This script was written a while ago! "Technical issue" was an entire engine nozzel falling off 😅 slim is back online after the sun hit the panels as of jan 29, and jaxa has classed it as an "exceptional success" as it has been beaming back data. We also have pictures of the actual lander on the surface from rover 2!
@@samidalyin their defense his warographics uploads have been taking priority even while he was on holiday and I think Russia’s.. failure on a lunar landing skipped ahead of the queue
Note: Sunset occurred on the 31st, so the mission is almost certainly concluded. The odds of it waking up again would've been exceptionally low even if it hadn't tumbled over.
12:33. The script refers to Spirit and Opportunity rovers while showing an animation of Perseverance; a very different rover that doesn't much care whether it's day or night as it has a nuclear-decay power supply. Lunar nights are long and it's almost certain that SLIM will never wake up afterward. This is a good video, but was already out of date when it uploaded and that's going to happen when the subject matter is an active news story. Channels either need to streamline their process to get the latest data or stick to discussions that aren't as time-sensitive.
Right? I'm surprised he doesn't push them on his other channels. Though, he probably doesn't want a channel to get uninterested subscribers that will likely unsubscribe later.
@jonyemm I'm here right now because he did mention it on his Brain Blaze that came out yesterday. He was saying how disappointed he was that he doesn't have as many subscribers as he had hoped for by now. I watch several of his channels, and this is the first I've heard about it. I'm a space science junkie ✨️ 😉
I swear, every single day I find some amazing new 'Simon project' and duh, of course I subscribe. legit question, Simon, how do you have the time to do all these amazing and interesting projects and still have time for your family?? absolutely insane, good on ya ❤
Some days he records for 8 hours and other days he gets to cut short. How difficult would it really be to sit and read a ready made script hour after hour? My guess is not very. The money is the motivation. A win, win 😃
And we all hopefully learn from our mistakes. In this case I get the feeling that on future landers there will be some solution for the positioning of the solar panels and companies, governments, etc will make sure there's some way to ensure the lander always has some ability at least to recharge its batteries at least enough to repositioned itself to start collecting the sun light it needs to be operational. As you said though just what they achieved is amazing and should help bring bigger and better things in the future.
One of its engines broke. Its nozzle snapped off during the descent. This resulted in a small torque (due to them being angled slightly) which the lander was able to counteract. But that imbalance also resulted in the flip prior to touchdown being a bit overzealous. Instead of landing on its side, it continued to rotate and eventually settled down on its nose. The solar panels which were supposed to be facing upward ended up facing West instead. The good news is that it was able to power back up for a few days prior to the sunset.
Just saying, I'm kinda surprised you (Simon) hadn't found this niche before, as I imagine it's a rather large one. Perhaps I'm overestimating the size of the group purely because I consider myself a part of it, but space nerd stuff I've gotta imagine has a massive pool of interested people
I think you mean Peregrine, Artemis is NASAs human moon program and has yet to attempt a landing on the moon at all. Artemis 1 flew around the moon with no crew and was successful. Artemis 2 will carry crew but won't fly until 2025. and Artemis 3 is the planned landing one.
you're joking-- not another one?? oh for gods sake i can't... honestly i can't do this.there's too much Whistlerverse channels going on at the moment... why did he make another? jk ilu Simon and co! i'll share this channel around w. some friends cuz we LOVE space stuff
I’m sure the technicals aren’t so simple, but feels like a lot of issues would be resolved with sending up a few charging towers and maybe some sort of lander or two to erect/maintain them
Maybe JAXA could get the nannas that knit the woolly jumpers for Suzuki cars (UK Suzuki advert) to knock up a blanket for SLIM to keep it warm during the lunar night ----- lol
gee, would have to burn a tone of fuel to slow yourself down for a landing up there. love this guys vids, always something interesting to watch, very narrow window though :(
🎶Its SLIM shady Slim Shady, yes, its the real Shady All the other SLIM Shadys are just imitating So won’t the real SLIM Shady please stand up! Please stand up! Please stand up!🎶
'Cause I'm Slim Shady, yes, I'm the real Shady All you other Slim Shadys are just imitating So won't the real Slim Shady please stand up Please stand up, please stand up?
Odd to keep calling it a precise landing if the panels were facing the wrong direction. Isn't that like backing you car into a parallel parking space? I would have pushed the word "successful" more so than "precise".
It seems like a lie that Japan is capable of solving such complex mathematical equations, yet they seem to always forget to account for the orientation of the solar panels.
You just mentioned a lunar day and night and I’m wondering how that works? For example, if there’s a quarter moon in D.C. then is there a three quarter moon in Istanbul? I’ve had a few drinks and the cue ball keeps moving around, can you help me understand this?
It's ON THE FUCKING MOON. By definition it's lost forever. Best case scenario you get to use it for a lil bit before it breaks, but you ain't getn that shit back.
NASA has a lot more success than failures, IMO. Look at Voyager 1 and 2! They were expected to last what 10 to 12 years? And Opportunity just 90 Mars days. 15 Earth years later it finally died. And, then there is Hubble! Despite a rather large flaw that went unnoticed requiring a repair mission to give it a pair of contacts. I think the planned mission time was like 10 years? 30 some later it is still extremely useful. Will never be touch by human gloves again because of the Shuttle Program being axed not too long after the Columbia breaking apart during re-entry. R.I.P. to those 7 heroes! If you know you are most likely going to die due to several heat shield chunks being knocked off during launch, there is nothing better than to have spent your last moments in space. A feat that only around 450 people have managed with the help of MILLIONS of people around the World made happen.
The freaking lander has been back online for a while now. Why on earth did you even upload this heavily out of date video without any updates and corrections?
Spending so much money and don't catering for emergency contingencies does not sound right...what a waste...the marginal expenses would be justified given the potential loss...
India did not land on the moon. Look at that footage lol. Edit: I went an looked and there is more footage than just the really fake looking yellow ship thing landing, so maybe I'm wrong, not sure that I am, but I well could be.
If I was a flatearther I'd be saying "all they need to do is walk onto the stage where they have the fake moon and push it over so TS in the correct position". Thankfully I'm not a flatearther and therefore have an IQ that can be measured. 😆
I can never understand your content enough to enjoy it. You just talk too fast for my brain to enjoy it. No matter how much I say not interested, RU-vid continues to bring up your channels. Annoying. Wish you the best, but its format is not for me.
