
