Indonesia didn't set a tourism tax - only applies to foreign tourists arriving in Bali. Even then most tourists just walk past the payment stand as it's outside the airport and can't be enforced. This idea of fleecing tourists for extra money is absurd. Remember when you had no tourists and everyone cried poor?
I’m going to USJ at the end of April. I really hope that Donkey Kong Country is open at that time. I wish they would give a more accurate date rather than “spring 2024” since we are currently in spring 2024.
1. Tourist/Forienger Only Tax 2. Tourist/Foriegner Only Tax again.. 3.more taxes.. 4.fuck- more taxes 5. Forienger Only Ban(yikes) 6+. more paying more money/taxes idk at this point; watching anime is cheaper at this point
My wife and I came back from our most recent trip to Tokyo and while I didn't notice the price of foods being significantly higher than last year, I did see the price increase with our hotel. The price difference between our most recent trip and our trip from 2023, our hotel cost was $400 more in 2024 than 2023. It was for a total of 16 days, so the $400 difference was a little difficult to see until we compared total pricing. I hope this trend does not continue into 2025 as we want to go back sooner rather than later!!
I am about to travel to Japan and this sounds very offputting, I having travelled extensively for most of my life I would generally advise people looking to travel should avoid countries that exploit tourists.
As a Japanese tourist guide, I really want foreign tourists to have a good time in Japan. So, I created this video. I hope you have a good time in Japan someday!
Me and my fiance will be getting married may 4th then heading over to tokyo the following day! I havent been back to japan since 2019 but im excited to finally return to the land of the rising sun! 🙌 Nihhon here we come! ❤
I hate how some tourists visit and completely disrespect the culture and history like scratching names into monuments. Horrible they give a bad name for people that really respect and love the culture. I hope to one day visit hopefully other people don't mess it up so bad that they ban tourists completely.
Thank you for sharing your opinion. I agree with your opinion. As a Japanese tourist guide, I wish foreign tourists will have a wonderful time in Japan!
I won't be going to Toyosu Fish Market and can't afford such "tourist prices" for meals. I do hope the tourist express buses in Kyoto are successful and that the ban in the privately owned alleys in Gion is enforced and successful. I would be ok paying a national tourism tax to visit as it would be modest for each person.
It's so sad that the japanese gov has to do such things... but totally understandable. On the other hand Japan should not sell itself as a big "theme park country"
>@shawnbell6392 Thank you for sharing your opinion. As a Japanese, I hope that the Japanese economy will improve. And as a Japanese tourist guide, I wish foreign tourists will have a wonderful time in Japan!
>@Philmaster07 Thank you for sharing your opinion. There are pros and cons about those updates, as a Japanese tourist guide, I wish foreign tourists will have a wonderful time in Japan!
How is the tourist price being implemented? Certain stores sell overpriced food which locals avoid or I need to show my passport when entering and I get different pricing for the menu as tourist? I'm not saying measures are not needed but it needs to be well thought. Eating ramen for 3000 yen I can do in any European city and some ramen chains offer really good, near Japan lvl quality... The only difference then is the location and not paying thousands of euro and spending 12 hours on a flight. Don't get me wrong, we ❤ Japan and we plan to visit it next month after many years. I just wanted to make a point from the consumer side too. 😅 Also I still remember the years when it was advertised that JR passes exist to boost tourism etc. I understand however the point of Japanese locals that their trains are occupied too much bu tourists bc of the passes etc. It's a difficult way to find a good balance between nice income from tourism and a crowded country. Hopefully it can be done in satisfying way for everyone. 👍
Honestly, tourist prices are for developing countries. It would be a great shame for Japan to follow this route. Besides, I never use tourist oriented services while in Japan. Use middle class hotels, eat at coupon restaurants and use public transport.
most likely this is the result of japan having tourist bans for 3 years of covid including the 2 years after covid refusing to open up the country because of the covid mass hysteria .
Me and my friends decided not to go to Kyoto when we went to Japan because we thought it would be a waste of time because of the changes they made but yeah Japan was the best place I have been to other than that it was an amazing time I'm going again in two months
You should be fine, October is a awsome time to be in Japan, and for your sake i hope you're in Osaka during Halloween its crazy :) UMIYA Westpoint cafe is my go to place when im in Osaka :)
Even though I'd be a tourist in Japan, I understand the need to keep some sort of balance between locals and tourists. If these taxes or fees actually go to the conservation, improvement, or sustainability of said attraction I'd be OK with a reasonable fee. Hawai'i mainly does it to limit the number of tourists in a certain time span and to help sustain the attraction in small amounts due to Hawai'i not favoring many public-private partnerships. Of course, there are other reasons, but these are just to name a few. Yes, the intent of tourism is to sustain an economy but it shouldn't be at the expense of the local population or the destruction of natural landmarks.

The fourth point results from the third point. It is logical that if most tourists can travel in Japan for up to 40% cheaper, the hotels will partly make up for these savings by increasing room prices. So I've traveled between €6.12 and €8.50 for 1000 yen in the last few years. There's nothing I can do about it, but I want to spend my vacation in Japan 😊
Nice video, keep them coming !!! I do plan on visiting in a year or two. It truly saddens and embarrasses me how foreigners behave in Japan. I lived in multible countries in my life and i always learned the language and customs in advance as much as possible and adabted as quick as possible. Not only is it respectful but also gets yourself a much better experience. At the beginning you are confronted with racism everywhere since it is a lot easier for local to be afraid of you and you also are paying the price for stupid arrogant and entitled tourists. But it ALWAYS paid of to suffer through this phase. I am born in Vienna where we actually share a lot of old fashioned customs that sadly get out of time nowdays. But one has always got to be aware that you WILL be seen and treated as an outsider wherever you go. It is the outsiders job to represent the best one can be no matter how approached. Humility and respect go a long way and entitled pride get you nowhere. Also with the crashing economy in Japan due to corruption and abuse of the workforce it is absolutely understandable that prices have to raise. Japans culture has forced it to become too cheap for its own good.
Hi Toshi, I want to leave you a massive thanks. Me and my mother just came back from Japan and OMG your country is absolutely wonderful, we completely felt in love with your culture, your people, every single thing we saw and lived in Japan were super! Thanks to your videos and advice made much the different and our travel went very smoothly, we definitely are planning a second round! Lots of hugs from London and Madrid
They need to make the fine for encroaching on the Geisha areas $1000 dollars in whatever the currency the tourists home country is. If they refuse, jail them for three months. Which is basically what you could possibly be held for for committing a crime in Japan.
I'm not worried about the TB screening. When I was diagnosed with MS I had to go through screening for TB because those 2 diseases mixing will mess you up bad.
"Travel taxes", Indonesia: "Targeting Pricing", "Travel Taxe" etc. If they don't want tourist to spend, then don't. This doesn't mean Japan will follow this same policy verbatim.🙏🏼
They aren't charging a different price , they've just priced it in such a way that most Japanese wouldn't want to or can't afford to eat there, whereas tourist wouldn't know any better or are happy to spend the money.
Mark, where is live is where you live. Japan or any other country don't have to follow your country. Where you live probably also makes Asian students difficult to get into top colleges based on race.
Hi Toshi, we are planning to visit between January and February next year. What's the ideal attraction for that season around Tokyo last for 3 days? It's our first time visit with my family. Answers greatly appreciated. Thank you.😊
Thank you for sharing your question. I explained it in my previous video. Please watch it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ipp3LqrUH-Q.html I hope you have a wonderful time in Japan!
It s the same in Korea. Many more foreigners coming to Korea and Japan because Euro and US rates are high. And many foreigners don't wanna go to china anymore for obvious reasons. Also SEA tourists are going to Japan , Taiwan and Korea more than before . I thank you for sharing this.
Thank you for sharing you experience in your country. It's very helpful for me to understand about the tourist situation in other countries. I appreciate it!
so all in all the foreigners are the cause, then close the land entirely or only let a specific amount of tourists inside. I think Japan should not sell under its price. it's such a great country and maybe the gov should consider to make everything more exprensive for tourists, so that less tourists will come. What I am wondering: Other countries can do it with tourism and "guide" the swarm of tourists successfully, so it's not overcrowded...
Thank you for sharing your opinion! As you mentioned, there are pros and cons about those updates. As a Japanese, I hope that the Japanese economy will improve. And as a Japanese tourist guide, I wish foreign tourists will have a wonderful time in Japan!
I'd say it's a complicated matter because regulating 13+ million locals + a massive amount of tourists in Tokyo alone is a pretty large feat. Yes, the other cities are smaller, but tourism shouldn't be at the expense of the local population's sanity or the accelerated destruction of natural attractions.
That’s not very fair. I’ve saved for such a long time to go to Japan because the plane ticket ALONE is thousands of dollars, let alone the thousands of dollars it took to book a hotel for a week. Why punish foreigners who haven’t done a thing and just want to appreciate Japan for what it is? That puts a bad taste in my mouth. Just punish/fine the bad foreigners.
Thank you for sharing your opinion. There are pros and cons about this update. However, as a Japanese tourist guide, I wish foreign tourists will have a wonderful time in Japan!
They are closing just the privately owned streets where geiko and maiko live and then work in historic tea houses. I agree with the closing. But most of Gion will still be open.
You won’t need it, it’s only limited to a few countries as outlined in the video, USA is not one of those countries. If you are still concerned you could consult your GP or check the rules closer to your travel time to ensure nothing has changed 😊
good. Then maybe Geisha will stop being harassed, 500 year old Temples won't have teenage initials carved in them, and the bamboo in the Kyoto bamboo forest will stop dying from people scratching their names in them.
@@hyalasilverkin2891 welcome to the World we live in. There are different things they can do in order to not lose money, that the Country needs right now. Also, protect the cultural aspects. Its ok, Japan's politics works like Goldilocks. At first the Authorities don't do enough, then they go completely over the top, finally, and most times, they get it right.
Hi Toshi, great videos. Thank you for so many information. We are coming soon to visit Japan. I would have one question. When Kyoto starts with tourists bus, will Pasmo/Suica be valid at the same time?
Hey Toshi! Sending love from USA! Thank you so much for keeping people interested in visiting Japan updated on the changes and things to know! I can't wait to see you in July! I've already started exchanging my currency to Japanese Yen ;) You and your country / people seem amazing and I can't wait to see the sights and try the foods. Hope you are doing well and have good fortune!
