Passengers are expected to remain silent on trains, especially on the Shinkansen but I know that's a real challenge with kids in tow. We had a great time in Hiroshima last week & visited the naval museum in Kure as well.
To a point. Many people including Japanese will carry on quiet conversation. But for the most part people are very quiet. This is why we give our kids iPads with headphones and I did very very little talking to the camera and when i did I whispered or was in the vestibule between cars. Glad you had a nice trip!

One of the biggest reasons why people claims that everything in Japan is expensive is that they don' go local. They stick to their diets and life style. Of course, it would be expensive.
Hello again! I love that your videos are also at the places I'll be going. I was wondering, did you guys schedule the bullet train tickets in advance? I'm a bit nervous regarding travel and knowing when to switch trains/how many tickets I need for switching.
We tried to schedule them about 2 weeks in advance. I think the longest you can pre-book is 4 weeks. We never had a problem getting 5 seats together, and the closest we booked was about 3-4 days. We used an app called "smartEX App." It worked well but you do have to give them a credit card to even create an account. I find that very annoying, but we ended up using the app in the end, so it all worked out. The app is also only suitable for Shinkansen (Bullet Trains). For the regional trains, we just used our Suica card. If you have iOS, go to your wallet, click the +, add a transit card and then find Suica. This is the card you can use on all Metros, buses, trams, and even some regional trains all around the country. You just have to tap your phone. (after you load the card, of course!) Have a blast!! (and sorry it took so long to respond, I needed to sit down at my computer to type all that up lol)
